Unsatisfied
iIf Buffalo is a potential suitor for Callahan, I would think Grigorenko would be coming back. I believe the Rangers tried to move up to get him in the 2012 draft.
No he wouldn't. Have you seen him play recently?
I'd love to add Grigorenko but I still doubt the Sabres are buyers
Yup... cups trump everything
Yeah I have. He's pretty much holding together an AHL blueline for the 2nd consecutive season. He's one season removed from being the top PP producer amongst all defenseman sans Markov-Subban. Not to mention acquiring the #1 dman will hurt a rival team. Injuries are a concern, but I don't see the risk in a 1 year deal.
Not so much about them being buyers as it is getting out ahead of the FA madness for a player they really want. If they move Moulson and Ott at the deadline and add Callahan, I don't think that'll play them out of the 1st overall pick.
He can't keep up with the play any longer in the same way Markov is having issues in Montreal.
Quick doesn't trump Henke any more than Brown does Cally. Both are even swaps straight across.
There's a reason why the US Olympic committee chose both Cally and Brown to be part of the 5 man leadership group. Considering Backes and Parise are the other two forwards, that's pretty elite company. Notable players not chosen for that group are Kane, Kessel, Kesler, and MaxPac.
Not playing out but why give up the assets? They are rebuilding.
6/5.3 for G? If they can get that, I am fine with it. Nice discount, too. He'd get 6+ on the open market.
This is simply not true. He's still the Flyers best defenseman. The only thing he can't keep up with are his injuries, but when he's healthy, he's still a good defender.
Callahan being a local kid changes a lot, IMO. They'd add Callahan even if they are sellers.
Great rebuttal.![]()
I get to watch him play regularly. Did I need to spell that out for you...
Apparently.

Only way we get Grigorenko is if he gets wind of us trying to trade for him and he so desperately wants to come here that he starts to threaten KHL.
Grigorenko would be heaven though. Finally, a true #1C prospect who'd probably feel more at home in the bright lights of NYC then the grey skies of Buffalo. Buffalo would live through it as well, as they'll have Girgensons and probably Reinhart or Bennett as their top 2 Centres of the future.
Soo, just wondering.
Is anybody in this board on board with resigning Pouliot?
Yeah, I don't see how anyone can claim he is anything more than an average 2nd pairing defenseman now. Maybe even a good 3rd pairing guy.
Yeah, but it's the 21st century. Tons of NHL fans can stream games.
I like Poo. I'm with pld and Raspewtin.
2 @ 1.5 is a nice deal for him.
The Kimmo effect
Kimmo Timonen was called many names at the start of the season -- old man, pylon, and most damning of all, finished. While strong play in November and December staved off the obituary writers temporarily, there is still a growing consensus that Timonen is playing his final NHL season.
Yet there are two skills that Timonen has retained -- his ability to drive play, and his ability to elevate the performance of his defensive partner.
Yeah.... This is from the top Flyers blog on the internet, I'll just leave it here here. You know, 'real fans' who actually watch the game.

Coburn was brutal last season paired with Grossman. Schenn was great last year paired with Timonen. Now Coburn is great with Timonen and Schenn is looking like a bottom pair guy without Timonen.
He hasn't lost his smarts, but he has lost a couple of steps. Undersized and slow.
