Rumor: Trade Rumor Thread Part VI: Gaborik for Peanuts

First it was Drury and Gomez, then Redden, then Gaborik, then it was Richards, then Nash, now the savior is Malkin? How about we win with this team and stop worrying about the next big white hope?

Malkin's in a different class from any of those fellas (No one was thrilled with Redden btw) except maybe Nash... It's fun to speculate, but we all know that Pitt will sign him to a mega deal or deal him for a monster package to a team that will give him a huge deal.

I agree, or else Lemieux will pout and Bettman will soil his pants in fear.

I would KILL to have Malkin on this team, but why exactly would he want to leave one of the best teams in the NHL in the Pens?

Only thing I could POSSIBLY think of would be that he would want to be the man, and he will never get that in Pittsburgh with Sid the kid there.

What can we realistically get for Boyle? Boyle and a few 3rds? I'd like an upgrade to 3LW, considering Miller's emergence. Our left side overall is weak. Any ideas?

I wonder if Bobby Ryan is gettable. He was debated on here (was my first choice) before the Nash trade was completed as a younger and cheaper (in terms of salary cap hit) option. With the Ducks tying up Getzlaf at 8+ million a year, Perry likely to leave as an UFA, the Ducks may want some cheap talent. Plus they have some younger players they may want to tie up that won't destroy their cap. Who knows how financially stable they are. Acquiring Ryan would need Richards to be bought out. I don't think the Rangers have a match with Anaheim; MDZ (who Ducks didn't want last summer); Kreider (who the Rangers don't want to give up; a 2013 no. 1 draft choice (which the NYR don't have). Would have to put a package together centering on SOME of the following: Thomas, St. Croix, McIlrath, Skjei, etc. plus some early draft picks. Gaborik for Ryan with other pieces thrown in from both sides? Not sure if those would entice Anaheim to move Ryan.

We don't have the assets to trade for Bobby Ryan. Unless you want to trade Steps for him, which I wouldn't even think about before saying "no." I think that the Bobby Stevenson ship has sailed.

I can only imagine what kind of salary Malkin would command.

Tawnos correctly noted him turning FA depends upon whether or not he wants to be 'the guy', and I add also if he wants a quiet home base, or the largest stage possible, whether that's strictly on, or off ice, or combo of.

IF we get by all that, we just tell Malkin this is the max # we're allowed to pay you.
With HIM you don't negotiate.

At this point I guess it may be 1 in 4 he leaves...

Boyle to Boston for Gregory Campbell?? would this work??

I wonder if Toronto would trade Jesse Blacker, they have so many Dmen on the team and in the pipeline.

Kreider-Malkin-Nash
Hagelin-Stepan-Callahan
Miller-Lindberg-Fast
x-x-x

That is a scary top 9 if Kreider and Fast reach their potential....

Kreider-_______ -Nash
Hagelin-Miller -Callahan
______ -Lindberg-Fast

Set aside our getting Malkin
Kreider / Nash are complementary bookends

to maximize speed, MILLER should C for Hags + Cally.

Stepan could be fallback for 1a C if he is not moved w/+ for upgrade C or D.

Although we have other possibilities (Yogan, good size, scoring track record) for 3LW, I could see ....

if Gabby is to be moved, and we are presently talking w/LA
what about something like

Gaborik + Eminger + two thirds from 2013
for
LW Tanner Pearson (he was last year's first for LA) +
D Alec Martinez (he's been chatted up here before) +
2013 2nd
2014 2nd

Martinez helps immediately w/overall D depth and puck movement, and Pearson, w/scoring track record (sniper in making?) was projected as not having a long wait.
Plus we upgrade the picks..

Josh Bailey makes it 1-0 Islanders over Capitals on a 2 on 1 breakdown.....

wow Taveres gets pulled down by Ovechkin after Taveres dekes him and no call.. sounds like a Rangers game if that was Nash

Seguin makes it 1-0 Bruins over Flyers... Flyers defense is bad....

You make your posts so complicated for whatever reason. It's tough to follow your thought process.

Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Kreider - Miller - Callahan
Yogan - St Croix- Fasth
Asham/Mash/XX - Lindberg - Powe/XX

Girardi - McD
McI - Staal
Stralman - DZ

Looks like a pretty solid line up in a couple of years.
The weakness I see is
- LW depth, Yogan may or may not pan out. Better suited for 4th line.
- RD, Girardi will be 30 years old, and we don't have any shooters on that blueline.

If Gaborik is traded, a stud young LW with some sandpaper and top RD prospect, with a laser shot, must be included.

Totally realistic. You hit the nail on the head. Please become the Rangers next GM.

There's a thought process? Interesting. . . . .

Why on earth would Anaheim trade any marquee player when they're 2nd overall in the league in points? It makes no sense.

They don't want to end up like Nashville and New Jersey. Losing a marquee player for nothing. Anaheim wants to sign Perry. If Perry doesn't want to sign before the deadline, they need to trade him. They will trade him.

Kreider panning out soon seems less and less likely. It seems like he's going to take longer than we thought to figure it out. I think there's no way we separate Hags from Nash. There's not a single player on this team that has benefited more with playing with Nash than Hags has.
