Rumor: Trade Rumours Thread Part V: Gaborik "available"; LeBrun: NYR interested in D. Boyle

I'm a little surprised that Winnipeg isn't being thrown around as a possible destination. Especially after their GM announced that he wanted to add a RW. They have a glut of defensemen on the roster and with Kulda just signing a deal with them, they could have even more going on there. Burmistrov rumored to be an available piece. While he might not set the world on fire this year, he'd be a great piece to add to the system. Has David Krejci upside to go along with a great defensive game, IMO.

I think trying to hit a "home run" with one deal is going to be a tall order. You might have to trade Gaborik for a couple pieces you don't love along with one you do, and then try and flip those unwanted pieces for help elsewhere.

Very good point here. Idk if the Jets is who we want to be trading Gaborik too (I personally don't like the match and the fact that we are competing with them). However, the idea about not being able to hit a HR is very true. And Burmistrov would be a solid piece

They have pieces that would interest me for sure. Bogosian, Burmistrov, Scheifele (doubt he is moving)

I doubt Bogo or Scheifele would be available. The coach seems to be having differences with Burmistrov as he's been a scratch as of late. Hainsey is a UFA at the end of the year. Hainsey, Burmistrov and Cormier for Gaborik and FLA's 3rd this year. Cormier has been struggling to live up to offensive expectations, but it's hard to teach crazy on the ice. Kid could add more snarl up front and make us harder to play against.

Aside from Hainsey, the pieces in this deal aren't likely to provide immediate help. That being said, I'm not sure how much Gaborik factors into Winnipeg's long-term plans as an organization. The fans seem to think they're building through the draft, but how long do they expect this core to be in place?

I would be hoping for more than just Burmistrov and a middling Cormier coming back. Maybe Stuart?

With us competing with winnipeg for a playoff spot, I can't see us making a deadline deal with them. At the draft would be more likely.

According to WPG fans they want a cheap RW. But Kane for Gaborik works for me, get on it slats.

Why on Earth would the Peg make that trade? I mean would do it in a heart beat even though it doesn't necessarily address depth. Kane is a very young, special player. I just don't see the logic for Winniped. Kane's value >>> Gaborik's

Fisher will be 33 in June with 4.5 Mil cap hit until 2015. No thanks.

Hard to move a 7.5 cap hit without taking at least one contract back in the 4-5 range. Fisher or no Fisher, the Rangers would be taking a decent sized contract back in a Gaborik deal

I wasn't attempting to add any actual substance to this conversation. I agree with you, just sayin' I'd like E. Kane.

Do you know how long it's been since Detroit had top flight young scoring talent? They aren't moving Nyqvist or Tatar, especially for one year of Gaborik.

I am not sure what you are showing me.
Look, Newberry is ahead of Pirri and Toffolli. does that make him our #1 prospect or he is better than those 2?

You and I wouldn't know more than Wings fans.
On the trade boards, we had a long discussion with Wings fans about a Gaborik trade, I got the sense this is the way they rated their prospects:
1.) Jarnkrok
2.) Smith
3.) Sproul
4.) Jurco
5.) Nyquist
6.) Tatar

We arrived at a consensus about the following deal:
One of Tatar or Nyquist + Andersson + top 10 protected 1st.
Jarnkrok, Smith, Sproul, Jurco were off limits in that order.
Now, I am not sure if this deal goes through or not, but if the majority of the fans were for it, it tells me we are within the ball park.

And I repeat, their Kreider is Jarnkrok, not Nyqvist or Tatar.

Good work!
Seems that if DRW serious something along these lines might be best option for Gaborik.

Back up:
Ana may live w/1 year stop gap of Gaborik on Perry exit (though hoping to re-sign for less, which won't happen, he goes off in search of top, top $).

Phase 1: Gaborik (stop gap) for Perry
Phase 2: Perry immediately dealt again to highest bidder...

I honestly can't tell if you're being serious or not. Kris Newbury is 31 years old. It's been established that he cannot play at the NHL level and he is not a prospect. Nyqvuist is a 23 year old prospect who is flourishing at the AHL level after flourishing in Sweden and projects to be a top 6 NHL forward. I'm not sure why/how you could compare the two.

The idea that the Red Wings would take on 31 year old Marian Gaborik and his $7.5 million cap hit and salary for a year and half, when they have one of the worst defenses in the league, and an aging roster in need of youth, is laughable enough...but the idea that a trade could happen with Gaborik in which the Rangers would take back two guys on entry level, $875,000 contracts not currently in the NHL and a pick and no additional salary?

Can you find me one comparable trade where that much salary went one way and none went the other?

On top of that - taking Gaborik off the roster and adding nothing to it - not sure that helps the Rangers get back in the playoff hunt or how that falls in line with the reports saying the Rangers want roster depth and a top 4 d-man.

Marian Gaborik for Dan Boyle and Clowe, yes or no.

Not so much a recapturing move as a change of personnel. Rangers have Boyle on more or less the same term for next year with a slight cut. One could argue a PP RD fills a greater rangers need than a right winger does. Clowe becomes a rental for this season to fill out a spot in our top 9 vacated by Marian.

No. Don't want Boyle eating all that capspace next season unless we're getting back something more long term than Clowe, who has absolutely sucked this year.

I would, for sure. Sharks fans threw things at me when proposed a trade centering around Gaborik and Boyle, though.

My point is you can't use the AHL scoring table to determine a prospect value.

The proposed deal indicates the value the Wings fans assign to Gaborik.

Gaborik was moving tonight. Hopefully a sign of great things to come from him.
