We just acquired 2 wingers. If Kane is coming back for the playoffs, that means at least 2, if not more wingers have to be shipped out. We have much more cap space than we previously thought.
The majority of our forwards have NMC and we need to keep guys until the playoffs too. Max Jones is probably our 15/16th best forward in the org right now.
He’s a healthy scratch at best honestly.
At most we have Kanes cap and that’s it…IF the team elects to use it. There has been so many comments that the Oilers simply don’t like anyone available.

Honestly I think it’s more likely we grab a few free assets by retaining for real contenders than using the space for ourselves.

Does Seravalli ever not take L's? That guy's takes are always so unreliable.

Yeah, he really is exceptionally unreliable. Maybe he is bang on with other teams, but with the Oilers, he never seems to nail anything at all. In this precise instance, maybe Rishaug is wrong, so I'm not just commenting on the Kane thing, but just in general.

The team doesn't have that many wingers really since two of them are press box fodder and one should've been waived a week ago.

RNH - Hyman
Kane - Arvidsson
Frederic - Brown
Podkolzin - Perry
Janmark - Jones

It's decent depth assuming the guys at the top remember they're good at Hockey but it's not absolutely amazing or anything.

Florida getting all the Finns to really entice Rantanen to sign there.

Gotta respect the commitment

No he's a shit show with other teams, too.

In Anaheim they consider him the same as Ecklund.

Stauff hinted at the during the intermission of the ducks game. I dont remember the exact quote but he said something along the lines of if management believed they could win this year, they'll pull out all the stops and push the chips in the middle and go for it, and that they haven't done that speaks to how they view the situation.

Which honestly, fair enough. As bad as it sounds, the draft is the better time to add to your team.

Also keep in mind the team that makes the most changes at the deadline dont always end up winning.
So back to “can’t go all in every year”

Trading for goalies is hard.
Being an NHL GM is hard.

Best to reserve judgement until the smoke clears tomorrow.

The Oilers are not dealing from a position of strength (don't even know how much cap space they have?) so I am not expecting any major deals. Probably a few smaller deals close to the deadline when most other teams have wrapped it up and leftovers are thrown into the microwave.

Must be nice to be paid millions to be half assed at best at your job. Oilers GM and big company CEO's = profit +++++ no matter how bad things are going.
They are getting millions from the city to build an outdoor venue where they get profit. It’s f***ing gross. f*** the OEG.

Overpaying for a goalie given the situation makes sense. Overpaying for a depth D or forward does not. I'd be perfectly fine with an overpay for Binnington for instance.

this is on Kane as much as management
time to put their foot down and tell him to f*** off until the playoffs
Then he files a grievance and we are absoultely facked.

Although it is on management as they should've known this was going to be a potential issue. No different then locking up all sorts of guys and leaving your top RFA's unsigned.

With Kane though why they decided to give him a NMC is beyond me. NTC would've been better as you could threaten him with waivers. Now you gave him all the power as cap space is a big issues for most teams that he'd go to, as well you know damn well there is a pile of teams that won't touch him anyway.

Don't really blame Kane for not wanting to really move either. Wife either on bed rest or in hospital awaiting their next kid.
