Up until now we haven't actually played a 1st 2nd 3rd pairing system as far as our D is concerned. When healthy we simply rotate our players by timed shifts for the most part. PP and PK are of course different but that changes when we are without one of our key dmen.

To me A Mart will always be the more proficient dman between he and Muzzin and that is why I would keep him of the two. Both are competent at what they do and Muzzin will need the rest of this season to find his way but in time will be a very good addition to our D corps.

A Mart's ability to play a proficient style of game and still be able to chip in offencively is why I would keep him over Muzzin but as Muzzin gets more comfortable he shows that he can be a more physical player in front of his own net (though with difficulty so far but that will change in time).

They will be followed up by either KGravel or DForbort soon enough (two seasons) and hopefully AM and JM along with VV and DD will be capable established vets by then and along with Ellerby can form our future D corps.

I also feel that Roach and Deslauriers will both be high end wild cards over the next two to three years too that can easily become NHL d.

If were talking a mart or muzzin Its Alec by a mile for me. He was playing top 4 mins before his injury and was handling them fine. I think Alec actually has the best instints on when to join the rush on the team. He rarely has been burned from what i ve seen. Yes muzzin maybe more physical but we have physical all over this team. We need Martinez offense more imo.

I don't see Muzzin ever becoming much more than a 5-6 d-man. There's no way he's better than A-Mart and I just don't see anyway he develops into a better player than A-Mart. I think Ellerby is better than Muzzin too.

anyone else notice Schenn is outscoring Richards? Probably doesn't mean much with such small sample size, but looks like Schenn is progressing nicely.

True but have to consider the style of play of the team. Flyers are one of the most aggressive teams offensively and play a ton of run and gun hockey. Richards and Carter both had better looking stats when in Philly because of this.

That said, there is no doubt Philly got two very good players in Schenn and Simmonds. It was a good trade for both sides.

have the players switch teams and let Richards in on the wide open style while leashing Schenn and I believe it would be a reveral with Richards putting a larger gap in the points lead.

Would love Schenn back though. Schenn for Bernier +. Would look good on the 3rd and make Stoll and his 3 million a year expendable.

He has average 1.8 points over his last 8. The whole team is on a huge hot streak offensively averaging more than 4 goals in the last 9 games. With that said, Schenn has been repeatedly called out by his coach for his defensive game and has moved him from the first line, to the third, to the fourth and then he sat him a game. Now that he's hot again he's been moved up tot he second line but he was noticed having a yelling fight with his coach after a goal he was responsible for when the played NJ.

He's selling out to score goals and has sacraficed fundamental hockey. Whatsmore, he's had a few spats with his coach and Hartnell. he's not the kind of guy I want on my team.

Not sure what Lavy is so upset about, sounds like he's playing within the Flyers system to me :sarcasm:

I see. But nothing out of the ordinary for a coach to be hard on a young talent, especially demanding more on the defensive end. Not sure if that equates to sacrificing hockey fundamentals for points. But I'm not following PHI, so can't speak from much information other than pure stats, which looks impressive.

Richards has been very valuable, and already served his ultimate purpose of contributing to the Cup run.. but I think this might turn into a sensitive and recurring issue for yrs to come, both due to Schenn young age and Richards contract length. We will see.

He's been terrible defensively as a NHL player. I mean TERRIBLE. He was also terrible offensively this year up until 8 games ago and the media and fans were running the Flyers org out of town for the trade on NHL Network radio. I've seen about 18 games since I have so many Flyers and he's zipping right now but this guy was supposed to be a Richards clone. Seems to me he's just a floating crybaby at this stage of his career. I am saying all this out of dissapointment because I grew very fond of him in our system. I want him to succeed, espescially after our end already succeeded.

Sutter would kill him, he's awful defensively and lazy. For guy his size, he loses way too many board battles. He goes thru cluster scoring, (and did with the Phantoms too) where he'll go a few games with points and then disappear. He's good in the offensive zone abut terrible in the neutral zone and also in the defnsive zone, his turnovers lead to goals and far too manyh scoring chances and he has a bad habit of tossing cross ic epasses without looking. One reporter quipped of him that the only thing he does consistantly is make boneheaded decisions with the puck. And I had hoped after having been called in the office by Terry Murray twice during the lockout with the PHantoms to talk aobut his 'attitude' problem, he'dhave learned his lesson. But it would appear not.
Having seen both he and Richards play from their first days in orange and black, Schenn is a more skilled player offensively but Richards is a better player because he is a far more complete one. From his earlies days with the club (and the Phantoms where he led them to a Calder cup) he was a player you could count on to lock it down in the 3rd. He rarely lost a board battle (and still is good at that despite the fact he's usually smaller) and wa one mean playe to play against.

If the Flyers don't make the playoffs (which I don't think they will) there will be some more moves made. And since Couturier is a better player(a solid two way player) and Giroux is the top line center with Laughlin coming up in a year or 2 as the shutdown specilaiat on the 3rd line, that makes Schenn a valuable piece if the Flyers are serous about getting a top line D man via a trade.

From Hockey Insider's rumor update

•Leafs are in talks with Anaheim for Perry AND Getzlaf. As of right now, Ducks not interested in moving either of them as long as the team is in contention. But Toronto is inquiring several times per week I’m being told. In other news, sources confirmed to me that Mike Komisarek has requested a trade. He has been made available but not much interest generated.

I can't see the Ducks doing both players but i wonder what the Leafs are offering that would make them think the Ducks would consider. I know Kessel's name keeps coming up but you'd have to add a lot to that.

Also from the same blog:
Being told the Pens have Iginla on top of their wish list, and that the Flyers are interested as well. Sources close to Iginla have informed me that Jarome would indeed be willing to waive to go to Pittsburgh… could be a match made in heaven (Crosby-Iginla!)

ReallY because the Flyers and Pens really need offfense, they are goal starved.

Always thought Simmonds was the much bigger loss than Schenn. Brayden was in a tough spot with the Kings, he didn't progress nearly as quickly as we had hoped and the Kings had to upgrade at second line center, Stoll was never the answer and we were wasting core years of Kopitar, Brown, Quick etc. because we had no second line center.

Simmonds is an extremely unique player, not many guys can play the game the way he does. He carries tremendous value in the league, but it was a trade that had to be made for the Kings.

Iginla would be a great fit for the Kings if either Williams, Carter or Iginla could play the lw. Lewis has been adequate in that role so far, but that is an area the Kings are going to have to upgrade to beat teams like Chicago and Pittsburgh.

Simmonds has been terrific. And you can see why he was the player Homer wanted to give the Flyers a big strong winger. He plays a game very much the definition of what is Ed Snider's Flyers hockey and a fan favorite. He's also pretty adaptable, as Laavy loves playing with the lines and Simmer can move up or down

In addition to Iginla, there will be other players available , both the Panthers and Blue Jackets (Dater reported last week that the new GM is very much interested in creating a younger team ) will be sellers. And Buffalo has extra D that they might move (and Stafford has been mentioned too) .

A month today right ? To the trade deadline? I'd guess things will start moving by he 15th or so.

I think he's always been a RW. Carolina had Erik Cole, Ray Whitney, and Cory Stillman down the left side for most of Williams time in Carolina and the years they didn't have those 3 were the years Williams had his injuries. His last year there they also added Jussi Jokinen to the left.

Kings still need a big minute eating Defender.

Can't hope Mitchell/Greene come back 100%.

Hope Lombardi finds someone.

That would also look pretty bad on Johnson's part. What does that say about him as a play and as a person? Didn't like Carolina and had problems there, so he gets dealt to LA. LA trades him to Columbus (LA wins cup), now he's supposedly on the block again? this is Dany Heatley 2.0

He didn't have problems in Carolina.

He told Carolina before he was drafted that he wanted to go back to school for another year. They took him anyway, put a bunch of pressure on him to sign and then traded him because they needed help right away.

Not his fault.

Correct. Plus even after he signed in LA he was still taking classes to finish his degree at Michigan. Can't fault a kid for education being important to him. I do always get a kick out of that trade though, considering had they signed Johnson they basically would've ended up with a much younger Tverdovsky (liability on D, huge turnover machine) on their team anyway...
