I'd love to get St. Louis, but not at the expense of MZA! And I wouldn't want to give up a 1st either. Cally, Kristo, 2nd, 2nd.

The problem with St. Louis though guys is that despite being still offensively lethal; he isn't a guy we can build around. If he comes here he has to be viewed as some sort of stop gap. A short term fix but not a long term solution.

Do we want to give away a ton futures for him? He has what? 2? 3 really good years left?

Also doesn't the potential buyout with Richards potentially complicate things?

Build around? Why would he have to be that guy? Is Nash not that guy? You acquire MSL to put yourselves over the top

Yeah, 'cause that's what the Rangers need - a 5th RW (counting Cally, but not Miller/Fast/Kristo) and their 3rd 4-pick draft in a row.

So if we trade Kristo/1st/3rd for St. Louis

and

Callahan for 1st/5th
Dorsett for a 6th

We would have: 1st (RC team), 2nd, 4th, 5th (Fla), 5th (RC team), 6th, 6th (DD)

Hagelin would be tough to let go.

Trade Callahan in a separate deal. Pick up a winger with some of the assets from the callahan deal. Gaborik round 2? Joked about it yesterday:

Nash-Stepan-Kreider
MSL-Richards-Gaborik

Gaborik? Just no.

Why are we trading Callahan?

It's been discussed that the sides are not close on a deal. Neither will budge. We're running out of time. I love Callahan, but if we could get a 1st in return + more assets, I think that Sather will do it. And if we can acquire St. Louis with a 1st being the main asset, to recoup that asset, while replacing Callahan in the lineup with St. Louis, would be an absolute no-brainer.

Who doesn't put us over the top, plays a position where we don't need help and has a shelf life of, what, 2-3 years? Brilliant.

I really wonder how many of the folks who are rabid to get MSL have been fans for more than 10 years...
Dont give me that ********. Ive been a fan a long time. Ive seen the crap we have had to witness. Yeah who needs an Art Ross winner. Who needs a guy with 61 points right now. I dont give two ***** if he plays RW and we dont need a RWer...we need finishers. MSL is that. You move Callahan and omg there is the opening...

Right. I'd only give up a package of picks that include a first if I have another deal on the table regarding Callahan to re-supply what I'm giving up (and also hopefully a high end prospect as well).

We need first line center ammo more than MSL. So don't give up anything that hinders that chase too bad.

My biggest concern right now is disturbing the balance the teams seemed to have just before the Olympic break. I get that Cally may have to go, but when you start talking about Hags and Zuc, you are messing with players that are playing well and helping the team flow right now.

MZA holds more value than Callahan right now. Great playmaker.

Absolutely, that's what I said. I wouldn't trade MZA for Cally (rental or with ridiculous contract), Kristo and two 2nds. And I wouldn't trade MZA for MSL.

Is he going to push us over the top though? At his age? I am not arguing that he can't be an excellent complimentary piece. But that would mean our window is this season and next imo.

I don't see us competing this playoff. I still think we have a few holes that need to be addressed for the next.

I have been a fan for 30 years. Championship winning teams do so by building a core (check) and acquiring elite talent to take them over the top. They dont win by hoarding prospects and draft picks that rarely ever make it (see: New York Islanders) Trading Carl Hagelin, Danny Kristo and/or a 1st draft pick that will be in the middle of the pack in a garbage draft will not cripple the Rangers future.

Has it not been reported and discussed that that gap keeps narrowing?

I mean I guess it all depends on what we are giving.
