I don’t think it’s the comments, it’s the context. The kid was dropped from the league completely after never having made it. It’s also doubly a shame when the skill seems to be there, but not the determination or character.
Not a single team wanted him when they could have picked him up for free.
That’s not a position for a kid to have any kind of attitude, that’s reality gut punch. It’s a time to shut your mouth and hit the grind stone kind of moment. While it may be a different response from most people, it’s just not impressive given the exactly zero he has shown to date.
His first regular season game in 5/6 months. He's happy to be back playing pro hockey again. I do not have a problem with it. As I said,I prefer honest enthusiasm to cookie cutter answers.
I am much more concerned with whether JHS has been humbled enough by passing through waivers to finally buy into what Trotz has been preaching: play defensively responsible.
