Fisher's been a consistent 20-25 G, 45-50 point two-way center. How is his contract terrible?

Gaborik's currently on pace for 23 goals, 50 point season in 82 games. For 7.5 million. And he's no standout defensively. What does that make him?

Come on man.

He is soon to be 33, how long do you think he will keep it up?
I am not going to take the chance with 4.2M caphit.
By the way, if you call Gaborik inconsistent, how can you call Fisher consistent?
His point production last 4 years
2009-10 53
2010-11 24
2010-11 12
2011-12 51

Chris Kreider is where right now? Not on the Rangers 2nd line Ill tell you that much. Thats where the phobia comes in. With an established player you have a pretty good idea of their floor and ceiling. Kids are way too much of an unknown.

But Miller is on the squad.
I don't mind an established player, but not an old player with that caphit.

I stand corrected on the fan vs fans.

I continue to insist that is the better deal for the Rangers. Whether it is viable or not for the Preds, is up to the Preds not me.

Oh, well, of course. I doubt any of us would turn it down. It's a fantastic deal for us. That's why it probably won't happen.

Phobia?

Its based on reality. The Rangers havent had much luck at all filling the bottom 6 forwards from internal options/prospects. In fact, glossing over that issue with "Oh, (insert 20 year old kid here) can take over that spot" is a very big reason we are currently in this position to begin with.

There is some truth to that.
But sorry, the solution is not Fisher.

Seems like he had 1 off year in there, in which he was traded.

Regardless, you're getting honest feedback here. A Gaborik trade that brings salary back and fills a significant need is the most likely scenario.

Miller shouldn't be. The kid is great but the only reason he is on the squad is because our depth sucks HARD (and we already burned 1 year of his ELC). All I know is half this fan base had Kreider inked in on our 2nd line scoring 20 goals. It didn't happen.

Gaborik's 31 and goal scorers usually peak early. And I never said Gaborik's inconsistent, merely that Fisher is consistent.

Plus, you only showed 3 years - he got traded one of those years. his last 7 years stat line looks like this (from last year down)
24-27-51
19-17-36
25-28-53
13-19-32
23-24-47
22-26-48
22-22-44

That's remarkably consistent for an NHL player. He does get injured around 10 games a season usually (if he played a full season, he could obviously score more), but so does Gaborik.

And frankly, Fisher's two-way play might make him the more valuable player over Hornqvist. Obviously age makes Horny more valuable in trades, but as long as Fisher keeps up his play, I don't think he's overpaid and he'd be a pretty good fit here.

Somebody is watching carefully

Let me put it this way. It was widely reported what the Rangers are looking for, it was also reported that they are not actively shopping him.
The Talks with the Canucks were brief for a reason, the Rangers didn't want to take or retain salary.
I completely agree with that, I am not going to settle for a deal for the sake of a deal.

I honestly think you're making up some stories here based on a vague report.

I don't understand this phobia you have with Kids filling in roles. It happens all the time in Hockey, actually in any sport.
But you think the better solution is to trade for Fisher a soon to be 33 year old center with a horrible contract.

Let me return the favor, if you think Sather is taking back Fisher, you are more delusional.

No phobia here. I just see the foolishness in assuming kids are bound to fill holes in the lineup. You do that and you end up in situations like the one we're in now. Look at all those kids filling those roles right now. Feels good, man. Feels good.

Did I say better? No. However, Fisher, Ellis and a 1st is FAR more realistic than getting Hornqvist and the same pieces. Though I suppose it's easier to put words in my mouth than it is to end your vacation in fantasy land.

No, I was in the room with them :sarcasm:
Of course it was a report, I will try to find it later, I think it was Lebrun.

I am going to try to be productive for the rest of the day. Invigorating discussion.

I think that most likely, all this discussion about Gaborik will be pointless because I doubt he gets moved at the deadline. If he does, Here's what I think are the most likely packages:

:nashville: Fisher, Blum, 1st for Gabby

:nucks: Raymond, Booth, 1st for Gabby

:coyotes: Lombardi/Torres/Vrabata, Michalek, 1st for Gabby

Vanek

Gaborik + Miller for Vanek :sarcasm:

Seriously, though, Vanek is a RH LW - just what this team needs. I'd go after him.

I know many may disagree with me but I may lean more towards Pominville...

I am firmly in the move Gaborik camp.

Kassian + Raymond + 1st

Bourque + Blum/Ellis + 1st

Clifford + Forbort + Muzzin

Something like that

I like the base of Kassian and a 1st, but I'd rather someone other than Mason Raymond. I'd love Dan Hamhuis. Though i doubt Canucks would do Kassian/1st/Hamhuis
