I want Raffi Torres on this team.
Fast, sound defensively, can chip in offensively and loves to take the body.
Does he go overboard from time to time, yes he does and I'm 100% ok with that.
This is a very vanilla team to play against.
No grit, no sandpaper.
Rupp and Asham can and do take the body, but by the time they get there, the play is already two passes away so whatever contact they initiate is for naught.
Boyle? Sandpaper? Grit? as I'm trying the words on the same line I am laughing.

takes too many suspensions and dumb penalties.. i really wanted Steve Ott. he is at least useful and can win faceoffs. i also wouldnt mind Dorsett or Boll from the Jackets..

the suspensions I can do without.
I'm OK with the penalties.
I'd rather have someone get penalized for being to rambunctious than a lazy hooking or holding penalty.
I'll take a roughing, boarding or highsticking penalty every day over the lazy ones.
IF Richards stinks for two yrs then sure buy him out BUT he's not gonna suck, he's gonna be just fine, its 7 games, not the end of the world people
I dont understand how people dont realize this already The Kings sucked last yr then won the cup......guess what the Kings suck so far this yr..............there is time to get back on track......they didnt have a regular training camp.

There will be lots of good opportunities coming up!
As you can clearly see - there will be some teams in pretty bad trouble regarding cap space next year...
The players are going to take quite a drop for all those (35%) of the contracts up for negotiation coming next year. Owners knew what they were doing here.
Add to this the possibilities of a significant amount of compliance buyouts (creating new free agents) and I think we will see a lot of action and movement the next 9 months. A real lot of good possibilities are going to appear, patience now needs to be a virtue here not taking on any several year contracts now...unless something great comes along...

agree but its the lazy ones that is hurting this team at this time, especially those stupid too many men on the ice penalties
His age doesnt change the fact this is supposed to be a Stanley Cup contending team.
Nor does it explain why he actually seems to be regressing.
Gaustad cost Nashville a #1 last year.
I would imagine that will be Florida's asking price and someone will pay it (not us).
Its better to take a flyer on someone that will not cost any assets and maybe hit lightning in a bottle. They were looking to do that already with Arnott, so I would assume Glen will go this route.
Agreed only UFA expiring contracts are to be brought in.
Halpern, Eminger, Gilroy make peanuts so thats not going to help the cap situation as players that may replace then will likely make the same amount.
Sauer is off the books unfortunately as they are not going to qualify someone with a concussion. Hope he continues his career on a two way deal

I remember last season when he had 1 point in his first 8 games he was "regressing" as well.
And I dont want this thread to continue going off the rails that he needs to be traded or anything crazy. I hope he turns it up like he did last season. We'll see. But man, when hes struggling out there, it just seems like its more noticeable than most players - I cant quite put my finger on why.
Anyway, like I said, the "Hes 22, give him a break" **** isnt going to fly with me this season. He has 2 solid seasons under his belt and is now the 2C on an upper-echelon team. He needs to play better, period.
Part of that is on him, and part of that is on Torts. Step could use a lifeline on the wing one of these days.
I certainly agree that I'd like to see more from him, but I just don't think you can say he's regressing this early in the year.
I also agree that he could use a better winger. Tortorella insists on forcing that Stepan/Callahan combination and it's detrimental to both players, IMO. He seems to have a little bit of chemistry with Pyatt, and we know he's clicked with Gaborik. I think it's clear as day that they should be tried together.
Yes, and Ive liked the way Nash and Richards have worked together.
A Nash/Richards and Stepan/Gaborik tandem on the top 2 lines seems like a no-brainer. I dont even particularly care who fills the other two spots available.
Fair enough. I just get a little sick of all the harping on him seven games into the season.
100% agree. I know depth isn't a strength to begin with but overloading the top line with Nash-Richie-Gabs makes it even worse.
It would certainly help Stepan and others, if Nash & Richards started producing like established veterans. Stepan is currently playing with players that probaly have a combined 50 NHL goals (excluding Callahan) and 100 points. It's great to be putting pressure on a 22 yr old while excusing the big acquisitions of the past couple of years!
