Every fanbase has players that they overvalue. Heck, just look at how we value Bernier, Martinez, Voynov...

I don't think we overvalue Voynov, teams would kill for him. Go to the Rangers board and look at all their Gaborik (who they greatly overvalue) proposals to the Kings, almost all of them want Voynov back in return

From what he said, I think he is in no rush to trade Bernier. May as well hang on to him until there is a decent offer.

And he's be wise to do just that. If Calgary wants too much for Iggy, then you shop elsewhere for the Top 6 forward he wants. Getting a Vet D is more important and he won't have to give up Bernier for that.
THere are other rental forwards available that wouldn't cost as much. Unless you're getting a non rental player back, someone that would be a fit on the 2nd line for next year and beyond.

A young D in his prime that could be a long term solution as a replacement for WM or RS? Sure, as long as it was the right young guy and the right big defender in his prime but that was what I said in my post too.
who in your opinion would be this young d in your prime I'm curious?

I think Dean's already done that ? people might not agree or like who Dean got for that position but I think ELLERBY is exactly the low risk/high reward type of move Lombardi has traditionally tried to build with. Picks up a former 1st round Draftee for a 5th, a kid who has struggled because maybe he was rushed and on a poor team that never really properly developed him, but still has that potential, still has the size, still has skating ability, still a potential diamond in the rough maybe ? In an ideal situation Ellerby develops into a slightly more physical version of Rob Scuderi. At 24, Ellerby's way ahead of where Scuderi was at that age ... Scuderi didn't break into the NHL until he was 26 I think ?, and at 24 Ellerby already has 4 years of NHL experience under him, so let's give the kid some more time, hell he's barely had the chance to get used to playing the Western Conf style or Kings style of play just yet, and people are already writing him off it seems, give him some time. Now whether or not he pans out is anyone's guess, but I think at a minimum he's Lombardi's Plan B in case he can't sign Scuderi to a cheap deal to come back, or to maybe replace Mitchell if he can't return from these injuries.

great, you just made me read all the horrible trade proposals on their board.

With Voynov it's not overvaluing. He's arguably having the best sophomore season in the league. And is really just finished playing his first full season games wise. Only bad thing with Voynov is the fact we will now have to pay him. I really expect if we don't give him a good raise he will get an offer sheet that is dumb. Look at OEL and the contract he just signed. And the numbers are very close the only difference is he has played twice as many games and they are the same age.

The fourth period aren't they like almost always wrong. At this point i'm more concerned with Eklunds updates.

I wouldn't trade anything for Gaborik for the simple reason he'd be in Sutter's doghouse within a week. The guy doesn't fit this team's identity at all. If he's too soft to play in New York he's definitely too soft to play here.

Voynov has also moved into the untouchable realm. I cannot think of any player who could get traded who I would trade him for straight up.

I agree with this. One player who is more offensive than defensive but has been getting huge props from his teamates adn some commentators this year is Semin.
I would rather have him than Gaborik.

Someone from the trade board had mentioned, Bernier for Iginla and a conditional 3rd (whether Iginla re-signs with us or not) and I thought that made a lot of sense.

If Bernier is traded before the deadline, it's going to be either Tampa Bay or Toronto.

Personnally, I prefer he stays untill the end of the season ... but DL should seek a better offer than what he could get out of RFA.

What makes you think it would be either Tampa or TO?
I would think there would be a few more teams that would be bidding.

Ellerby is still young. And he's learning the Kings system. I think he'll be a fantastic player for the long term with this team.

Is Scuderi a reasonable main piece in echange for Gaborik? :dunno:

Believe me, I don't want to do a trade with LA if Gaborik is dealt. I don't see any realistic trade that works out for both sides. I'm just trying to gauge what is possible since NYR and LA are talking.

I don't see what Toronto has to offer that the Kings need. Before anyone suggests Kessel or Kadri, there is no way they are being dealt.

As for Tampa Bay, the only logical option on their current roster is Marty St. Louis, but they aren't going to give up the player that helps setup Steven Stamkos. So the only other option is to acquire one of their top young prospects, which would be Brett Connolly, and Anders Lindback, to serve as a backup to Quick.

Not with Mitchell and Greene out. If they were in the lineup, maybe.
Our D is too young without him right now.

sources that must stay anonymous...

Tampa Bay only makes sense if they decide to give up on Lindback after just one season (actually just 21 games thus far) despite making a huge investment in him in terms of what they traded to get for him. Frankly, I doubt it, and I think he'll look better once Stevie Y gets that defense looking half decent.

Toronto makes zero sense though, as they are in a playoff spot. Dealing for Bernier, they wouldn't do that to make him their backup, so he'd at least co-number one with Reimer/Scrivens, if not be the starter. You'd think if they were going to deal for a new starter, it'd be for someone more proven than Reimer, not less proven, which Bernier is. Toronto fans would kill Nonis if he turned the teams reins over to a goalie who has never had the pressure of being a number one guy in the NHL in a season when they could end their seven-season long playoff drought.

I think NYR would have to take back some salary for next year for us to take Gaborik. We just have little cap space next season, and Scuderi is a UFA to be so he isn't even part of the payroll next year (at the moment). And right now, with Greene and Mitchell out, likely not an option anyways.

I don't see what Toronto has to offer that the Kings need.

Need, no, but odds are that DL would be pushing hard for Matt Frattin in a deal. There have been rumours floating for a few years that DL has wanted him, and he'd fit in on the 2nd/3rd line and has the Sutter required size.

Bernier for Frattin, Scrivens and Leo Komarov would be interesting.

not the place for it but how awesome was it seeing Smith get flattened by edler. I don't think it should be a suspension (although it would benefit us for tomorrow), turns out slashing players will come back to bite you the ass or head...

It was not awesome at all. I don't like Smith because he seems to go into beast mode against us. But that was a dirty hit. And if it was one of our goalies getting hit that way I would hope someone would step up and take the guys head off on the ice before he could get a hearing.

Didn't seem dirty, Smith blocked his only way out, look at the thread, there was no where for him to go.

If they're talking, it's not about Gaborik.

No deal. Gaborik doesn't fit into L.A.'s system.

Go find some other team to unload him to.

He went square into him. The goalie is allowed to try to get back to his net which is what he was going to try do since he misplayed the puck. If he had tried to pull up or make a move to go between him and the boards I would agree. But he just went for the hit. And it was probably legal against any other player but the goalie.
