I wouldn't give Clarkson $2 million per, let alone $4 million per. This season is an outlier for him. Clowe is on the decline, that's for sure, but Clarkson is not that good. And name me one Devil that has come here and been successful. There isn't one. That trend will continue.
Agreed, not interested in Clarkson.

I'd love to have Zidlicky or Zubrus though. Both should also come cheaper on shorter term deals.

Well I'm not gonna be happy w/it, but management will make a blunder in signing Clowe or Clarkson, which I am completely anticipating. I'd rather play the kids too and go with cheaper stopgaps.

I don't think it would be a blunder to sign one of those guys. It all depends on the amount of money and the term on the contract. I would actually say the Rangers SHOULD sign one of those guys.

Please God no to Clarkson. He isn't worth half the money he's going to get, though his pricetag has dropped way off after the inconsistent season he's having. I'd rather just stick with Clowe and not overpay him. That would be ideal :P

The love for Kovalchuk is completely warranted. He was the best winger in the league last year in the regular season and the playoffs.

He was great last year. IMO Elias and Whitney were better, but Kovalchuk is a good choice. I probably overvalue ES play. But he also had a pretty bad 10-11 season.

I'm just very adverse to unquantifiable "feelings" when evaluating players. They need to show up somewhere.

Take Nash for example; everybody immediately felt that he added a different dimension to the Rangers. But that "feeling" shows up everywhere, we score a ton with him on the ice, dominate possession etc.. But that isn't the case with Kovalchuk. There is nothing in his numbers that suggest he's due for a bounceback. But then again, that was the case with Ovechkin and he's turned it around.

I'll just continue considering Kovy overrated, and will probably turn out to be wrong.

I'd be reluctant to give out any multi-year deals this offseason. With the cap recapture looming I'd imagine there'll be a glut of players on next year's FA market (the last for compliance buyouts) that will be difference making scorers.

Elias also played large part of season centering Zubrus and Clarkson. He was listed as a C.

Whitney, I am not so sure if he is better than Kovalchuk. Don't watch him enough to formulate an opinion.

Yes, but look at Rick Nash's numbers last few years. I don't think he has proven for enough years he is in Kovalchuk tier.

When Nash has multiple seasons of excellence, then yes, I'll put him up there with Kovalchuk.

OK, this is Kovalchuk in the same timeframe:

He had three years of great production, but 2.5 of those were in Atlanta where the system was "everyone make sure Kovy get's the puck in a good position". His numbers immediately dropped after joining NJ.

The article cites Nash's 10-11 as "very soft minutes", but they are almost exactly the same minutes Kovy is getting and struggling mightily with this year (-0.078 QoC, 55.0% OZS%).

Kovy is the better special teams player for sure, but Nash is definitely in Kovys tier at ES and seemingly pulling away. I mean in Kovy's great 11-12 season he performed like Nash did in his down years at ES.

I would dangle Girardi around and see what pieces we can get. I'd add a fair amount to Girardi to get a Bobby Ryan/Evander Kane caliber player.

Clarkson is going to get PAID this offseason, and I hope we're not the team that's going to do it.

Honestly think he would be fine here, but he won't be worth what he's going to get.

This. Year in and year out, he's our best defenseman. Yet there's some people who think that Dan Girardi is better than him.

I love Girardi with all my heart but he's not in the same tier as Staal or McD.

I also think Girardi will have to be moved sooner or later. We need more offense from our #2/#3 defenseman.

Anyone who said Staal is expendable needs to get their heads examined.

MDZ, Giradi...yes. Staal...**** no.

Also no way in hell Edmonton moves Hall for a package based around MDZ. He's their franchise player and future captain. They'd trade any of their other young guns before Hall.

If Carolina offered their 1st (top 4 lets say) and lets say mcbain for marc staal, would you guys do it?

I dont move anyone on D.. it seems as soon as we loose one our d looses there special edge..

I dont see many trades right now..

I see maybe ROR revisited if Brich is bought out this summer (most likely next).. But no way staal and Girardi are traded.. MDZ is the only dman that will be traded and thats a huge if.. guy wants to be in NYR and will only get better.. we got to stop trading young pieces and just be patient and develop our young guys and team.. we need that chemistry back..

If Brich is bought out this summer.. you guys think brass could be a 2c and step up?

if so id like to bring in Horton this summer as long as hes not demanding a lot no more then 5m..
