Not sure Winnipeg would even want Gaborik and his higher cap hit next season for Kane.

They'd probably want something like Girardi, Miller, and a 1st.

*Enters fantasy land*

Flip that package for Kane (with a '14 1st), and then flip Gaborik for Yandle and Torres.

Kane-Richards-Nash
Hagelin-Stepan-Callahan
Kreider-Boyle-Torres
Haley-Halpern-Pyatt

Staal-Yandle
McDonagh-Stralman
Del Zotto-Eminger

Boom.

*Exits fantasy land*

I'm a Vanek fan. I'm also a Gaborik fan. A trade could benefit both teams and provide a shakeup, but the problem I can see is: I doubt Gabby lists Buffalo as an accepted destination right now.

He's definitely not soft.

He's a garbage goal scorer, a PP wizard. He can shoot the puck, too, very accurate shooter. He's bigger and better on the puck than Gaborik, and also younger, a LW, and RH.

We would have to add SOMETHING to Gaborik to get Vanek, but I would not mind a trade like that at all, I LOVE Vanek,.

Interesting. Personally, I'd rather get someone harder to play against if Gabby is going, someone bigger, stronger, more imposing.

And in fairness to Stepan, it was 7 games, and it was ridiculous to be drawing the kind of conclusions he was drawing.

Only that it wasn't 7 games. It was the entire 2012 playoffs, the month and a half preceding them, and the first 12-14 or so games of this season.

It's moot now because Stepan is playing the best hockey of his career. Let's hope it stays that way

Yessir. Logan is a more talented version of Steps. Which says a lot. Not that whether one or the other plays on the 1st or 2nd line makes a difference on a Torts team anyway though

So many people blew this out of proportion and took it way out of context. To this day I see people posting the following:

"there's fans here who wanted to trade Stepan for Jussi Jokinen!!2?!! OMGG!"

No. I wanted to trade scraps for J Jokinen when Stepan was playing AHL caliber hockey from February 2012 to last month. I still want Jussi. Very underrated 2 way player at this stage. An obvious upgrade over Boyle. But then again my cat is probably an obvious upgrade over Boyle.

If there was someone else I don't know about that ever proposed Stepan for J Jokinen straight up, they need to be found and beaten

He was never playing bad. Some obnoxious fans overreacted to a scoring slump, even when he was getting quality scoring chances. The same thing happened with Hags after the first 10 games of the year, putting him out in every trade proposal it was embarrassing. The same thing right now is happening with Gaborik, who is getting his chances but we need a scapegoat I guess. Young players, especially playmaking centers often struggle early in their careers in the playoffs. Detroit with Datsyuk for example. Now Im not comparing Datsyuk to Stepan, but people are so quick to throw in 'playoff choker' to young players when they've had minimum opportunities to prove themselves.

Stepan was AWFUL to start the season - lets call a spade a spade here. He was painfully slow in every aspect of the game. Nevermind all the peripheral noise that came of it as a result, but he was brutal.

As has been pointed out many times before, Stepan's GP per season:

2008-09 - 40
2009-10 - 41
2010-11 - 82
2011-12 - 102

If his play dipped at the end of the season, I'll forgive him.

Anyways, the theme of your posts were not that Stepan was playing bad, it was that Stepan is bad.

On a more serious note, you could be alot worse off than having a good team in a tough cap position.

I mean, what is the downside if we in the summer of 15' is forced to trade Marc Staal? What do we stand to loose?

Boston got into cap-hell [sic] and got Seguin and Hamilton out of it.

Logically, we would get more by bundling lefty Staal + righty Girardi as pair for a pre-elite D and a prospect, picks as opposed to
waiting til the last minute.

Miller shouldn't be. The kid is great but the only reason he is on the squad is because our depth sucks HARD (and we already burned 1 year of his ELC). All I know is half this fan base had Kreider inked in on our 2nd line scoring 20 goals. It didn't happen.

You are quite right. However, tell it like it is, let your conscience be your guide.

Kreider has the skill to be here. He just can't yet apply his tools properly. If that's actually true, I have no prob w/you saying so.

However, his problem is mostly IMO, because that s-o-b coach Torts will not allow him to play and develop. The guy is thinking EXCESSIVELY before executing. No way to play.

Get rid of Torts. He'll be outta K's head.
Some D might be lost.
a LOT of offense should return
And we will not have constant injuries/exhaustion from this stupid system of his.

We've been fairly fortunate in the past years with injuries. Other players haven't had problems producing in his system.

And if we're at the point where we're firing a coach because he isn't letting a rookie do whatever the hell he wants, we're at a bad point.

Your obsession with Kreider is a little creepy..

Your hatred for Torts is just flat out dumb.

Why is JT Miller up here? Why did Hagelin make it? McDonagh? I'm not going to even start listing names. Torts has done a terrific job providing opportunity's for the kids. It's been wave after wave.

You're just refusing to point a finger at the person who's ultimately responsive for Kreider's current situation. I don't see other prospects getting the short-end of things.

Multiple teams have expressed some level of interest in Gabby according to Dreger. Top 4 dman, gritty top 9 forward is what they are looking for.

so Boyle and Clowe? Not sure how they can deal Gaborik without getting a top 6 F back........I mean seriously

Depending on the price, Boyle would be great. A RH shooting defenseman? Yes please.

And again, with the Tampa Bay connection.

Would the Blues be interested? I'd doubt it due to Hitch's system, but they'd make excellent trading partners.

I'd love to pry, say, Shattenkirk and Steen from them.

Also, Dan Boyle would be a good acquisition....in 2010. The guy's done, do not want.
