They were proposing Stepan + good piece for Yak on main board.

I am not familiar with Stepan, I know some were saying he is ideal for 2C, he seems a bit small and isn't exactly lighting up with hits etc. and is not particularly good at face offs. Is he really gritty or something?

Monahan did
Did he? Kind of a small sample size and Mr. Monahan is slowing down a little. A lot of people go through great lengths to discredit Gagner on here. I would like the Oil to get a bigger 2C but saying Gagner has no value is not true.

Stepan would give us at least another real NHL C... say Yak and Gagner for Stepan, rights to Girardi and Boyle

:deadhorse...again and again. Gags didn't have a great start to the season but came off one of his better years in the NHL. Did I mention that I am in favor of replacing him. Do you guys ever get tired of beating the same ****ing drum???

he is an OK C on the worst team the league. that spells not very good. even his so-called good last year he was on pace for what? 55 pts? maybe 60? I know he got about 38 points in 48 games, but he go them all in the first 20.

maybe I'm reading wrong, but if you are trying to argue that he is good you will get opposition for obvious reasons.

Simple math would say he was on pace for a very impressive 65 points actually

And there's the problem. Last year was, well, last year. An absolute anomaly. Now we're back to a full NHL season, where every team has gone through training camps and Gagner is playing the worst hockey of his career.

So now what?

The reality is he's a 50 point Center who's never put up 50 points in a full season. He's a bad defender, terrible at the dot and he's smaller than average, playing in the bigger, more physically demanding and better of the two conferences. Now factor in his 4.8M Cap hit and his impending NMC and you've got a perfect storm of mediocrity.

I did these trades in NHL 14:

Potter and Maricin to Boston for Adam McQuaid and Matt Fraser

Jones, Dubnyk, 2015 First to Buffalo for Ehrhoff and Enroth

Omark to New Jersey for a Fifth and a Sixth (Eat it, MacT)

Nick Schultz and a 2014 first round pick to Philly for Wayne Simmonds

Hemsky and a 2015 second round pick to Nashville for Roman Josi.

Made playoffs. Swept in first round to LA. We finished second in Pacific.

Leafs would win cup in seven games over the Phoenix Coyotes.

I just gave MacT awesome ideas for trades.

Okay so the 2014 first rounder turned out to be 24th overall. Which is totally worth Simmonds.

But our first rounder that's probably a lottery pick? Okay I'd be crazy.

I'm really torn as to what to do at this point. What we should've done was trade our pick in 2012. That would've had us further along in the rebuild and that's not hindsight, that's what I said all along, I don't want Yakupov. Sadly, at this point, I think we have to take Reinhart/Ekblad if we end up picking top2 overall, unless we can package it together with one of the kids for something valid in return, like a Weber.

Realistically, which teams would be interested in a top2 pick + one of the kids? (meaning RNH/Hall/Eberle/Yak) I guess Nashville, Phoenix and...Flyers? Any other teams who would be willing to deal away something substantial for a package like that? New Jersey?

What do you guys think we could get back in return? I'm terrible with trade value.

Could we get Weber for Eberle + 1st? Probably not

Hanzal + Yandle from PHX? Guess we'd have to add something more to make this deal happen.

Couturier and Simmonds? PHI have an abundance of centers, Eberle is an upgrade over Simmonds and they could fill their hole on D with Ekblad for many years to come.

These are the types of trades I'd be looking to do at the draft, should we move a top2 overall pick.

I was simply pointing out his random number he picked wasn't even close

Some of your ideas are decent, but some of your salaries are out of whack.

- Why would we pay 1.5 mil for a career AHL goalie who is only playing in the bigs due to injury? There will be cheaper and more experienced options.

- What has Schultz done to earn 3.5? Bridge at 2 x 2.

- Arco at 2? The guy has been healthy scratched numerous times. For an extra 750k you could likely land David Moss in UFA who played on Gordon's wing in PHX.

- Big no to Smyth. Here's hoping we can find him a contender at the deadline, watch him win a cup as a role player and ride off into the sunset.

Other than that, I could be down with that and would hope its playoff calibre.

Gagner haters make me laugh.

In Hemsky's last 3 seasons he has 145gp: 25g-50a-75 pts and -31. For how much salary? That's nothing for a player who contributes absolutely nothing to the team aside from scoring.

He's scoring at the same rate as Gagner is scoring with his cage, no training camp, and in the first 26 games after he came back (probably early) from his injuries.

I seriously never understood the love and forgiveness that Hemsky has always gotten here. The team absolutely lacks intensity and determination when he is on the ice and that's why the Oilers haven't been able to trade him these past few years.
