HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread: From Here to Free Agency

He’s just not what we need in the roster. We need a crasher and banger on that bottom 6, someone who can muck it up and change momentum with a big hit and crash the net, a bigger Gallagher that isn’t washed. The Texier extension was knee jerk and unnecessary and although, nit devastating it was a really stupid decision to extend him at all, Nevermind a 2nd year. A rare miscalculation by Hughes imo.

Does texier have a no trade cause or something that I am not aware of?

I just dont understand how this could be viewed as a negative based on his small cap hit/term and play to date.

Team just made the final 4. And it wasn't one of those fluke runs they were a 106 point team. Why would they be years away? Hutson finished 6th in Norris voting. Slaf is entering his 5th year and just put up 70 points. Demidov was 3rd in rookie voting. Again I don't see why we have to say they are 3/4/5 years away.

At some point you have to trade assets because teams aren't built exclusivly at the draft table. Heck KH already traded 2 1sts and a 20goal scorer to upgrade the RD position. He apperantly made a deal at the deadline that the NHL blocked so who knows he could have already traded Hage and 1st.

Youth can help the team keep its window open but they already are a top team in the NHL getting over the hump and taking the next step to a cup final is within reach but it will take bold action and balls to make moves and to pay the cost.
While the team has clearly become competitive, the series against Carolina clearly and painfully demonstrated that the team is not yet a contender. No player that Hughes could have obtained at a reasonably cost would have made a material contribution in that necessary transformational step.

We’ve waited 33 years for our next championship. We will have to wait a year or two more. I think Hughes understands this and won’t overreach in what would be a vain effort to reach the promised land.

I know everyone will hate this idea but I can't help but think Elias Pettersson would kill it here.

Hes a moody guy. Hes also changed his game alot over the past couple years, and I question whether the injuries have permanently affected his abilities.

I dont think hes suited for the Montreal market. Besides, they need more jam with whoever fills that center void.

Agreed. I don't think Petterson is the right target at all.

Wilson is 32. Doesn't fit Hughes age group target. He's made it clear if he will sacrifice futures it will be to acquire a player in his mid 20's or younger.

Regardless, Wilson complements the core. He fits the criteria of improving the team for several years.

And he probably won't cost as much as a 25 year old Wilson would.

Gonna disagree.
Adding an extra top 6 and giving Marty an option to switch up the 1st line could have yielded quicker series in TB or BUF and possibly an extra goal in game 2 or 3 swinging the series.
Add in an extra year of growth from Demi, Hutson, Slaf with 3 rounds playoff excperience and hopefully Marty picking up a few coaching tricks and with the right addition the team can make a cup final in the next 2 seasons.
I honestly don't feel the talent gap between Montreal and Carolina was that great. It was more their excperience, coaching, and fatigue that caught up to the Canadians. IT wasn't because they had Jordan Stall and Stankhoven.
To me it just doesn't make sense to do the one improvement this team has known it needs since Nick established himself and to just keep waiting after the season the team had.
Improve the team so they can take the next step.

That's the only way I see the Hischier connection working. Hughes was able to talk to his agent and the Devils allowed him? Seems like a reach to me at a TDL but it's possible.

Habs were in talks with the Ducks with McTavish. That we know is basically a fact last summer. Habs are after grit up front and you don't go from liking a player a lot to not liking them at all in 1 year. If we traded for McTavish last summer, we would have him on the same contract he has now. That $7M AAV is all about who he can become, not who is now and won't grow/mature.

I like adding McTavish to our top 6 as a physical winger. A winger that could help provide a little physical protection for Demidov. Move Newhook to 3rd line with Kapanen and find a 2C for Demidov and McTavish

In truth, I want a 2C for Demidov and a RD for Hutson (Good skater but size/physical types). However, I am open to adding both McTavish and Hischier and living with the D we have or going after more RD stop gap types that cost less to acquire.

Caufield / Suzuki / Slaf
McTavish / Hischier / Demidov
Newhook / Evans / Texier
Anderson / Danault / Bolduc

Hage replaces Texier. He's not being move for either of McTavish or Hischier.

McTavish for Reinbacher and Kapanen (this is buy much lower than the price last summer)

Hischier for Habs 1st, Pickford, and Dach. One year rental? What are the Devils after for a return? 1/1 hockey trade or for futures mostly?
I like it, but I would like to try to find a way to keep one of our RD prospects, unless we draft one in the first round who projects comparably to Orville.

I don't think you're evaluating McTavish's attributes accurately. His hockey IQ is actually high, well above average. He evaluates soft spots in coverage, knows when to drive the net or distribute instead, creates offense in high danger areas, is usually ahead of the play, goo below the goal line and cycling. All that and he plays mean, big body, uses it well, doesn't avoid the contact. For skating, his top line speed is fine, but acceleration and edge work are meh. But that was said about Dylan Strome as well, but his hockey IQ has allowed him to figure out how to be still effective. I think McTavish can do similar. Other issues are being inconsistent, taking shifts off, lazy at times. I believe MSL, our team leadership and culture, could set him right again. All told, he has a 1st line brain, middle 6 skating, checking line physicality. To me he's a perfect 55-70pt 2C and his value has never been lower.
This is mostly wrong, particularly regarding IQ (i was more referring to dzone), grittiness, and straight ahead speed.
