yea only offer 3rd round picks and later for rentals........they need Miller to step in soon, likely next yr....Lindberg, Fast and Zuccarello are likely signed as soon as their season are over this yr( new rule )
They cant add salary to next yr. If anything they move out salary in Rupp to a cap floor team. I would be calling up Maloney and dealing Rupp , 3rd for Bissonette, Gordon........ something like that
I dont think Gordon is worth a 3rd but to move Rupp its worth it, saves cap space. Bissonette has one yr left but its cheap, Gordon is a UFA
Agreed, keep one 3rd (2 if the Columbus one does not work out
) and unload some mid-level prospects plus the Rupp contract.
Get
1) 3rd pairing defenseman that can play 10-12 minutes (Sarich or Murray) a night asap in a trade.
2) Try to find a new "Avery" or "Prust" type (speedy, gritty, can pot 10-15, crowd pleaser, energy injection) in a longterm perspective through a trade hiding in some organization right now. Maybe a deal around Haley plus another prospect/lower pick in 2014 for this. Develop him slowly in CT first... A diamond in the rough gamble...
A deal Rupp for Bisonette in addition to this kind of trade is fine.
3) sign one more NHL vet guy asap for fwd depth out of the slim pickings available (D Moore would be optimal here but he might not be playing). Costs only money...
4) Pickup a scorer and/or a PP defender (choosing what is necessary at the time) at the deadline assuming we are playoff bound. Rental UFAs only. Use 3rd round pick(s) and prospect(s) here
5) If PP is still a disaster, bring over The Hobbit for a shot for the POs - if he is willing and able (KHL team eliminated, contract is agreed, National Team thing).
6) Bring over Fast and Lindberg for play in Hartford as soon as their teams are out of SEL playoffs. If either look good, put them on the NYR Black Aces squad in the POs. They are both signed already & burning a year on their ELC right now regardless.
Getting to the POs might be the biggest hurdle to climb over though
