After this week, I think it'll be time to start selling and accruing assets. The Flyers and Caps are leaving us in the dust. I don't see us getting a WC either.

Dan Girardi should be numero uno on our selling list.

I think they should sell, but I don't think either of those teams would leave the Rangers in the dust if they didn't sell off assets.

Don't see us getting a wild card? The Leafs have 5 ROW in the past 30 games. 5. And I really don't think any team competing for that one spot is better than the Rangers. This isn't to say I don't wanna sell because I'd be 100% for it if the right deal came along but I think it's a little silly to say that they're gonna fall out on their own.

I'm sorry, but if you have a team filled out with players with the big reputations like Girardi, J.Moore, Brassard, Callahan, MDZ, Nash, Richards, Lundqvist, McDonagh, Staal, Stepan, Kreider and Zuccarello and all you can do is play .500 hockey at max, something is seriously wrong with the team or just the fact that the players individually are overrated.

The issue is that, you can't keep having them play at the same level, while showing little signs of improvement.

On the other hand is another issue, how many more roster fixups will Sather make? None of his teams will ever gel.

Pretty tough situation going on with the Rangers at the moment.

Unfortunately for us, the Flyers and the Caps will play sub par hockey until the deadline giving Sather hope that we are still in win-now mode.

They have 18 games before the deadline, 4 on the road, 12 at MSG, and 2 at Yankee Stadium, if they are the same mediocre team after basically 14 home games, compared to 4 road games, and he doesn't sell this board may explode.

Kadri has shown more consistency throughout half a season last year, than Brassard has shown in any stretch throughout his entire career. He was terrible last night vs CBJ.

Whiffs or doesn't bury 4 prime shots, then stops skating, then loses his check on a goal.

All in a average night for Derrick Brassard.

Loser. PoS Loser.

I am not sure if Brassard is a proper comparable for Kadri though.

Kadri definitely makes sense on paper. I've watched him 5-6 games lately, while TML has been awful etc Kadri has not been good at all. His skating isn't good. He is creating very little with the puck. Etc. I want to like him, but looking at his last handful of games he has shown nothing.

depending who was coming back I'd pack and drive Nash to Detroit

Regardless of who was coming back I'd pack and drive Nash to Detroit. That contract is classic Rangers bad, and as long as this team tries to be the New York Nashs it's going to suck and be terrible to watch.

Bad timing to start watching him. He's been in a cold spell really the past like 8-10 games, just had 2 assists against the Icelanders so he might be turning it back up. The kid is really a much better player than Brass at this stage, and he's younger so I really don't understand the debate that's going on here. Watching 24/7 I think the leafs (rightfully) think a lot of him though, in terms of whether we could get him. They give him so much special attention, yeah it's usually negative, but if they didn't see something special in him I don't think they bother with all that. But if they do want to move him, that'd be a great pick up for whoever goes out and gets him.

Comparing Kadri to Brassard is asinine. They're both centers and somewhat inconsistent (one way more than the other so far) but that's about it.

I'd trade Brassard for him without even thinking about it. I'd trade quite a few more players for him also. I hate him as a player but why I hate him is why he'd do good for this team.

For Toronto to bite it would at the very least have to be Kadri, Gardiner for Brassard, MDZ, 2nd.

Ok so let's do Kadri/Gardner/4th for MDZ/Bras/2nd.

It's worth getting a lesser pick because other picks can be accumulated if guys like Boyle/Stralman/D. Moore and the big two of Girardi and Callahan are on the table. Having Kadri and Gardner as RFAs under control for the next 4-5 years is worth it.

As for the Sharks fan who mentioned Kennedy before? If he's coming back with Nieto and a high pick, sure. The goal should be to acquire a player like Nieto because Demers to me is a little redundant. I also wouldn't mind taking Havlat back and before I get tomatoes chucked my way, here's the logic; if potentially all of Cally/G/Stralman are gone for next year (along with a Richards buyout) and replaced with guys with ELCs, and if it means getting back prospects who have ELCs and a high pick, you do it as a favor to SJ to get them to make a deal and roll the dice with Havlat, hope he can stay healthy, and ship him out next deadline for picks. $5 million invested in one year for getting years and years of ELCs and picks is a no brainer to me.

Ottawa has won 4 straight. They will be in the WC hunt. That pick of theirs belonging to Anaheim isn't going to be as high as it was looking a few weeks ago. Anderson has won five straight. When that guy is healthy and playing well,Ottawa is a good team. They were a playoff team last season. The Rangers have 1 regulation win at home in their last 11 home games. They blew a great opportunity in December to rack up the points at home. On Monday night, they got off on the wrong foot on another long stretch of home games. The Rangers were lucky to get a point. The Flyers had a 6 game road trip after Christmas. 5-1. Colorado was their only loss. Skinner has taken off in Carolina. The Rangers top guys are hit or miss. Nash perked up his play playing in his hometown Toronto and against his former team. Richards has 1 goal in 11 or 12 games. Stepan hasn't scored in how many games. Callahan is just returning from the knee injury. Zuccarello and Kreider shouldn't be your best players. Lundqvist seems to give up 1 bad per game which leaves the Rangers with no margin of error. Even when Lundqvist is playing at the top of his game, the team is a borderline playoff team. They receive great goaltending but are battling for the last two playoff spots. The team has scored the 2nd fewest even strength goals in the NHL. Their PP is much improved. If that PP goes cold, the Rangers will struggle to score goals. Its the same problem every year. We need to score more goals. Sather brings in Nash but they don't have space or a spot on the right side to keep Gaborik so it becomes a wash. The Rangers need more transition from their D.

Rinse. Spit. Repeat.

This poor season so far should be looked at as an opportunity. They have a ton of UFA's who are most likely, for one reason or another, not in their long term plans who could return some valuable pieces. Make the difficult decision of understanding this is the year to get a high pick to set this franchise up moving forward. Recoup some assets, retool in the offseason with some more young players, trades and a couple of UFA's.

Callahan
Girardi
Boyle
Stralman
Pouliot
Moore

See what they will return, ride this one cold year Hank is having to bring a legit young offensive threat.

There will be no selling. There will be asinine extensions to Callahan and Girardi as well as this year's version of the Clowe trade where the NYR first rounder is traded for insert washed up rental here.

Everyone that isn't signed long term is history and Cigarface will throw Jimmy's 'Dolan Dollars' around freely, saddling team with more castoffs and retreads.

Anyone of note freeing up from KHL contracts soon?

Hooray.

Yeah, I figure that he isn't exactly hot right now. But I am not really looking at the best plays when I follow a player, more on what he got on a shift by shift basis.

To start with, Kadri just don't seem to be in good shape. He seems tired at the wrong end of shifts etc. He skating is quite choppy. He is not able to buy himself time with the puck. Never making those cross zone passes etc. He is also hardly impressive defensively and plays at a level where some coaches probably won't tolerate and move him to the wing for it.

I like him because of his attitude and he definitely always get into the right areas on the ice. It sounds trivial, but can't be overrated.

But to be able to match up against the top 2 line centers in the East, you must have more than that. And even if his game is really off right now, he is showing no glimpse of having that center vision that a player like him must have.

I am not the biggest Brassard fan, but I don't think its a given that you deal Brass straight up for Kadri...

I think RB makes a good point about the situation in the East.

If your are fighting with 7-8 teams for 2-3 spots, be prepared for 2-3 of those teams to put up a heck of a record the rest of the way. That has more or less always been the case the last years. You get to a point where some teams just stop loosing pts. Constant 3 pts games, and by never mailing it in, they beat teams late in the year they shouldn't beat.

What's funny is that before last year, Sather was great at not giving away valuable assets for what he wanted at the deadline.

Prucha, Dawes and Kalinin for Morris.

Rozsival for Wolski

Minor deals for some added depth.

Clowe was the first real rental he spent quality assets on.

Think of the assets that could be brought in by a re-tooling (not a rebuild).

Callahan (At least one A level prospect and a 1st)
Girardi (Same as Callahan)
MDZ (Good prospect or young NHL player like Kadri)
Boyle (At least a second round pick)
Pouliet (Same as Boyle, if he keeps scoring even more)
Stralman (Even though I'd prefer to re-sign him, he could get getva first if not more).

If they move Stralman and Girardi, they can't move MDZ at the deadline unless they bring in at least 1 legit NHL dman.

Dominic Moore should be a 3rd or so as well.
