I think that's asking for a lot for a 2/3C

I dont think Morin has much value.. been up and down the past few years. is not a regular yet at the age of 22 as of now and is a NY kid from Aubrin

played on the same team as Ryan Bourque and Danny Kristo for the Under 18 team in 2007-2008 season

yeah, I'd like to get Morin on our roster, but in a lot of ways he's a cheaper, less experienced version of Brassard; so if coach Q doesn't want Morin in his line up, why would he want Brass who has the same shortcomings?

If the Rangers could pull off your trade I'd be a very happy man

i did not realize that Brassard is gritty and physical LW like Morin, who has had 11 fights in the AHL compared to Brassard who has 1.

Morin is more physical and is a winger... Brassard is soft, too inconsistent center. two different type of players

I don't think they are sour on him, just no spot for him right now. He looked pretty good in his short stint earlier in the season. They have no need to rush their prospects.

It is intriguing to think of what a team like Chicago would give for Brassard who is just entering his prime. Maybe in the off-season if AV feels he wants to go in a different direction...

lol, sorry I had morin and pirri mixed up in my head. It's early over here...

I think agents are very instrumental all the time. For instance, I believe Paul Theofanous completely brokered the Tyutin deal and initiated the Korpikoski move. In world soccer the agent is a tremendous driver of deals and I believe it's true here too.

Of course.

They are also like behind 90% of all rumors that get out.

I like Poo. I'm with pld and Raspewtin.

2 @ 1.5 is a nice deal for him.

I'll join the club.

1. I think he can be had cheap. I don't think it's an option for him to shop around for a 6th club or whatever. He'll take a decent offer from us to establish himself.

2. He only has decent size, but he is better and much smarter with the puck than many more highly ranked alternatives. Like, you know, it feels like we could "upgrade" him at a high cost and easily end up with a more square option that on a shift by shif basis might not be much of an upgrade...

Walsh is the joke. He spent the lockout complaining about the players taking 50%. Somehow they will survive on 50%. November 2013 was 2 months ago. That story was printed after the TV deal. Why do you bring up the FED printing money when discussing the NHL? A few days ago,I mentioned what was reported about cap estimate being lowered by the falling Canadian dollar and you bring up the Fed printing money. I would think that the 2 NHL cap guys who spoke to Elliotte Freidman about the falling dollar would have a good grasp of the issue.

Sorry for my rants, just that the loonie is falling because Canada is bringing down the interest rate. But the Fed is also printing money. What is the point with that? Yes, the Canadian economy isn't in much worse shape than the US economy. But the loonie is taking a bigger bit because it's smaller. What is the relevance with this? Don't expect it to go on. Expect it to even out.

hes pretty physical. hell mix it up.

and yes, you're right, hes got no spot on a loaded hawks team. they are stacked at top 6 winger. its purely a numbers game.

he skates pretty well, plays with an edge and can really shoot it. his snap, slap and wrister is top notch. he can shoot it from anywhere and pick corners. he can snipe.

a kid like jet morin would look good on this team. he brings a shooters mentality.

steps, kreider, miller and morin sounds like a team usa reunion.

and dont count out Hartman. if Sather can pull a deal for Morin and Hartman, depending on the offer, i would not mind it.. Rangers need that shoot first mentality. it would be nice to have a skilled forward with grit skill and some size..

I think Callahan has roughly 7 days to accept his contract extension offer... or to at least make massive massive progress.

Girardi is reportedly very close to signing - i.e within the next week.

There is no reason that I can see Sather holding Callahan, in a contract extension stalemate, during the Olympics. If Callahan were to get hurt during the Olympics, he'd be untradeable come the actual deadline. Then we'd be forced to pay him whatever money he wants or we'd hae to let him go.

It's why I think Girardi is so close to signing now. Sather probably gave them ultimatums. Sign what we're willing, or something very close, or we'll explore a trade.

As for the other UFAs, I think you can see what Sather thinks of the team. No one else is being rumored to be shopped, no one else is rumored to be in extension talks (besides Zucc's demands found on a Norwegian outlet). They'll either be extended, or walk. Trade doesn't seem like an option for any of them.

Sorry everyone who wants Boyle, Moore, Pouloit, etc... moved for picks. Doesn't seem feasible at this juncture.

As for Callahan/Girardi - I think they have take it or leave it contracts on the table with slight opportunities to tweak them. 5.2 for 6 years could go up to 5.3 for 6 years, but I don't think much more changing than 100k increase in either direction per year.

If they don't take them, I think they're gone in the next week. Exciting to see what we could get for them. A little nervous that we'll get a lackluster return. Both of these players, if traded, should warrant a kings ransom. They're worth A LOT to our team. Doesn't matter if they're UFAs.

If we get a scoring left winger, Pouliot should only be back as an extra forward. He doesn't belong in the bottom 6, and next year, when Brassard and Zuccarello become a 2nd line, they'll want a more consistent LWer than Pouliot.

I think we all agree Hagelin is best as a 3rd liner, and no way Pouliot is a 4th line type guy.

1. How do you know that the Rangers have an offer out to him, and what makes you say that he's git 7 days to accept it? That seems like an awful lot of speculation on your part. For all we know Callahan said that he wants something ridiculous or he'll test free agency, and the Rangers already moved on from that.

2. Gone by next week? Anything is possible, but these things often last until the deadline. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case here. One one hand you risk injury, but on the other you may not get the same value.

3. It absolutely matter that they are UFA's. A player like Callahan or Girardi locked up for 3 more years at a reasonable number is def more valuable than a guy whose about to test free agency. That doesn't mean we can get a valuable package for them, but it absolutely matters. Also, it doesn't matter how valuable he is to this team, it matters how valuable he is to the receiving team.

I think one thing that we are overlooking are the amount of quality players who could be available. Teams looking at Callahan could also be looking at Ott, Moulson, Vanek, Cammalleri, etc.. That could certainly drive his value down. I still think a 1st/solid prospect is the most likely scenario.

I'd be happy to resign Pouliot for 2 years @ 1.5…

I liked the signing from the get go… then seriously began second guessing myself… I think he's a useful player.

I really think Sather is going to make a run at Vanek, especially if Callahan is traded or let go. Hagelin is best suited for a checking role. He's great along the boards and an awesome forechecker, but I still maintain he's got stone hands, not good enough to be consistently in a top 6 role.

A couple other thoughts skimming through the last few pages...

-Stralman can't hold Girardi's jock, and I like Stralman. Stralman is passable on the top 4 if he's paired with Staal. If he plays with Moore or McDonagh even, he gets exposed. He had a horrific game against Columbus back in December paired with McDonagh. Granted everyone was playing piss poor hockey except for Kreider and Zuccarello at the time, but still.

-Callahan on Buffalo makes a lot of sense. Pegula has already shown that he's not afraid to throw money around, even though the team is rebuilding. I don't think they would trade for him though; a rebuilding team doesn't give up assets for a UFA to be, they'll just wait till July 1st. A signed and extended Callahan, on the other hand, could land a package along the lines of Grigorenko or Armia, Pysyk, and a mid round pick.

-Despite this, I still think that center is the team's biggest problem moving forward. Whether you buy Richards out or not, it's still going to be a problem. Richards will be a gliding corpse in another 2-3 seasons. I can see him putting up 55-60 point seasons for only one or two more years, then what? He still has 4 years left on his deal at that point.

We're really in a bad place. The team doesn't have the assets to trade for a top 6 center that fits in long term. Thornton just got extended, so that leaves Grabovski and Stastny as top 6 UFA options. There's a reason Toronto bought Grabo out, he's a lazier version of Brassard. Stastny is going to be very expensive. You know what though? I'd rather pony up the cash with the cap going up to secure our top 6 center depth for the next 5-6 years. Keeping Richards only gives us 1-2 more years of that certainty. Stastny gives us at least 5.

Miller will be in the NHL next season, but I see him as a great 3rd line center, never quite able to make the jump to the top 6. Ditto for Lindberg.

Nieves is our only other real prospect that may amount to anything, and he's regressed statistically in his sophomore season. Not encouraging when talking about a recent 2nd round pick that couldn't even crack his WJC team as a 19 year old, losing out to two guys I never heard of and a 16 year old (probably the best 16 year old USA prospect since Patrick Kane, but still).

I clamor on and on about drafting Ehlers, Pastrnak, or Karlsson this June. You always go BPA, but I feel like this team needs a blue chip center prospect. Trading up for Jared McCann would be absolutely huge for this franchise.

No idea of what to make of that. Montreal may be looking for a culture change. Boston will be a buyer, why would we be scouting their big league club?

If Montreal is even CONSIDERING moving Subban. We better be in on it. He's exactly what our defense lacks.

Would move anyone but McD to get him, including Kreider.
