Apparently schenn was notHis GM said he is being treated as if he does have a NTC.
If he wants to leave sounds like GM is open to it.

Gross - been a while since I’ve seen an Eklund referenceHockeybuzz
"Toronto now has to respond….they are looking at Brock Nelson and Scott Laughton….as well as Seattle defenseman Oleksiak…."
I honestly don't think Carolina is going to actually get a huge return in the end. They have zero leverage whatsoever IMO. I'm sure the ask is the moon.
If you're acquiring MR, Knies won't be in your lineup anymore.Knies - Matthews - Marner
Rantanen - Tavares - Nylander
That is nut worthy top 6 if we can make it happen
I swear if we trade good assets for Scott f***ing Laughton I am going to vomit.Hockeybuzz

Or you just replace JT and Domi with Rantanen and re-sign Marner with the cap going up. You basically extend your contention window by like 5 years. I know we need a D-man but I would throw Cowan, Minten, Danford and our 1st in 2026 for Rantanen. We could load up 3 lines.
Only issue is would Rantanen re-sign here
Not a chance in hell.Reading the Freidman article and specifically this line
There are teams willing to step up in exchange for long-term security.
I wonder if the leafs would put Knies on the table for an extended Rantanen. I wouldn't love it, but yeah.
Dont think you realize the Canes dont have much leverage if Rantanen really doesnt want to sign thereIf you're acquiring MR, Knies won't be in your lineup anymore.
My only guess is they have a crazy owner who could decide if the player won't re-sign they should explore the marketWe do have the cap and we do have the assets. Rantanen is a 4.6M player right now after retention. It would be very much close to the all-in move though, while not bolstering any position of need.
I don't understand the thought process of Carolina at all in this.
Not sure any line is really elite with Domi as the center. And I would assume they'd put Nylander back to LW or or something to create 2 big lines.
Ok so you sign Knies in the summer go over the cap a bit, and then trade him for futures. You basically load up 3 lines, all signed long term, all around the same age, you re-coup some assets by trading Knies and you basically re-tooled your team and your cap. Or you sign Knies and let Marner walkNo way. We would commit to the same issue all over we also have Knies who needs a deal. Way too much money at wing
Hypothetically maybe? They operate differently from other teams. Then they keep him right?
I could see Clarke and like Moore from la
you maybe better off signing Rant to play 2c, extending Knies and seeing if Marner is interested in a S&T to get the 8th yearOk so you sign Knies in the summer go over the cap a bit, and then trade him for futures. Rantanen will be a rental and will not cost KniesIf you're acquiring MR, Knies won't be in your lineup anymore.
GO WASH YOUR MOUTH OUT WITH SOAP YOUNG MANIf you're acquiring MR, Knies won't be in your lineup anymore.
If this is your top 6 and you have top 3 goaltending in the league like we do, there is 0 reason we shouldn't be going on a deep runKnies - Matthews - Marner
Rantanen - Tavares - Nylander

The price is too high so it won't happen anyways, but this is the biggest problem. It doesn't help at 3C and it doesn't help on D.
Cutting their losses.
the biggest issue by far is a lack of scoring, it doesn't matter if it's a centre or a wingerThe price is too high so it won't happen anyways, but this is the biggest problem. It doesn't help at 3C and it doesn't help on D.
