Did anyone catch what Friedman said at the 1st intermission? I missed it but saw some chatter about it on Twitter? Something about the Leafs looking to re-allocate salary in deadline trades?

Reading between the lines, seems like it would be a deal involving Kerfoot for a retained pending UFA.

Excited to catch this one tonight, hoping the Leafs can finish this out strong. Vancouver tomorrow with travel will be a challenge (even though it's Vancouver) so I'd love for them to bank 2 more points tonight.

Very off-topic, but Wayne Simmonds has more goals this year than Eichel, Hall, and Skinner combined. Blew my mind when I saw it.

I gotta say, that just blew my mind as well.

Well he is not, so if he is looking to get paid, he can look elsewhere.

Fortunately, I don't think Hyman cares about getting paid so he will go in at a number which matches what makes sense for the Leafs and what he is actually worth.

It would be very difficult for the Leafs to pay him what he's worth. I expect he will happily settle for less in exchange for term and an NTC which is fine with me - he's the kind of guy you want on the team forever. Near the end of his career I'm sure he'll happily play here for the minimum salary and I'd love to see him retire a Maple Leaf. At the same time, the salary today can't be insult either, like say he's worth 5M, you really can't expect him to sign for half that.

I'm not too worried myself. The last two off-seasons we had huge cap issues going in and Dubas just killed it. He's paid big bucks to figure it out so I'll happily let him do just that. We'll see.

I could get behind Haula/Jarnkrok, that'd keep the third line speedy and defensive while upgrading it's offensive skills and our depth

I think Granlund might be Dubas' target, but I still wouldn't mind prying Bennett out of Calgary on the cheap. Friedman thinks a trade might happen during the small break after they get back from this road trip.

Is Granlund even a big upgrade on Kerfoot?

Palmieri at least brings some more goal scoring and physicality to the picture if we were to target him.

Palmaieri would be a very nice add. In any trade the question is, who and what goes out. Kerfoot seems to be coming out from under the shadows. Perhaps he is becoming more comfortable. IMO if we can add and keep Kerfoot we are much stronger.

Jankrok would be a nice addition but he’s not a center which is where we’d need to upgrade if we make a change to that third line.

I would like to give Engvall a few more games before I consider moving him off that 3C position. He's put up a positive xGF% in 2 of the last 3 games despite being matched up against McDavid or Drai every night.

Let's see how that 3rd line handles Winnipeg, which has more overall talent on it's top 2 lines.

Yeah I liked Pagnotta's idea of Kerfoot and a pick/prospect for Granlund and Haula @50% retention.

Thornton-Matthews-Marner
Nylander-Tavares-Granlund
Mikheyev-Engvall-Hyman
Haula-Boyd-Spezza

Then when Simmonds comes back we're taking someone good out of the lineup, our depth would be set.

If that fits into the salary cap, definitely not against something like that. If that third line starts to slow down, you can always try Haula as the 3C.

Anyone else feel hesitant to make a trade?

Seems like everything is clicking right at the moment, wouldn't want to add someone new in and mess it all up. And we still need space for our injured guys to come back into the lineup
lol I was juts about to write this exact same post. To me, this team is absolutely rolling. If i were KD, I'd set up a meeting between all the leaders in the room (Matthews, Marner, Mo, JT, Muzz, Hyman, Spezz, and Jumbo) and ask them what their thoughts are. You don't want to do nothing if that is going to leave the impression in the room like the GM doesn't want to go all in, But at the same time if it ain't broke why fix it? The team hasn't played this well in over 30+ years maybe longer. Seems really foolish to add when we do not have the roster spots to accommodate this. And even if the oppourtuniy came about to move a Kerfoot for a better suited winger w/ JT and Willy, what impact would that have on the room? All these things need to be considered. the right move to me, is moving picks and non roster players for added depth. People that can push for minutes and keep competition from going stale. But I would not do anything major at all. The boys are buzzing right now, and have been most of the year

Yes and no. I'm thinking they'll need to free up some cap space and move Kerfoot.

a name i haven't seen but a player i think would be a solid add for the leafs is Brett Howden, he's big and a really solid two way C
Rangers also need D, not sure if something like Dermott for Howden+ or something around Lil for Howden
also really like Lemiuex but that would be a bigger deal

Dont think we need to to after anyone big... Unless it's for more depth. Simmonds still needs some reps back on this team and everyone is playing well.. we also still need to see if Galchenyuk can find his game again and make a difference in a new system, the organization clearly sees there is untapped potential in him and he was a 3rd over all.. so there is skill there.

I hope to get all our guys some looks on the roster and then decide who they want to go after.

Simply because of cap space/cost, I like Haula more than I like Granlund. Way more realistic.

If Haula could return to his Vegas form, he’d look fantastic on the third line with Hyman and Mikheyev.

The best part about acquiring a guy like Haula, even if Nashville retains 50% of his salary, it won’t cost very much to acquire him. We wouldn’t need to subtract anyone from our roster.

When Simmonds returns, he replaces Vesey. If we acquire Haula, he replaces Boyd in the lineup.
