I'd take Luongo over Miller all day. I just make fun of his equipment, but he's a way better goaltender as of now, and a much classier guy.

I don't want him in our conference though.

Some people just have no sense. Or can't be bothered to look up a depth chart.

Well the Miller thing wasn't started by illegitimate sources (like the Heatley rumor was for example) Nick Kyperos of Sportsnet first reported that "Ryan Miller's days in Buffalo are numbered") and it was also reported on NBC Sports' official website:

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/12/report-ryan-millers-days-could-be-numbered-in-buffalo/

Not sure what else you'd need to call this a legitimate rumor haha. I don't know if I would take Miller per-se but come around 2014 we will need a stopgap goalie. Miller along with Kirpusoff (will be 37), Hiller, Halak, Dubnyk, Crawford, Vokoun, Elliot, Gustavsson, Giguere, Biron, Clemmensen, Scrivens, Peters, Zatkoff...those will all be options coming up. Obviously Dubnyk and Crawford are completely unrealistic (plus I don't even think I'd want a bonified starter as that would sacrifice Wedgewood's development.)

However someone like a Kipper, Vokoun, Elliot all seem realistic & reliable stop-gap options if Brodeur decides to not come back.

If Jake Allen out-performs Halak and if Hiller slides down the depth chart I wouldn't count those two either. (Again though, getting one of those two would would sacrifice the future of Wedge as our potential number one.) As far as "life after Marty" goes I don't think we'll be that bad if we get a quality stop-gap while Wedgewood/Kinky continue to develop.

Clemmensen? **** NO! Same with Jiggy, and CHOKOUN! And the monster 5 hole Gustavsson too. Vokoun is closer to being done than Marty, and Moose if you've seen him this year. Clemmensen is a backup. I would like Kiprusoff, but he'll be old and pretty beaten into the ground by then.

Halak wouldn't be bad if his value went down.

Kypreos also once said that Clarkson asked Lou for a trade from the Devils.

I'm not saying that "Miller will be traded" is implausible. That end of it is perfectly believable. But "Miller is coming to NJ" is quite unbelievable. There's just no reason to spring for him both in terms of traded assets and cap space just to have him sit behind Marty for a year.

Maybe if Moose retires this summer, and we need another NHL goalie because Lou doesn't want to bring up any of the kids, then we'll make a move. But not before.

Isn't Miller's cap hit like $5+ million? That would be like almost $10 million in goalies.

And $1.5 still for Moose's dead cap hit if he did retire.

2 Trades that we should make if possible IMHO

Please post feedback for these two proposed trades. Thanks!

1. Josefson, Tedenby, and McPherson to Calgary for
Mike Cammalleri and Johnny Gaudreau.

2. Tallinder and Burlon for Mark Streit.

If I replace Volchenkov for McPherson, do we have a deal?

If I add a high draft pick along with Tallinder and Burlon, do we get Streit?

Thanks! :)

Still have 8 defensemen in the Tallinder/Burlong for Streit deal. Calgary doesn't want a currently injured player who is an unproven prospect, and another unproven prospect, and a hit or miss prospect defensemen. Not for Cammalleri anyway.

Streit is basically Zids, don't need both. We won't get a real upgrade on defence unless someone like Henrique is getting traded. Don't get fooled by the slump, it's a solid, consistent and deep defensive corps we've got there.

For the other trade, I don't know whether Calamari (sp) might fit Pistol Pete's system....

How about Josefson, Urbom or Gelinas and a #2 pick (2015) to Calgary for Cammalleri and Gaudreau?

Volchenkov and Tallinder for Streit (UFA)???

Possible Playoff Lineup:

LW--C--RW
Kovalchuk--Cammalleri--Zubrus
Elias--Henrique--Clarkson
Carter--Zajac--Bernier
Ponikarovsky--Loktionov--Gionta

RD--LD
Zidlicky--Salvador
Larsson--Greene
Fayne--Streit??? (Streit gives us more offense from the backline)

Marty
Moose

Why would the Islanders want Volchenkov AND Tallinder? Especially at their ages and salaries?

I don't want to trade Jon Merrill, Reece Scarlett, or Damon Severson unless we get a Norris Trophy candidate in return. That is how highly I think of these three young defensemen.

Do you agree?

Streit is so overrated

I think so too. However it's fun to hear Howie Rose have an orgasm every time he makes a big play. Much like he always did every time Freddy Meyer made a big play too.

Exactly!!! The ghost of Tim Thomas can only get you so far

Does anyone realistically think Iginola would waive is NMC and come to Jersey or anywhere out East for that matter?
Thomas is done next year too! Haha could have traded for Gomer before he was bought out, and had his hefty $7.5 million on the books for next year!

I can see Iginla waiving, and coming to a few teams. I can see him being moved out east before west too for some reason. Not sure about the Devils, not sure we have what it takes to get him without giving up Merrill or a first. I can also see him re signing with Calgary again in the off season too. I think he'll end up in Boston, or Pittsburgh. Just a feeling I'm having.
