Rumor: Trade Rumors & Proposals Thread | No More Pacifism For the Oilers?

The team has problems, it's not flawless. Not addressing this, makes the rest moot.
Blame the management group(s). They blew their wad on getting smaller, older and expensive. And gave away their pedigree young NHL assets for pennies on the dollar. Holes aplenty and burning through futures to fill holes they created.

They’ve never had a goaltender strategy and bumbled into a rookie mid-level prospect as their contingency plan when they cratered the big money window bet. Terrible lack of strategy and no effort to correct. They can Hail Mary a attempt now but it will be costly. No one is helping to protect the Oilers from themselves.

Yes, that's always been the problem, they have failed the franchise, but address the goalies now or just quit, those are sincerely the options.

I'm not seeing a whole lot of factual evidence. Because Gibson was exactly that four of the past five seasons--a consistently sub-0.900 goaltender.

His game has bounced back this season to respectable levels after Anaheim removed him as the starter.

There's a very good chance that you'd make that expensive trade and Gibson struggles in the same regard if the Oilers' team game continued to struggle.
Gibson has always started well, and in those sub .900 seasons, the wheels fell off as the season progressed and the chance at a good year was fluttering away. I'll take a goalie who plays bad when there is no reason to play well on an awful team, over one who has to play at the top of his game to be an average goalie.

So tired of this management. Do something. Be proactive.

Honestly even if they moved some players off the books would be something. Or made some moves for the future. Like get rid Arviddson for example so you’re not kicking the same can down the road next year.

With the goaltending in particular, its such a major problem. They should be able to do something even minor just to change the scenery. They don’t have to go out and make complicated deals for Gibson or Binnington.

I hate half measured deadlines. They just waste decent assets on nothing that is going to move the needle but are unable to make smarter easier decisions.
Agreed.

For far too long we have been barely moving the needle, hoarding assets and not willing to spend, just to trade away those assets for peanuts or lose them outright.

I keep thinking on how many first round picks we refused to put into play. Where are they now? Gone. What do we have to show for it? Askarov? Blackwood? Rantanen?

McDrai can stop dreaming of a Crosby/Malkin legacy, even an Ovechkin legacy would be hopeful at this point.

I pray they don't join the ranks of legends who never win a cup.
