Rumor: Trade Rumors & Proposals Thread | No More Pacifism For the Oilers?

Your position on Skinner is "it's someone's else fault when he lets in a goal" or "doesn't matter which goalie we get until Schwartz is gone"

Prime Hasek could be on the market and you would still say the same thing
Prime Hasek wouldn't be scouted by Dustin Schwartz. There's a reason this team hasn't drafted and developed a goalie in 40 years.

Well this one is probably true in the long run. 🤷 Schwartz has been here forever and there is no evidence he is anything other than awful at his job.

He can't ruin a legitimate veteran starter in 2 months though.

Yup. Absolutely CRIMINAL that we aren't going after a new goalie, when its easily, by far, the biggest issue with the team. Like, its not even remotely close what our biggest need is. Simply baffling. Unbelievably stupid.
lol I'm glad we upgraded our analytics department only for them to ignore the mountain of statistical evidence that says our goaltending stinks.

So why are you defending a guy likely scouted and definitely developed by Schwartz? What makes you think he can unlearn everything, learn what he actually needs to know, has the natural gifts to do so better than most league backups, and get better in time to be good enough to get this team anywhere? Especially when other goalies are publicly dissecting flaws that aren't entirely down to coaching?

I like the addition of Frederic.
I'm pretty sure I'll like the new D they acquire also.
But ignoring our shit tandem and running them again in the post season is a recipe for a disaster 1st/2nd round exit. It's inexcusable. Year 10 of McDavid, and we still don't have a good goalie.
Sorry to say but anybody who thought there would be a significant goalie trade was delusional. Management has made it clear they like the tandem and there are no rumors anywhere that they're in on goalies. I never for one second thought they would bring in even a Pickard upgrade.

I also run the risk of looking real stupid if they do make a significant goalie trade but I think I'm safe from ridicule.

lol Skinner has been getting smashed by top teams all season and can’t stay above 900… yet that’s supposed to magically change in the playoffs when the competition ramps up? Hilariously dumb management.

I mean yeah you're not wrong, but them running back this tandem is gonna end the oilers playoffs in R1-R2.

Not sure this is fair. Holland mostly botched the job but he tried to get a goalie every single year he was here.

Some relatively big names he was after also.

Oh I agree with that too. He did at least try, and if Smith was younger he might have been a solid longer term option

Dubnyk did. It's not impossible.

Think about Skinner's weaknesses: Glove hand, first shot goes in, etc... Aren't these the same things we roasted Talbot and Koskinen over?

Dustin Schwartz isn't just the goalie coach, he's the goalie scout. He said he spent dozens of hours watching Jack Campbell and decided that was the guy to go forward with. A catastrophic failure to put it lightly.

There's zero guarantee the next guy in line is the answer. Because the last dozen guys haven't been. It's a fundamental issue that will continue to be an issue as long as the organization doesn't address it. It's not like it's just goaltending scouting that sucks ass, either.

Delusional to think an organization might fix its most obvious flaw. That’s just sad.

I could actually see us getting worse after the deadline if Kane is moved and goaltending is not addressed.

In:
Frederic (Injured)

Out:
Kane

I will simply not watch any games if we don’t bring in a goalie

OK, first off, you just said Dustin Schwartz is the goalie scout and scouted Campbell. That means he also scouted Stuart Skinner, correct? So why do you think he got it right with one guy and totally wrong with the other? Wouldn't it be more likely that they were both terrible choices? Campbell obviously being the worse choice, but still...

Hate to tell you this, but Dubnyk was playing well behind one of the worst Ds in the whole league at the time, and vastly outplaying Khabibulin, who still got all the starts because they were playing the lottery.

And wasn't he there before Schwartz, which is probably why this team was still able to draft a decent goalie? Also, Dubnyk didn't have a Dustin Schwartz to shape him into a turd sandwich... And was Dubnyk getting openly mocked for how slow he was, especially with his lateral movement? (and that one is not a rhetorical question, actually serious because I don't recall)

If anything, Dubnyk played surprisingly well behind a terrible team and Skinner has played surprisingly terrible behind a great team (up until recently).

I dunno, they came back from this:

They'll be fine.

Not with Stuart's numbers this season especially the numbers against teams in a playoff position. Teams have scouted his weakness and have shown to take advantage of it which starts with his very slow lateral movement.

Hagel's goal last week was the definition of Skinner being a fat ass.

if they add a goalie, which I doubt they will, it will be a cheap option, and not a clear upgrade. First, imo, Gibson and Binnington are not clear upgrades. Neither have played well consistently in years, stats do not lie. Both make more than double what Stu makes, and are locked up fro multiple years after this season. I don't see either as upgrades, and I don't see any way that Edmonton can make a deal for them with the assets it would take to get either of them at 50% retained.

So, are there any clear upgrades out there that are realistically available? Maybe Vegmelka in Utah, but 1 - is he even available - unknown, and 2 - is a clear upgrade - unknown, the guy hasn't played a single NHL playoff game.

All that being said, I agree, Edmonton gambled on Stu and Picks, and right now, it does not look very good. Unfortunately, they will probably be the tandem for this year's playoffs. Try and make the team play better in front of them, and hope they can step their game up (mostly Stu).

Dustin Schwartz scouted Jack Campbell. The GM signed Jack Campbell based on the recommendation of his scout.

Any questions?
What does Jack Campbell got to do with prime Hasek? You don't need a goalie coach to know how good prime Hasek is. If he's available, you sign or trade for him

That's like a GM needs to ask their scouts first to know if prime McDavid was worth signing if he's available lol
