Rumor: Trade Rumor Thread Part VI: Gaborik for Peanuts

I am against trading for Iggy. He is on his last legs.
As a FA, maybe I'd consider him for 1 year. But to give up assets for him, no freaking way.

so you wouldnt trade Brian Boyle and Stu Bickel for Iginla :help: id deal for Iginla just not prospects or much in value for that matter.

Huge Gabby fan, but for the sake of debate:
Sign MZA
Trade Gabby

you have a bunch of options here:
Personally :D I'd be ecstatic to see: Dubi + Anisamov for Gaborik
but realistically, you think we can pull off something like Gaborik for Perry?

Next up: Hainsey for Eminger and a pick (I'm pretty high on Hainsey, like him)
and Clowe for a pick (depends where SJ stand near the deadline)

I see these moves as the most realistic.

So essentially
Nash-Richards-Cally
Hagelin-Stepan-Perry
Clowe-Boyle-MZA
Miller-Halpern-Powe/Pyatt

Girardi-McD
Staal-Hainsey
Stralman-MDZ
Hamrlik

or
(no MZA)
Nash-Richards-Cally
Hagelin-Stepan-Dubinsky
Clowe-Dubi-Anisamov
Miller-Halpern/Boyle-Powe/Pyatt

Girardi-McD
Staal-Hainsey
Stralman-MDZ
Hamrlik

I can dream right? :D

Gaborik for Perry? Muhahahaha!!
That's beyond dreaming.

What bothers me most about the bottom 6 right now, besides a revolving door all season due to poor planning, is the lack of desperation, physicality, and tenacity that we saw in last year's team. Part of that is on them.

But a huge issue regarding the identity of this team is Richards' and Gaborik's non-production. When your top offensive performers dont perform, it sends ripple effects down the lineup.

Brian Boyle, Taylor Pyatt, etc, shouldnt have to go out there and think about scoring goals - its kind of difficult not to when you're down on the scoreboard and 2 of your top 3 offensive guys are continually skating in mud.

What bothered me last night was Beef set the tone early with a couple of good hits, Hagelin and Stepan I believe, and nobody responded on our side.
Yes the top line can struggle, but I don't see the fire from anyone, except Haley.
Nobody on the top 6 can hit and be in their face except Cally, but he is not big physically. We need a couple of LW's that can hit and set a tone.
The more I see this team play, the more I am inclined to pay the price for Clowe.

Sure. If that's all it takes, I'd personally drive up to Calgary to get him.
But we know it will be first + top prospect.

6 mil to 10 mil is a big difference. Prust may never get a chance to cash in again. I don't blame him one bit.

It's $4M. That's a boatload of money for a guy who makes a living primarily as a scrapper. Not to mention his girlfriend lives in Montreal. No brainer for the guy.

it deff is alot, but I look at prust as a player torts developed into a core guy.. we couldv'e added a year and went up to 5yr 10m or 4yr-8m.. still 2m AAV for a guy who gives it his all and brings it every shift.. it beats paying asham/powe 2.1m bc he brings soooooo more then them both you could even add pyatt as well..

FYI.. he got his GF when he moved to MTL and started playing for them this year.. its recent not when he was playing with us..

I can share that dream.. would love to get dubi back especially, guy was ripped apart on this board for not producing and getting paid what hes getting.. but i rather pay a home grown player that i know had a down year and could bounce back then some FA that doesnt share the same passion he had playing for NYR..

clowe i think is very realistic though for sather to get.. would be an upgrade over pyatt on 3rd line LW forsure..

Not surprised. Depres has been playing much better as of late. Works well with Letang.

Then again, Rob Rossi is a nut bag. How's that JMFJ to Pitt rumor working out, Rob?

:laugh::laugh:

I wouldn't be surprised to see Pitt make a major move at the deadline. They have a lot of good young players and probably want to make sure they can get a good run in with Malkin and Crosby. Not saying they won't re-sign Malkin, but you never know.

I feel like Mueller would be a good trade target for the Rangers this year. Some size and skill, young RFA, healthy this year, considerable upside, goes to the net. Could even play him as the #3 C.

You don't give guys like that 5 year deals. They break down quickly and you can't afford to invest that kind of term in role players.

Not the case. She was at the Winter Classic last year.

Montreal is not a city in which Prust is unfamiliar as he noted that his girlfriend “lives and works†in Montreal before adding, “Montreal is the best hockey city in the world. Montreal Canadiens — great hockey town, great hockey history.â€

Just curious, I know people are attached to our young prospects, but do you think we're building cases for kids like JT Miller by giving them NHL time, having them give some good results and increasing their value for a possible trade?

I think we missed that boat. Hell, I was captaining that boat last year, haha. Rangers have had interest in him previously as they tried to move Sanguinetti for him a few years ago. However, he was available this summer and we missed out on him. He's a building block in Florida now.

Holy ****, that is so harsh. So when Shea Weber retires one year early, Nashville has a 30ish million cap hit by himself. I can't wait to see what happens with all of those contracts. How long until a team tries to put a player on IR for the last few years instead of letting them retire.

I think I was wrong, actually. RB knows this stuff better than I do, so go with whatever he says :)

But either way, there would be a significant cap penalty for us. The Rangers have no problem wasting money, but they'll do whatever they can not to waste cap space.

We are the same page, completely.

Any comment regarding the teams state in any of the hot threads that are on this board right sooner or later wind up mentioning 19 and/or 10.

Yeah he'd definitely cost more now than in years past, but I feel like he's not so valuable to them that we couldn't structure a trade around Boyle + Skjei + other prospects/picks for Mueller and Goc + prospects/picks.

I've noticed that in this thread not many people have tossed around the idea of trading Skjei. We don't really have many trade chips this year, and he's certainly having a slight disappointment of a season. We don't *need* to have a completely home grown defense and considering McIlrath is almost assuredly going to be in the NHL this season or next I just don't see the absolute necessity of holding onto Skjei, he's nice to have in the system but expendable. I don't think anyone expects him to turn into the next McDonagh, and if he busts we have another Sanguinetti situation on our hands.

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Del Zotto
McIlrath-Andersson/Noreau/Ceresnak/Trade/Free Agent If one of these 3 don't pan out

*edit / sidenote - what we need is a bomb from the point which Skjei doesn't provide, and no other defenseman in the system provides. We're going to have to make room for that kind of dman in the future anyway.

Eventually something has to give on that defense, and I'm not one to think this season is shot yet. Now is the time to make that move, and we don't have the luxury to move a defensemen that is helping us now/will be ready next year. We may get better value for Skjei in the future (or worse) but right now we could certainly find a team willing to give us a good return. I feel like moving Skjei and possibly Boyle with some midlevel prospects/some of our 3rd rounders could meet the price we need to pay to stabilize our depth this year and right the ship without going for just rental players. I'm not sure Mueller and Goc are the answer, but when you start adding Skjei into a package with Boyle you're going to find a lot more midlevel options and upper tier depth(which is what we need) than what is being discussed here.

No. With the cap, teams need a steady influx of cheap players who can outperform their contracts. That's especially true for the Rangers who are regularly big spenders in free agency. Without players like Stepan and Hagelin, we can't afford players like Nash, Richards and Gaborik.

Of course the Iggy price is going to start high. Theres almost a month to go. Calgary can't let him go for nothing, it'll be a waiting game as the price diminishes towards the deadline, with the first contender willing to bite getting the deal.

They're hardly going to start with a fair price. Very little supply and a lot of demand for rentals.

Don't move Skjei. Bad idea.

Teams don't usually trade guys they just drafted at the following deadline. They don't carry too much value to teams who are dangling rental players. At some point, if all the prospects pan out, we'll have to consider moving a defensemen. However, until someone is knocking at the door and there's no room on the roster, I think guys like Skjei will stay with the organization.

It's tough because there aren't many moves to be made. Iginla is the big piece that's out there. What else would help the Pens? So many teams are in the hunt that it's damn near impossible to find someone you need.

I think folks get enamored with the idea of Iginla on Crosby's wing. I hear it every day here in Pittsburgh. "Sid needs a winger!" Why? He's the best player in the NHL already, and he has unreal chemistry with Kunitz and Dupuis, both of whom are killing it right now. Don't mess with what works. They need another stabilizing presence on the back end. That defensive group took a nose dive when Scuderi left.
