With a top 6 like they have and a healthy Barkov, they are favourites to come out of the east I would think.

But they are also an aging roster that even when they were dominant had to rely on a generational goalie .
I would wait and see to decide how good they would be

It's a weak draft and the picks are 9th and 25 or 26th. Followed by picks in 2029 and 2030. Their asses are sore now, unless they can grab Knies or a similar level player.

It a good trade for both parties, Brady was not resigning in Ottawa. Florida still need a goalie.

I see what your saying, EP sure has soured since having some great years. I don't particularly love him the most, but for a pick (28th) and maybe Engstrom I think that could be fair.

If Van retains let's say 3.0M you get a 30 goal scorer (you gotta bank that a change of environment will propel him back if not even better) for 8.6M/year for a year after Cole, Matheson and Guhle (EP expires in 2032, those guys in 2031). I like that idea of having him and Demidov play with a big physical wing or centre for that line. EP doesn't have to be the centre, but he could be depending on what they go out and get.

The possible cheapness of this deal is what I think can be the catalyst. Hughes uses other assets to get other players and the Habs are really cooking. I feel like one of the deals (top 6 C and W, with a top4 RHD) will have to be a "cheap one" if we move the needle further this year.

I'm struggling with having patience for Hage and Zharkovsky. If we can insulate them coming in and making trades that don't involve them, it will greatly be to the Habs advantage. They may also need to be traded, to make deals and I am torn on that.

I wasn't able to read between the lines, what do you think EP will fetch and what is your interest in him?

I'm not really sure what lines you were trying to read between. I've made a few posts about him.

Not my first choice, but if it helps us get Hage, I'm not upset by having him. But I just don't see a lineup of teams. And Vancouver needs to rebuild badly.

I think he's still very reliable defensively. He's still talented offensively and in a good atmosphere maybe he finds his old self. He's not physical at all and that's my hesitation based on it team build but.... If it helps bring is Hronek, I'm all in. Hronek would perfect for Hutson.

My pairings would be;

Hutson - Hronek
Guhle - Dobson
Matheson - Reinbacher

Some talks started on friday afternoon between the habs and another canadian team. But it wasn't enough for IB to report the "rumor". I got the update on friday night that the talks "we're intensifying" and that's when I heard the names being talked about, I suppose IB heard the same thing and is waiting to get confirmation.

It's not a player that is on anyone's radar and people will be surprised he was even available.
