I think we all better prepare for this and a Phaneuf signing

Ah yes. Another guy who is primed to see his production go down and who has been the center piece of teams that have underachieved. He makes just too much sense.

Wonder if the Yakupov stuff will resurface. Pointless in his last 7 with a -3. A league-worst -17 on the year. Brutal.
Would Phaneuf really be that bad of a signing though? Obviously depends on the price but he is what the team needs.

He makes too much sense as far was what the team needs, the (2) teams struggling, and past deals.
He barely gets any minutes now outside of the PP.
But just watch him play and there is so much obvious talent there.
We'll have roughly 36 mill to spend this year, that's including a Richards amnesty:
Kreider - 3 mill avg for 2 years
Stralman - 3.5 mill avg for 3-4 years
Zucc - 2.5 mill avg for 3 years
Moore - 1.2 mill avg for 3 years
Falk - 1 mill for 1 year
Callahan - 5.5 mill for 5 years
That's about 16.5 mill committed in retaining players I think need keeping.
We need, a 2c, a 3c or w, a 4c, a 4w, a 3d, and a 5/6d.
6 players. 6 improvements. Del Zotto and Brassard I'm assuming should be traded for 1 of these. Girardi I'm assuming doesn't get traded and doesn't get resigned.
5 positions for roughly 17-18 mill avail cap space. Can Sather construct an effective team?
Let's say Miller gets the 3c position next year. Kristo gets promoted and sticks. Callahan slides down to the 3w.
We have
Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Zucc-FA/Trade-Kristo
Hagelin-Miller-Callahan
FA-FA-Dorsett
Staal-McD
FA-Stralman
McIlrath-Moore/FA
Ott for 4th line? Would he accept such a role? Vanek screams like a typical Rangers acquisition. Overpayment for a declining player that Sather doesn't realize is declining. He'd likely fit well with AV's system however. There's our 2c. How about Boyle and Moore? They're fine as our 4c and 4w. Does Sather resign them, then only add Kristo Miller and Vanek and focus on defense? Does that even improve the team?
Sather has a key offseason ahead. He can't swing and miss...
Mostly. Why are we trading Zuccarello for pick prospects? So we can replace him with an older, nearly as small Cammalleri?
I'd be 100% for signing Phaneuf. As long as the contracts are reasonable, I'd push to sign Grabovski, Phaneuf and Vrbata from that list. Trade Brassard, MDZ and Girardi for picks/B+ level prospects or better yet package them together for something better if possible. Trade Callahan as well if he won't take a short term deal to prove he has more left in the tank. Buy out Richards
Kreider-Grabovski-Nash

Staal-McDonagh
Stralman-Phaneuf

Call it a day
Unless they're interested in a Del Zotto or Girardi deal, I'd probably balk at just about anything. Oil fans seem to think they're dangling a 40 goal scorer, but he's really just a bunch of unrealized potential right now.
And it's all his own fault. He's as brainless as Brassard is with the puck and doesn't seem to give a crap about playing in his own end.

Again, I still want to bid on the kid. His value should be at an absolute low right now.

So we can get him for Del Zotto and Pyatt?![]()
I know right? You're looking mighty festive.
I know right?
I would rather go 7 years @ $7.5 million for Phaneuf than 6 years at $5.5 million for Girardi. Even if Phaneuf is a statue by the end of the deal, he can still blast one-timers.
