There was a discussion this morning on 590 about the potential of Philly making a "hockey trade". If so, who would be the player(s) traded? Any specific player people are interested in (besides the guys who will obviously not get traded like Provorov)?

Following the Tampa Model:

Leafs - Flyers
Scott Laughton @ 50%
For
Pierre Engvall & 2nd/3rd 2022

Leafs - Coyotes
Lawson Crouse
For
2021 1st & Depth F

Crouse - Matthews - Marner
Nylander - Tavares - Simmonds
Mikheyev - Laughton - Hyman
Thornton - Kerfoot - Simmonds

Crouse is worthless

Having a horrible season. We can probably get him for a mid round pick and low end prospect

We pretty much play every other day between now and the end of the season, so a trade could come at anytime.

the reduction of quarantine is real solid for us. Don’t think any other of the North teams are going to make moves (maybe Winnipeg) and the 14 day thing was a cloud over our head, I imagine other teams were trying to use.

7 days, depending on when the trade happens, is still 3-5 games, but far better than the alternative.

Giving up a 1st and a depth forward for a depth forward is quite the move.....

Im not sure whether we are a fit as trade partners really.

The main two roster players that COULD be moved from us are Freddy and Kerfoot.

Freddy is a rental, so I doubt Philly will want him, unless they essentially want to get the spotlight off of Hart for the rest of the year.

Maybe there’s something around Kerfoot for Laughton?

We need some speed, it was painful watching the team skate thru the neutral zone last night.

Simmonds is ok on the top line, hes moving pretty well this year. More speed would help but it's ok at least.

Galchenyuk has looked pretty good but Kerfoot opened up a lot of space on that line with his speed.

3rd line has speed to burn and controls the neutral zone because of it.

4th line.. I dont think Thornton can be an NHL regular anymore, too many plays die on his stick.

Crouse would be a good buy low target for me. Right style type, a risk/reward trade. If he doesn't start producing he's overpaid if he returns to a 25-35 point player he is underpaid.

He is more available now and not worth as much. But, could immediately show to be better than his contract in a new environment. If a trade based around Engvall + a 4th round pick for Crouse was on the table I'd probably pull.

This is absurd SHANNY, Engvall has been very good and Crouse has been really not. Giving up a 1st round pick for a player like Crouse is just really bad asset management. Imagine paying a 1st, 2nd and Engvall to get...Crouse and Laughton? Yikes!

I would guess the Flyers are looking to improve defensively more than adding another forward.

Laughton would be a nice get. Could be a solid top 6 winger on the big lines, or a quality third line winger. Can play centre but isn't great on the draw (similar to Kerfoot).

IMO with Kerfoot now playing with Thornton and Spezza.. It seems like he's starting to fall lower on the depth chart as he's yet to establish himself on a line. His versatility is good but he needs to find a role the Leafs can stick with.

Maybe something around Kerfoot + Dermott for Laughton + Gustafsson?

Gustafsson could be an upgrade one of the PP units and be sheltered defensively with Bogo on the third pairing.

Both are pending UFA's so they don't require expansion draft protection. I'd have to look into that more.

Ghostbear, Provarov, Morin, Myers and Sanheim were all gonna be top pair guys if you listened to Flyers fans on this board a couple years ago.

Significantly over valued their D guys for sure. That being said, I think they've had a bad year, and bad coaching. Myers is an interesting player, that would be a decent addition to our core. Laughton + Myers would be interesting to me.

The more I watch this team play and look at who might be available, I think adding a Laughton / Iafallo, a cheap trigger man to play with Matthews and Marner such as Bobby Ryan, and a depth defenseman like Mike Reilly might be all this team needs. Let Zack Hyman run his own line and play him at center. He's serviceable in the faceoff circle and he can play anywhere on the ice, as he's proven. Excellent 200ft player.

Hear me out...

To Toronto
Alex Iafallo or Scott Laughton (retained)

To LA or Philly
Ronnie Hivonen or Filip Hallander
2nd / 3rd round pick

To Toronto
Mike Reilly

To Ottawa
Travis Dermott

To Toronto
Bobby Ryan

To Detroit
Depth pick or prospect

2021 Playoff Leafs

Ryan / Matthews / Marner
Mikheyev / Tavares / Nylander
Laughton or Iafallo / Hyman / Simmonds
Kerfoot / Engvall / Spezza
Thornton
Galchenyuk

Reilly / Brodie
Muzzin / Holl
Reilly / Bogosian
Liljegren

Campbell
Anderson

I think that puts you in pretty quality contention, without moving any of your top 5 prospects (Sandin, Liljegren, Robertson, Amirov, Niemela) or any 1st round picks.

Thoughts?

I see people targeting some physicality, in particular guys like Crouse, or other names that are basically fourth line type players. While I buy into the team needing to be more physical, our real need is the capability to push through in the top six. It's in those tough checking, defensively strong games, that we need our top six to be able to play through, and score in any way possible. Time and again, it's these two lines that disappear on us, resulting in little offense. A couple of physical guys, playing 8-10 minutes a game, won't make the difference. First and foremost, our top six guys need to play harder, and push through to win. We've seen some of that this year at times, but not enough. If you want a difference maker, it's got to be a guy, who can play top six, and can play when the game gets tight, and physical. They don't need to be Crouse tough, just play hard enough to help score some goals in ugly games. Will and determination, as much as skill. But still skilled enough to play in the top six.

Interesting I'd wager Ferris will be pushing hard for the Leafs (if they're indeed interested in Hall). Getting the media exposure for playing with them would be a huge boost for Hall heading into free agency, especially after such subpar season so far

I feel like we're definitely the best option other than having to quarantine for a week. The problem for the Leafs is finding a third team to probably retain a little more, unless they somehow trade Kerfoot to gain cap space.

In what universe is Crouse worth a first round pick? Nevermind more.
