He's still another year out. I think he's out. Richards will be bought out. I wouldn't be surprised if he's on Sather's radar already.

Personally, I hope we trade Girardi for Silfverberg/Etem and Ana's 1st. That solidifies our top 6 wingers.

After that I wouldn't mind trading DZ and Brassard for a top 4 rhd. Keep Miller up as the 3c, let him develop in that role.

Get a top 5 pick and draft DelColle. That leaves about 36 mill in cap space (maybe more) this offseason. Don't spend it like an idiot and there should be a lot of money left over for Stamkos next year.

Stamkos won't ever hit FA. Yzerman's not dumb enough to let that happen.

I still think Dal Colle has a chance to go #1. The only real thing riding against him is age.

Stamkos has 2 years left on his contract and I can't imagine that tampa will let him get to free agency.

I can. His ability to handle, pass and shoot the puck are poor. His skating and balance in general is poor. His vision in the offensive zone is non-existent; no playmaking skills whatsoever. His shot is weak and inconsistent (surprisingly his backhand is his only NHL level shot). His size is wasted except when attempting to block a shot.

He can win faceoffs and block shots; that's it. Everything else he does is AHL caliber at best.

His effort is fine as his lockerroom presence, but he is absolutely "tremendously flawed" as an NHL player. Seems like a nice guy though.

So basically you're slighting a 4th line center for not having top-six skills. Seems a little over the top. As a 4th line role player, he's no worse than average, and probably closer to being above average in that role.

It's like hating on your Ford Focus simply because it's not as luxurious as a 7-Series BMW.

Much in the same way I don't consider Dom Moore fetching 2nd rounders years ago to have a bearing on the here and now.

If teams have made a habit of overpaying in the past, I would personally stake a decent bet on them continuing to do so in the future. I've found people, organizations, and institutions all are more likely to repeat past mistakes than they are to see the light.

Our 4th line has been freaking amazing this year TBH. They start over 50% of their shifts in the defensive zone and their OZ/DZ ratio is below 30% without getting killed. This allows our other lines to get more offensive deployments, no non-4th line forward on the Rangers has an OZ/DZ ratio below 50%.

Only the Hawks' 4th line get tougher zone starts than Boyle and Moore.

Happens every trade deadline where teams overpay at the deadline. Always more buyers than there are sellers which drives up the price. How many trades has there been over the past couple of years at the deadline where you could truly say the team didn't overpay for a player?

I figured Kovalchuk and Hossa were acquired for fair prices, but the middling players tend to get good returns.

And those tend to be the type of players that GM's will fight over at the trade deadline.

If I were Rangers GM, this would be part of my plan: Lose the guys who have been part of the problem and replace them. We all know Richards' contract is an albatross and Brassard has only shown that he can be good enough to tease a team into giving him another shot. Buy-out Richards and trade Brassard and bring in a new second line center - I'd start the search with someone who can win faceoffs.

Fair point. And, hopefully it reduces the chances that the decision to trade or retain Callahan will be based at all on "marketing purposes", to quote Giannone on his podcast when he said marketing purposes factored into HL $59.5 deal.

Richards shouldn't be playing center regardless. He barely has the legs to be a winger.

In that case, I'd assume he wants the right boards as a lefty shot, Nash's place.

I'm just not a huge fan of Nash on the PP. He's not that good there unless he's playing Callahan/Pouliot's role and it seems like he's not really willing to go back there.
