Holmberg? He’s 25 and has been playing noticeably better lately. How much value do you want for his small cap hit? He’s only going to get better. Do not trade him.
I get what your saying, just unsure how he will adapt to playoff hockey. Dont need another no show when push comes to shove.

Really, your point applies to Domi and Robertson as well. If Domi is near 0.5PPG, he's earned his pay, compared to peers making the same. Robertson is hot and cold.... if he isn't scoring, he isn't particularly useful, but you just hope he can contribute at the right time.

In addition, moving these guys now might not be ideal, when the cost to replace seems to be very high in the market... for what might be marginal upgrades.

If we can find some astute trades, to bring players in that have term, or control, I'm all for it. Remake the team, that's an offseason deal.

The closest recent comparable for a rental star is Giroux. He got a 1st + Tippett (a recent 13 overall pick) + a 3rd

It'll cost us a fair amount. I'm hoping not McMann but Carolina probably asks for him given that they'd want immediate help
Are you aware that McMann is already 28 years old and turning 29 in June by the time the playoffs are wrapping up? He was also an undrafted UFA signing.

Is he suppose to be the Tippett equivalent (top 15 pick overall) in this example?

Lol, if you get a good impact player you definitely trade Holmberg in a package. Come on now. His 0 0 0 stat line last playoffs was truly amazing, he should be untouchable. What an amazing playoff performer he is.

He was a SHL playoff MVP and was arguably the best player for the Marlies in the playoffs a couple years ago. Not a guarantee of playoff success in the NHL obviously, but he does have a history of stepping up when it matters.

It really doesn't matter, unless our top players show up. We can add all the great depth we want, but if Matthews doesn't find enough health to score goals, it won't matter. If the other top players aren't great, it won't matter.

You just cannot replace half of the lineup in a day and half at this point in the season. If you want to remake the roster in the offseason, that's the time to do it.

A couple bad games and people want a player gone. Pretty crazy.
we do need to choose between Woll and Stolarz this summer

One should be gone by the draft.

Stolarz if we are banking this is the norm and he can play 40-45 starts he gets 4 year deal at 7M next summer (like Ulmark but lower AAV/cap % due to less experience at 1A quality level of play)

Im not sure who is better and more reliable option moving forward. Risk both ways.

If you can somehow add rantanen by just a Woll + Minten + 1st deal, that would be quite tempting

Mario Ferraro is being shopped and would be a great piece for added depth on D.

A Luke Kunin and Ferraro package will improve us overall, I think and won't cost a lot.
Im fine with Luke Kunin as a 4th line center and replacing Kampf. But Berube has a hard-on for Kampf and I dont think Kunin as a 3rd C moves the needle at all.

Ferraro would be nice but I just wish he wasn't a lefty

I’m not trying to ship him. Calm down, have a tea.

I’m saying it’s likely Carolina would have interest in Woll.

They probably would, but the Leafs would not.

I don't disagree that this summer would be a good time to pick one goaltender and sell relatively high on the other. Knowing the Leafs, they will keep both and bring Stolarz to UFA.

Before Friday though, it's a lot of risk without really plugging a hole long-term. If we were talking about a younger player locked up or at the very least a legitimate top 2/4 defenseman, then you'd be a lot more willing to do something like that right now. The Panthers didn't give up Knight for a rental.

I was following right up until the 5x5.

Is that really what he'll command?

Cap went up...he's a large right shot defenseman...

Siegenthaler and him combine to have great defensive metrics, similar to McCabe-Tanev...would I like 4.5M? Yes Am I willing to lose him over 500k? No.

For sure, the team goes as matthews marner and goaltending go..Which is scary for us lol

Omg now people want to hold onto a Holmberg? Sure he's been better lately, every dog has his day, especially on a second line, but come on, he's cannon fodder. Sell less low I say! He's a fourth liner, he doesn't PK anymore, he isn't that great defensively, last night another great example and he has no hands. Jarnkrok is taking his spot anyways, let's not fall in love with a guy who's potted a goal off nine people, an empty netter and a quick tip back after Robertson did all the work. This guy is nothing and isn't only going to get better. Whatever to a Holmberg, if someone wants him as a sweetener see ya later all day long. Steeves easily replaces him too if anyone is worried.

he scored 5 goals in 20 games during the Cup run. lit it up big time! (1 goal and 11 assists on the PP which is with Mac) 4 goals and 9 assists in 20 games at even strength (no idea how many were secondary) not like they had to face TB/Boston/Florida etc either. he also averaged less than 1 hit per game in the cup run
the toughest goalie they faced was Soros, and he gave up21 goals in the 4 game sweep, and vs the Blues, Husso finished in net that series (1 goal for Rant), swept the Oilers (40+ year old Smith) scoring 22 goals in 4 games (Rant scored the other 4 of his 5 goals this series), then the Beat TB, zero goals for Rant

color me not impressed, when we bash our guys for not being ppg vs Vasi, Skinner/Ulmark, or Bob when we play some of the best and best defensive teams every year

Leafs were linked to Ferraro last year quite a bit. I would not be surprised if they circle back. I think he fits the cap hit and style they like. The problem is that he's another LHD... but maybe that's good enough.

Hes obviously not untouchable and can be easily replaced. But why the rush to get away from a league minimum RFA who is showing signs of improvement? Even if his potential maxes out as a 30 point 3rd line winger, thats still a useful piece.
