the Oilers have 375k in cap space, no 1st or 2nd rounder in this years draft and most of the team has NMC....which available goalie do you want that will lead us to a Cup?
Just to point out, Tampa Bay just acquired Bjorkstrand and Gourde for a 1st in 2026 and 2027, plus change. The Oilers also have their 1st in 2026 and 2027, not to mention a few high-end prospects. They could in theory put together a better package than what they gave up for Ekholm.

The LTIR thing may be an issue, but I think the Oilers actually do know that Kane is out till the playoffs or there is a move lined up. I think we're going to be surprised at what happens there (and Seravalli will have a rare moment where he's got egg on his face).

What they feel comfortable moving is a different story.

2026 1st + one of Savoie/Akey/O'Reilly and Arvidsson for Rantanen
2026 2nd + whichever of Savoie/Akey/O'Reilly is not traded to CAR + Klingberg for Soderblom and Murphy

Kapanen and Pickard on waivers

RNH-McDavid-Hyman
Podz-Drai-Rantanen
Skinner-Frederic-Perry
Janmark-Henrique-Brown
Jones

Ek-Bouch
Nurse-Murphy
Kulak-Emberson
Stecher

Soderblom
Skinner

That's as close to all-in as you can get and still leaves $1.4M in LTIR space if there's one last deal out there for a depth W or C.

Really? Quick, Vlader? Korpi? all of the ones you listed are massive gambles. This board was shitting on Binnington during the 4 Nations until he had a good finals game,
How is it even close to a gamble to bump Pickard down with one of these guys? Even if the team wants to give Skinner more time to rebound and think he’s a long term answer. Bringing in another option is not risky. Most of the guys listed are not expensive. And space can be made. The riskiest thing is going with what we have. Their numbers this year are horrendous.

Possibly the most frustrating thing about the idiotic media narrative around the goalies is the "who could you even get!? There's no cap room!" Just an exercise in creating barriers.

Skinner can go the other way you fools. They treat him like he's an untouchable for reasons I can't begin to understand. They seem to have gotten themselves to the point of acknowledging we need some help there, but the thought of just replacing Skinner is beyond their ability to think I guess.

May as well log off then and stop following the thread. Nothing we have is worth anything, so you're wasting your time following along.

Teams would want 1st round picks and Skinner in return for a goalie they are looking to move on from.
That's what happens when you draft like shit for decades, you don't have enticing assets.

Would've been nice to have our first in 2025 but alas. 2026 has less value.

Besides, just take a peek at the standings and you'll see that a path to the Cup is extremely unfeasible.

Don't need to stop all, just need to stop some because you know, that's their job. You've been arguing because Oilers have defensive breakdowns [like every single freakin team in the league], it automatically absolves Skinner and Pickard.
they gave up a breakaway in the first 5 mins of the game last time...Pickard saved it
they gave up a breakaway in the final minute against Carolina, Pickard saved it

in a perfect world, which goalie realistically do you want? for me it was Vejmelka but he's off the market now...
so Soderblom? dude has a .905 save%...not exactly lighting the world on fire

Anybody. Literally anybody. Jake Allens of the world if we have to. Just somebody that isn't Pickard backing up, and ideally a straight up Skinner replacement.

Ideal world? Swing a deal for Binnington. If not that, then the best warm body that has a hope of playing average hockey we can find.

It's also a blatant excuse for management failure.

If we're dollar in dollar out first of all that's their own fault, and secondly fine send some dollars out then. They're not being paid to make excuses for why they couldn't make the team better.

Gave a goals on wrist shots from the circle.

Again man, we get it, it's only the defense's fault, if that's true, try another option and we can watch how the results are completely the same.

ya that was a brutal goal

and ya I do get it....literally anyone is better than this duo and whoever comes in definitely will never give up a soft goal

Better return than I was expecting.

I could be way off- but it seemed to me like Dumoulin, Oleksiak, and maybe Soucy were the names that I expected the Oilers to be in on. If VCR won't retain on Soucy, and now Dumoulin is gone, I'm really hoping they circle in on Oleksiak. Either that, or the acquistion is going to be extremely underwhelming.

I'm worried about a more underwhelming option too, but I'm still holding up some hope for Oleksiak, he'd be such a great fit.
