Got offered this deal in a sim. Would you do it as a Ranger GM? - forget washington for a sec

To NYR - Alex Ovechkin
To Caps - JT Miller, Chris Kreider, Brad Richards, Michael Del Zotto & 2014 1st Round Pick.

Lol no. Ovechkin is no longer an elite player imo

how about this trade??

Brian Boyle, Michael St.Croix and Ryan Bourque to Wild
Cal Clutterbuck and Johan Larsson to Rangers

Wild get much needed size and a solid center prospect.

Rangers get someone who can forcheck and who goes to the net and they get a swedish prospect.

Bingo.

Last year the team was a family. Sather went hardball with Prust and he bolted. I'd be willing to bet if Sather was a little softer with his negotiating techniques and actually treated his players like he cared, Prust would still be here...and for less than the $2.5 mil he's currently getting in Montreal. Prust left because Montreal told him he'd be a big part of the team and made him feel wanted. People underestimate just how much that means to players - especially 3rd and 4th line guys.

I agree w/you about considering a softer touch some times. However, in all fairness to Slats, I'm not sure we could have sweetened that deal enough to bridge the gap. The Canadians went more $$ for less years, and NY could not come close.

I wouldn't care one way or the other, but our bottom 6 is terrible right now. I wouldn't be completely shocked if we did try to claim him.

i dont see where Dvorak fits on the Ducks. i see this as a favor move to another general manager...

We just waived a non-physical, 37 year old 4th line center.

What makes one think we're going to pick up a non physical, 36 year old 4th line winger?

Then again, knowing this organization...

he adds much needed speed. this team isnt that fast.... and he has scored before.. he is better than playing Newbury every night :shakehead

A team with Gaborik, Hagelin, Kreider and Nash doesn't have much speed?

You really beieve that Dvorak would flourish offensively with Powe and Asham? And let's be honest Newbury is only here because they need a body. No other reason. And he's not going to be once Miller is back.

But the better question is: if Dvorak is the player you describe, why is it you never mentioned him until Anaheim put a claim in for him. He's been available.....

it is not appropriate to explore.. thats been our MO of the rangers for the longest time.. trade talented youth for proven players and have it back fire... gabs+futures for kesler fine but NO WAY do i trade youth and proven players.. you have to build a team not trade every good young assets for an often injured talent.. we made our big trade by getting nash.. now start to rebuild bottom 6 and light a fire under the ass of richards and gabs..

Thank you. Here's what I see are full sides of your picture.

Kesler MAYBE can be had, at all.
Kesler may EVEN be had at reduced level due to damage from injury history.

There IS a chance he could be Drury 2.0, although I don't think, IMO, that that would be immediate. As best as I can tell, the recent issues are not overriding critical, like severe concussion. The immediate thing was the broken foot.

We have fortunate timing in that Kesler may be limited/no use to 'nucks this year.

We have unfortunate situation that even if Kesler does not play, or if at all is compromised, the likely area they will focus on is C. Regardless of Kesler being moved or not moved in any other deal with any other club, their primary focus will be IMO, will be another C.

The dynamic is not yet set in stone.

Kesler would be likely improvement/replacement for Stepan --- yes, there is some gamble, but unless/until Kesler gets major concussion, I think the risk is acceptable.

Of course, the upgrade to Kesler is not worth Gaborik, as well as the utility of Biron to facilitate moving Luongo now.

However, I tagged a HUGE + Van. would have to send back.
In addition to first, we'd want prospects. Do we think they have ANY prospects, prefer. a C, who could make this worthwhile moving forward?

In other words, we take the hit this year and move for next year we not only have Kesler to replace Stepan --- THAT'S ONE FOR ONE, so short term we are ok there --- but we also have ______ which improves us, hopefully at C as well

If we say to Van. we bail you out with Stepan today, what (2 Cs) will you give us for tomorrow (one of which is Kesler)?

No, Kesler will not be traded. 0 chance of that happening anytime soon. And if he were, the trade would require a young center going back, and the Rangers aren't moving Stepan for Kesler.

Why are we still on this?

Well that's exactly my point. I'm just wondering not advocating. Knowing this organization I wouldn't be surprised.

i thought he retired :help: his speed will help but dont really care if the claim him or not... rangers need more younger bodies. cant wait till Fasth and McIlrath get here.
