If Toronto was genuinely interested in Del Zotto, I'd flip him to them for Gardiner and Ashton. I think Ashton is a good buy-low candidate, and I'd be willing to bet the Leafs would balk if we asked for Biggs. I don't think Ashton is going to be a top-six guy, but he has the size, physicality and skating to be a solid bottom-six option. We've had a huge problem finding cheap, reliable bottom-six forwards.

He's capable of playing both sides, but he's a lefty. Yes, he's top-4 material.

Gardiner isn't a top-4 D now but he certainly has the potential to be one. He's a great skater with a lot of skill. The Rangers need a player like him on their blueline, and his history with McDonagh is just gravy.

Because Gardiner is performing better than Del Zotto, is controllable for two seasons beyond Del Zotto, and is paid less than him.
