Rumor: Trade Rumor Thread Part VI: Gaborik for Peanuts

wow didnt realize how much we gave him.. thats still a great deal for prust to stay here.. cant believe 4m was the difference to leave based off what he meant to us here

It's $4M. That's a boatload of money for a guy who makes a living primarily as a scrapper. Not to mention his girlfriend lives in Montreal. No brainer for the guy.

I think Sather will give him a chance to bounce back. And we can afford to keep him 1 more year. Then again, what if he gets hurt? Do we risk not being able to buy him out? It should be interesting. It's very possible that our 2 biggest FA acquisitions in the last 4 years will be gone by July.

Richards still has 36 mil left on his contract. That's 24 mil if we buy him out this offseason. Even Dolan might hesitate on that one.

Paid out over 14 years. $1.7M per.

Huge Gabby fan, but for the sake of debate:
Sign MZA
Trade Gabby

you have a bunch of options here:
Personally :D I'd be ecstatic to see: Dubi + Anisamov for Gaborik
but realistically, you think we can pull off something like Gaborik for Perry?

Next up: Hainsey for Eminger and a pick (I'm pretty high on Hainsey, like him)
and Clowe for a pick (depends where SJ stand near the deadline)

I see these moves as the most realistic.

So essentially
Nash-Richards-Cally
Hagelin-Stepan-Perry
Clowe-Boyle-MZA
Miller-Halpern-Powe/Pyatt

Girardi-McD
Staal-Hainsey
Stralman-MDZ
Hamrlik

or
(no MZA)
Nash-Richards-Cally
Hagelin-Stepan-Dubinsky
Clowe-Dubi-Anisamov
Miller-Halpern/Boyle-Powe/Pyatt

Girardi-McD
Staal-Hainsey
Stralman-MDZ
Hamrlik

I can dream right? :D

We'd be over the 50 contract limit in either scenario.

Ducks are a better than dark horse dare I say favorite ( one of ) for the cup . While losing Perry to free agency and not getting assets back would sting a legit chance at winning the cup if it comes to fruition will def ease the pain.

No. That would probably make more sense, but the team that signed him to the contract is on the hook for the full penalty.

I think it's a foregone conclusion that we'll use our amnesty buyout on Richards in 2014. Even if we were to keep him, I can't see him playing out the end of his contract. So either way we'd get a cap penalty. No way Sather is going to risk that for an aging player.

Holy ****, that is so harsh. So when Shea Weber retires one year early, Nashville has a 30ish million cap hit by himself. I can't wait to see what happens with all of those contracts. How long until a team tries to put a player on IR for the last few years instead of letting them retire.

Hossa, Franzen are two notable players on likely retirement contracts, as I recall.

I think Kovalchuk's still takes him to age 42. 15 years, was it? I think the 17 year deal was struck.

Still, by the time Kovalchuk's contract expires we'll have been through 2 more CBAs

I think I'm going to be 32 by the time Kovy's contract expires. That blows my mind.

True, but that's still a lot of money. He gave one of the knicks 21 mil to go away, didn't he? I forget which player that was.

Stephon Marbury. Dolan told him to stay home and collect his money. The NBA PA got involved and he got his release with Dolan paying the money. Billups was amestied. His option for $10M-$11M was picked up before CBA expired. Then Billups was an amnesty guy when the CBA was signed.

am i the only one that thinks Bobby Ryan will be dealt so they can resign Perry??? any chance of that happeneing instead of dealing Perry??

I am against trading for Iggy. He is on his last legs.
As a FA, maybe I'd consider him for 1 year. But to give up assets for him, no freaking way.

Detroit won the cup in 02 with a bunch of players on their last legs.

Iginla still has it, in my opinion. We just don't really have assets to trade without crippling ourselves.

What bothers me most about the bottom 6 right now, besides a revolving door all season due to poor planning, is the lack of desperation, physicality, and tenacity that we saw in last year's team. Part of that is on them.

But a huge issue regarding the identity of this team is Richards' and Gaborik's non-production. When your top offensive performers dont perform, it sends ripple effects down the lineup.

Brian Boyle, Taylor Pyatt, etc, shouldnt have to go out there and think about scoring goals - its kind of difficult not to when you're down on the scoreboard and 2 of your top 3 offensive guys are continually skating in mud.

I would sign him as a UFA for 2 years. I wouldn't give up assets or give him more than that.

Yep. Exactly this.

As much as I like Powe for his PK duty and speed and tenacity, I almost wish the Rangers were able to dump Rupp for nothing but Palmieri + a low pick.

I would take Adam Hall on waivers today as a 4th liner. Tour #2.
