So I will assume that many assume the Oilers will lose these two games, what do you think the Oilers do after those losses? I assume they trade Letestu and Benning.

Big surprise with Paigin, I don't know that it rules him out completely going forward within the organization (because they hold his rights still I think), but he's clearly behind the eight ball. I assume he wasn't happy with sitting as often as he was in Bakersfield

I think they lose his rights if they terminate the contract(which they'll likely be doing after he clears waivers).

That seems like pretty bad management then, if they weren't committed to him or didn't think he was ready they should of let him stay in Russia for another year (wouldn't cost a contract spot) to see if he could have another strong season like 14/15 and then he would atleast have some trade value, opposed to playing a grand total of 12 AHL games and being turfed.

I think those CBJ rumors are nothing and Chiarelli was scouting Buffalo last night because we're playing them on Friday. But if there was some validity to them, I could see Letestu as a decent add to either one of those teams. A Letestu/Benning for Savard deal is probably pretty hopeful but makes a bit of sense. From Buffalo, I kind of like the idea of a buy low on Girgensons.

Paigin on unconditional waivers, going back to Russia according to Ryan Holt.

Not overly surprised. Seemed like the type that wouldn't find success in North America, and I'd rather him go now then us put more time and resources into his development.

This morning we all awoke to the most frightening news an Oiler fan can read, "Chiarelli is working the phones". All other GM's have canceled their day plans and are anxiously awaiting a call from the NHL's Santa. They debate, "should we call him?" "Give him an hour", they say, "play it cool", the excitement is palpable. This is the time all the other GM's and hockey fans have been waiting for, the time to trade their untradeables, the franchise's TSN turning point, time to turn Ryan Murray into Nugent Hopkins. "He'll probably even throw in a couple draft picks" they say as they all nervously giggle. It could also be the time to shed that monstrous and now suspect contract. Draisaitl for Carey Price? But we have a goalie you might say, that of course does not matter, Chia recalls someone once saying "you build from the goalie out". Puljujarvi for Micheal Del Colle? Chia recalls he was a hot prospect recently... How about our first rounder and second rounder for Sam Bennett? Lowry from Winnipeg is available, would the Nuge be enough?? It's going to be a long day... please please FIRECHIA now!

It's better Paigin goes to the KHL than be stick around the Oilers AHL team. That place reeks of career graveyard

Bear was doing just fine before the concussion. The problem with Paigin is while he has a wicked shot, he doesn't skate well. He needs to improve his skating if he ever wants a career in North America.

Paigin was a flash in the pan imo.
He had a single very good KHL season, didn't look good at all last year either.
Could still a player but that said. 7th round pick.

The fact that he couldn't stick with his KHL team consistently didn't bode well for him heading to North America where every pro team expects you to play a complete game. Maybe he'll have a bit of fun traveling Europe throughout his 20s being a cheap rental offensive DMan for multiple Euro clubs.

Would anyone do Nuge and Auvitu for Josh Anderson and David Savard?
I'd do that deal easily.

Brings back two excellent 2 way right shot players with good size into the lineup.

Although I do have to ask why Columbus would do the deal... they are sitting at the top of their division and don't seem to be in major need of changes.

I'm still shaking my head that, after trading a mid first round, early second round pick and Taylor Hall and signing Russell to an enormous contract, the Oilers are still looking to "fix" the defence.

They would've lost his rights June 1 of last year if he wasn't signed. It was now or never to bring him over unless they had some kind of handshake agreement to bring him the following season.

I wonder if him leaving Bakersfield could potentially lead to them bringing William Lagesson back from Sweden. He's on loan there so he's taking up a contract spot either way, and there could be a spot on the farm now. But on the flip side he is playing big minutes over there and playing well from all accounts, so maybe it's just best to leave him be.
