Yeah LA makes the most sense

Friedman did say if he's available and it's 'real' that's where Toronto will spend their best assets. I don't see how we win a bidding war for him and I don't see why Carolina would choose us over sending him West, though

I think it depends on what Dallas or LA would add on top of their best chips like Clarke. They have better quality no doubt but do they want to part with quantity.

I just assume Dallas has some blue chippers because they draft so damn well.

Nashville has 5picks in the first two round this year....honestly brother I can see them trading everyone over 30, and Bunting will be solid next season they should be able to get a 1st round + for him retained next tdl.

But yeah the Predators i think are going full rebuild this offseason, it makes sense to do it now as they can really stockpile there picks for the next 3years.

Josi
Skjei
Saros
O'Reilly
Sissons
Bunting
Stamkos
Forsberg
Marchessault

These guys could bring them back quite the haul, and retaining cap will increase the value back so i can see them moving three of these players this tdl
Dude if you follow their moves since Trotz has become GM they make little sense. I don't think he's rebuilding, I think he is trying and failing miserably to compete. We'll see.

If we got Rantanen (highly doubtful) JT isn’t coming back. You let him walk and trade Domi and hopefully sign Rantanen long term

Fridge is clickbaiting hard, we don't have the cap nor the assets to even be at the table
Carolina actually got Rantanan with retention. So cap wise he could fit with more retention.

Honestly, if there is nothing available with these insane center prices: blow our brains out for Rantanan. I have no problem with it. Marner and Tavares are expiring, our goalies are good. Go for it. :)

The Leafs have always been big Rantanen fans. Even in his draft year, he was flown to Toronto pre draft for interviews.

I'm not surprised they're interested in him and if he's unsigned will be interested in the offseason as well!
If Marner goes elsewhere I guarantee we are in on Rantanen in UFA.

We do have the cap and we do have the assets. Rantanen is a 4.6M player right now after retention. It would be very much close to the all-in move though, while not bolstering any position of need.

I don't understand the thought process of Carolina at all in this.

The price is too high so it won't happen anyways, but this is the biggest problem. It doesn't help at 3C and it doesn't help on D.

Cutting their losses.

It makes a lot of sense. Would allow us to have 3 elite lines up front and possibly enough cap still to add a depth dman.

After the season Leafs have double the chance of keeping an elite winger. Can also let Marner walk and keep Rantanen if we want change

Yeah, if we're going to be paying 1st+ for Scott Laughton, then might as well just add more to get an actual impact player like Rantanen.

Tampa looks to have really screwed up the centre market.

Not sure any line is really elite with Domi as the center. And I would assume they'd put Nylander back to LW or or something to create 2 big lines.

Florida and Tampa blew most of their futures already, we might have 22 mil opening up in the summer to make a move for a prime aged longterm piece.

We can do both. Need to be as compe
ROR had issue with coaching staff, with Berube( a coach he loved) no doubt he will be fine to come back.

I'd agree centre is the biggest need. But skeptical he would want to return. He didn't seem to love the media attention - think a warm weather USA market is more of his focus hence the Nashville signing this off-season

Or you just replace JT and Domi with Rantanen and re-sign Marner with the cap going up. You basically extend your contention window by like 5 years. I know we need a D-man but I would throw Cowan, Minten, Danford and our 1st in 2026 for Rantanen. We could load up 3 lines.

Only issue is would Rantanen re-sign here

Domi is just way better as a playmaking winger. The leafs know that hence why they are going after another center.

But Rantanen is just a different level of a player, so they dont care for positional need if they can get him

Also we 100% have the assets to get Rantanen, it just depends on how much we're willing to overpay for a rental
I honestly don't think Carolina is going to actually get a huge return in the end. They have zero leverage whatsoever IMO. I'm sure the ask is the moon.

Wonder if Kings trade Byfield and Clarke for Rantanen
They shouldn’t. Byfield is finally getting it figured out and Clarke hasn’t been given enough opportunity to do so.
Rantanen is a terrific player but the acquisition cost coupled with his huge contract to retain him makes it a poor plan imo.
