The Rangers did reportedly ask for a #1 from the Avs for DZ. They got a right-handed shooting D for DZ which allows them to trade Girardi or Stralman for a deal involving a #1.

They have to, I would guess. McIlrath and Allen are very close to being NHLers. McDonagh, Staal, Moore, Klein, Girardi, Stralman. If they re-sign one of Girardi/Stralman that's 5 d-men. Trade the other one. If they can't sign either, trade them both.

It's a bit re-assuring that they were asking for a 1st back as that is what they should be doing. They need to add some picks, even if they are later rounds. 3rd for Moore? Okay. 3rd for Boyle? Okay. If the player is not in the long-term plans of this organization move him.

Not cheap, I'm sure. Probably looking at a 2nd + very good prospect at the very least, and they wouldn't deal him to the Rangers most likely.

He hasn't been bad. 19 points in 52 games. He provides some size and truculence in the top-9 which is missing. However, I am hoping (2) of Miller, Kristo and Fast are ready for full-time NHL duty next season. Richards is bought out. That's 1 spot. Pouliot goes. That's 2.

Yeah, and Richards is just 5'10. There are a few better big centers in the West, but they are not that many. Berglund even played a lot of wing lately. Kopitar aint that physical. Hank Sedin is hard to contain besides the players you mentioned.

I don't think you need size at center ice, if you get one of those 5-10 in the league that can skate with the pace of the game, great. But looking at someone like Lecavalier, its hard to keep up in the long run so the joy could be short lived. And someone like Joe T always seem to disappear when he plays the best teams.

But size at wing is obtainable. I for example always been a little annoyed that someone like Dustin Penner is allowed to hit the market at an affordable rate, for example. 2m per as a UFA.

Do you really think those players can replace the combined production of the two guys we would be getting rid of (Richards + Poo)? From what I have seen in those kids so far I wouldn't put any money on it. We are far from a deep offensive team we shouldn't be looking to take away guys who can put up points with unknowns.

No, but Pouliot is not the one I am worrying about replacing.

Richards being bought out is for the long-term health of the organization, not just next years team.

I disagree. I am hopeful Sather added Klein so that he has more options when it comes to negotiating and moving out a player. He added Carcillo who has been a good 4th liner. Does that free up a possible move of Moore or Boyle when Dorsett gets back?

Wouldn't get us an undersized right winger, who is severely underperforming at the NHL level, a purported locker room stigma, and will likely publicly force Edmonton's hand in the next couple of years (if not sooner) to be traded by leveraging leaving for Russia if his demands aren't met?

It wouldn't get you that much. They are talking about moving Gagner because they have too many undersized skilled centers. I doubt they add another one.

The only player I can see Miller replacing this season is Boyle or Moore. Miller has shown very little offensive ability in his short NHL time, keep him in the AHL till next season after Richards is gone.....maybe then he can win a spot in a more offensive role.

He has had plenty of opportunities and has yet to capitalize on any of them to stick around the Rangers. I'm happy he is playing good in the A let him keep it up and gain some confidence/experience in major minutes and situations.

Girardi has no value to edmonton. He'll be a UFA. Do you think he'll re-sign there? They aren't in a position to trade for a rental. Brassard would have some value, but isn't much better, if any, than Gagner, and Brassard's value to us is likely higher than whatever we could get in trade for him. It's pretty much a done deal that Richards will get bought out this summer. We can't afford to trade away Brassard unless we have a top 6 center coming in from somewhere.

Having size is great but trying to draft for size or trade for size without regards to skill and other things is a sure way to have a crappy team.

The Rangers may not be big but I'd prefer them to be small and skilled than big and lumbering and not so skilled.

And that's really just to say that it's hard to build a team of big guys with skill and just going big without regard for how good you're actually making the team is a bad idea.

I thought Miller was really good in the NHL too.

The consistency level is maybe not quite there, but I think he showed enough for me to be very comfortable about his future for sure.
