And? How are last year's standings relevant to this years?

They didn't really lose any key players and added an influx of talent. Hudler, Wideman, Bartschi, Cervenka along with Brodie breaking out and Bouwmeester playing well. With Iginla heating up again, I think they'll make a push for a 7-9 spot.

I think this makes Stasny available. Due to his cap hit, he may be a cheaper option in terms of assets.

Big cap hit, and he's been declining offensively over the past few years.

09-10: 79p in 82gp
10-11: 57p in 74gp
11-12: 53p in 79gp
'13: 10p in 18gp - on pace for 45 points over an 82 game season.

No thanks, I'd rather have Richards.

Why are people saying Calgary is going to be bottom 5? They've never been close to that post lockout.

The Flames have not decided what kind of team they are going to be. Players come in, fizzle, go out.
They have some serious catching up to do, as they did not draft well for some time. Maybe the jury is still out, but their last best bets have been Mikael Backlund and Sven Baertschi. I still see potential for both of them, but not sure if they reach it with the Flames.
The Flames are making a grand stretch here for a young player, but as mentioned, their rebuild should have begun three years ago.

Yeah, Rangers can't really do anything about their #1 center situation at this point(should be examined in the offseason). Best to hope that Richards and Nash get hot...

If they are going to upgrade any of their center positions, its the third line at this point. Rangers don't need to give up assets to bring in Statsny.

From what I have learned from the Av's fan base is Stasny has been stunted by Sacco.

Would still love to get a (preferably young) puck rushing defenseman.

Really wonder if there's a decent package that could be put together for Morgan Rielly.

Add a whole new dimension to our transition and attack.

Puck carrying Dman would be nice, but a booming right handed shot would be better.

Honestly, I don't think Torts likes having the Dmen carrying the puck on breakouts. Typically they don't move past their blue line.

Only time Torts likes Dmen on the rush are transitional offensive turnovers from the opposition. Gives the wings plenty of time to cover.

Too bad Campbell's contract is awful. With Florida struggling, Campbell would be a great addition (based on his skill set). But that contract is brutal.

Yeah, $7.1M over the next 3 years...I'm of the belief that Campbell with continue to do well into his late 30s...no thanks on that contract.

I think it may have to do with none of our defensemen being capable of doing it on a consistent basis. Sometimes McDonagh rushes it, it doesn't seem to bother Tortorella as long as a forward recognizes it and covers.

Torts had Dan Boyle in Tampa.

Just imagine what kind of impact a talent like Campbell would have on this club.

Wish we had a player like that. I believe as long as a forward drops back that Torts would appreciate the pressure that a player like that could cause.

Unless the Avs eat some of his salary, Stasny at 4M would be good deal. By the way, I am not saying for the Rangers, but for other teams. Few teams need centers desperately.

Well outside of Karlsson, Campell, and Letang how many puck carrying Dmen are there in the league? Not very many...

The rangers need defensive depth and a shooter for the PP and they should be good for a good run.

Yeah at that contract length its not worth it.

I wonder if a GM (Sather) could exploit Toronto's position and potential playoff birth for the first time in nearly a decade, and steal Morgan Rielly.

Dan Boyle wasn't really a rushing Dman though.

McD certainly has the legs to be PCD, but I'm not sure if he has the hands.

Campbell would be a nice option, for sure, but for 7million that is terrible contract.

Yea its a really bad contract due to length.

I don't think the PP needs to turn into a "strength" it just needs to be passable and stop being such a momentum killer. Secondary scoring (taking the pressure off Nash/Gaborik; Stepan's emergence aside) that can log PP minutes and/or drop Pyatt to the bottom 6 is the goal, at least as I see it.

I'd add Letang to the list.

No one does it quite at Karlsson's level, though.

I did...

But, still outside of those three, is there anyone in the league who are legit puck carrying Dmen?

Or, at the very least, better than Mcd, strahlman, girardi, or Del Z at carrying the puck end to end?

The fact that the Rangers still do not have a top tier offensive defenceman is important. This is not a case of me not appreciating the damned good defence we have, but have you seen a Cup winner in the modern (any?) era that does not have one?

I can't edit my previous post, but wanted to add you're right Boyle isn't a pure puck rusher.

I see it now. Yes you did.

No, to answer the question. At that kind of level, there isn't.

I do feel that Morgan Rielly could be the next one, though.
