HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread: From Here to Free Agency

1st, Hage, Beck, Gally, Engstrom.

EP @ $8.5M + Hronek.

Figure out the cap after.

It's a lot. But we would literally solve two positions in one trade for years.
It is a lot, but we'd kill two birds with one Hage. I think I'd do it.

Florida has already 2 cups though.
We don't.

It's not a matter of our window being over. It's that there's no such thing as a reality where a team finally realizes in a specific offseason "next year is the year" and loads up/wins the cup on that particular season.

Great teams have needed several go's before they could win it all. Look at Carolina this year.

Might be a good idea to start while we still have our core signed to darling deals and scoring 50 goals / 100 points / winning Selke trophies.
When Barkov was Suzuki's age Florida had 0 cup.

Does he avoid contact?
Yes. Which is why he's not my first choice.

But it has also been blown out of proportion with just how bad Vancouver has been.

That said - Troy Terry avoids contact and I'd be thrilled to have him. So that's not the be all end all.

I'd be looking for a physical left wing and/or right wing to finish out the Top-6.

I'm almost positive Hughes was ready to move on from Matheson mostly because of the fit... but when he agrees to stay away under market value, you don't have a choice really.

The level of negativity on this board is total madness. It really is crazy.
No bro we’re cooked, we’ll never get past the Panthers, it’s time to rebuild sadly. Trade everyone for picks + prospects and let’s try to compete in 2035. :sarcasm:

On the Tkachuk trade; you gotta think Staios's hands were tied. Because trading your young capitain and the face of your franchise for what basically amounts to a bag of magic beans is a catastrophe.

Now, they have some pressure to add not only a top-6 forward, but a legitimate superstar/franchise-defining player with those assets.

Robertson comes to mind, but why would that guy ever sign in Ottawa for an extended contract?

Hard to see who would fit excluding him.

We can easily settle for secondary scoring, even if we would ideally get a central piece, because our primary pieces are already here.

But trading one without getting a quality proven asset in return?

That is rough.

It's crazy. I mean if that pick is unprotected then it's a relatively fair return you never know what could happen 3 years from now.
Agreed, Florida could be on a major down swing by then. That's the one part of the trade that seemed to make the trade a bit more even. Now that we know the pick is top 10 protected. I'm disliking this trade even more for Ottawa.

Ottawa should’ve told him « we’ll see you in camp »
Maybe, but the positive thing is unlike Larkin. Even though everyone pretty much knew he'd be traded. Brady kept it behind the scenes. Also you have to take into consideration how much of a distraction it is to have your best player/captain involved in this situation.

Getting both would be unreal, but I think we'd have to add more.

EP with 3 million retention probably takes something along the lines of Hage+1st+Gally alone. To get Hronek added in we'd need to add another major piece.

I don't think EP gets anywhere close to that. If that's the price, we're not paying it. And I don't think anyone is.

At full price he doesn't fetch that, but at 3 million retention they most definitely net a blue chip prospect and late 1st minimum.
