HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread 92 Waiting on the DRAFT Edition

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

It is in the scheme of getting a much better player, like Dobson and Crosby.
We just have to not sign Savard, Dvorak and Armia and replace them by ELC and this should give us enough room. We have around 74 millions tied to 10 forwards, 5 dmen and 1 goalie for next season with Heineman (11th forward), Strubles (6th dman) and Dobes (2nd goalie) as RFA to resign. If we replace vets by ELC that should put us at around 80 millions after we resign the RFAs. Don't forget we have 4.250 millions in retention for this season it skew our cap hit a bit and next season those retention will be gone. I'd look at moving Matheson if we have to create room before paying to get rid of Gallagher. Matheson is not a good fit for this lineup imo.

I already took all that into account. Slafs contract kicks in next year, thats basically covered by Savard and dvorak.

How realistic is it that we could get him for Demidov?

Like Crosby, it's all depends on convincing him, and less on convincing Pittsburgh. And I think (in both case) it's more realistic than some will ever admit, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

But I think HuGo would find it "easier" to convince Crosby he has a shot at one last cup in his childhood and historic team, than to convince Malkin, a guy with no roots with Quebec and Canada, to do so.

Crosby mentoring Demidov on a line and the entertainment value of him being here for at least 2 years will be worth both 2025 1sts in my opinion. Hopefully Habs squeak into wild card, might be easier to convince Crosby that Habs will be a contender with him.

One player I hope makes it to UFA is Gravikov. Can play RD and would be perfect fit IMO. Might be nice to have with Demidov coming over too.

The more i think about it the more i think that ROR is the perfect guy to go after. No he doesn't really fit with the average age of our core but as a 2 years stop gap he would fit well. Only makes 4.5m , has tons of experience , can still produce around 50-60pts year , he's UFA in 2 years and is excellent defensively which would be good to cover for Demidov if needed and teach him some defensive tricks at the same time. And while we would probably have to give something of value to land him it probably wouldn't be THAT much.

He's a great target to go after imho

Unfortunately Trotz is on record saying even though ROR doesn't have any trade protection, they are treating it like he does. He has to OK wherever he goes and it doesn't seem like another trip in Canada is on his itinerary.

There is zero similarity between us and Philly. We are 2nd youngest team in the league now. You replace Savard, Dvorak, Armia, Pezzetta, Anderson with Reinbacher, Beck, Demidov, Kapanen, Cuylle and you are geting a better team. It would need Suzuki and Hutson long-term injury to make us lottery team.
Our probability of McKenna is like 0,1%.
I think the point is more that we're still at a highly unpredictable point of our rebuild with many unknowns and growing pains left. Trading away an unprotected first at this point carries a higher risk than you seem to consider, especially for a marginal asset in return.

Either way, the probability Hughes does that type of move is even lower that of us getting McKenna.

after last night... Demi is welcome for sure... but way more is needed KH

It's clear that the line up requires upgrade all around. It is more a question of priorities and opportunities. It's quite clear that another good offensive line is needed. But I think that beyond the search for a 2c, we need another LW. I'm of the view that Laine isn't a good fit for this team. If there is a chance to trade him @50% retain for something useful, I would be all ok with that. Also... can we get a 2c that can win faceoffs? Man... how many did we lose last night to a bottom feeder team??

People are saying, you can pull Savard out to get Guhle in the lineup because he's in the 1PK. Well... to me that is a problem. If you have to rely on Savard in ANY role, this mean your D group is weak. Savard is a good soldier, but he's getting old. Time to increase the level of skill on the backend.

CC - Suzuki - Slaf
XX - XX - Demidov
Dach - Newhook - Heineman
Gally - Evans - Anderson
(extra/AHL: Roy/Beck/Kapanen)

Guhle - Carrier
Hutson - XX
Xhekaj - Reinbacher
Struble

At some point, you move off Gally and newhook. You try to bring more physicality in these two spots.

I wouldn't pay what it would cost for Pettersson.

Why want a 2-yr stop gap at C. Who would be the stop-gap after that, because Hage will not be ready to light it up in three years and a stop-gap C would move the needle and then we would drop back down with a rookie C in the lineup at 2C.

Not terrific for a continued growth curve.

The idea would be to integrate Hage as a 3C on a more offensive 3rd line and move him up when a longer stop-gap than a two-year stop gap was on the down swing.

So I was open to the idea of trading Guhle for a C, but after seeing how putrid our defense is without him, I changed my mind.

Instead, what kind of Center can Hutson fetch us? :naughty:
