A Carolina beat writer suggested that they trade Jokinen here for Staal in the summer of 2010 (hahahahaha).
Earlier this year, a poster suggested we trade for Jokinen to replace Stepan as 2nd line center (hahahahaha).
I know of know legitimate reports linking the Rangers to Jussi Jokinen.
Skinner goes from $900,000 in salary to $4.35M. $6M for Jordan Staal from $4.5M. $5M for Ruutu. $1.5M for Harrison. $4.5M for Gleason from $3.5M. $7M for Semin which wasn't on the books until yesterday. They have so many players seeing their salaries increase next season. They are not a big market team. $975K increase for Eric Staal.
I don't think the league worst teams would want to take him anyway but you are correct. Hard to imagine he'd slip to us.

Doesn't hurt to put in a claim. If we lose out to worse teams, so be it. We have an extra roster spot and Jokinen can definitely contribute.

His past few successful years make me pause and think, but really looking at this, why would he be on waivers if he could contribute? Carolina is in 9th place right now, they need all the help they can get. It's fishy, to me, and not a good sign regarding his play. Even if it's just to clear salary.
I wouldn't be surprised if he cleared. Could see someone like Florida or the Isles picking him up - or I could see the Devils taking a chance on him, they need the forward depth, especially with Kovalchuk out for the next few weeks.

This new CBA and dropping cap have made for some very interesting business dealings.
The place to look to improve the team will be in the question marks in the offseason, the guys whose contracts will be small bc teams have bid up the available stars and have little room. Look at the only year the cap actually stayed put in the previous CBA. There were a bunch of guys signed to 1, 2 year deals at a million or two per season who were borderline top 6 players. Tanguay, Prospal, ect.

Get rid of Boyle and Pyatt. Bring in Zuccarello and Jokinen and we still have two contracts to spare and we've upgraded our team.

i bet its one of Bourque Thomas,.. hopefully its not McIlrath....
maybe Yogan can be our future Clowe type player... i hope he gets a shot in the future.. playing well in CT...

Acquiring Jokinen would only confirm that management is looking for a complete makeover with less than 20 games to go.
How are they ever supposed to figure out what team they are with so many ridiculous parts moving in and out of the bottom 6?

No way Sather adds 3M for next season with Hagelin, Stepan, McDonagh needing raises. We just added a Jokinen type in Zuccarello anyway.

The bottom 6 had 30 games to figure it out and couldn't. Should we wait another 20 for them to try?
Newbury and Asham who haven't played at all this year, looked better than any bottom 6 line this whole season.
same here......he has some grit to his game.....can play wing and center and has some potential
