HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread 92 Waiting on the DRAFT Edition

Lundell would be a great addition and Is signed five more years like Suzuki, only at just 5M.

His stats have been steady just below .5 PPG, but he appears to be headed towards his first 50-point season, all of that in a 3rd line role.

In Montreal, as a 2nd line C, his statistics byline would explode, especially playing with Demidov. Thankfully, he'd already be signed for five more years, but would be looking ahead to a much larger payday.

Montreal could trade Florida a combination of Mailloux, Beck/Kapanen and a 1st round pick (the lesser of CAL's or Montreal's 1st rounder, plus maybe Cayden Primeau for Lundell.

Both Kapanen and Beck would make good two-way 3rd line Cs, with perhaps Kapanen bring a little more offensive upside. Mailloux would provide them with a young offensive prospect on the right side of D and the first round pick would help the Panthers to restock their cupboards while they are in a win-now window.

Win-win for both teams, IMO.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Laine - Lundell - Demidov
Newhook - Evans/Kapanen - Heineman
Anderson - Beck/Evans - Gallagher

I also like the idea of playing Demidov with Lundell instead of a veteran C so that he won't defer to the older player rather than remain creative like he can be.

Don't think he is offence enough

He plays mostly 3C in Florida to be honest. Plays PK and a bit of PP.

He is pretty good 2-way C and still is 23 yo. I'm pretty sure he is better than Cozens.

I would not call 16:40 3rd line TOI (mostly because of the 1 minutes on the PP) but it's certainly low for a 2nd line player. You would expect a 2nd line center to play at least 17 minutes a game and be closer to 18 than 17. Lundell has only 6 points on the PP though (2 for Dvorak) so even if you remove those he's still more productive than our current options with about the same TOI at EV. He's also big and did quite well in playoffs last year. But i highly doubt he's available anyway.

Yeah he's splitting middle 6 center with Bennett.

Yeah it all depends on Bennett extending or not.

Florida is trying to win right now and their coach has made it clear Lundell is important piece to theit team. He's not getting traded especially for prospect they dont need

JJ Peterka is listed as a Center but hasn't he been playing wing? Other Centers listed are Rossi, Voronkov and McTavish
None of these teams are letting these player's go.

Voronkov has zero detail to his game, and so has been moved to wing this season for Columbus and playing much better there than at C.

Peterka is a pure winger.

McTavish would be interesting but plain isn't available. Same thing but to a lesser extent for Rossi.

There is no way Florida trades Lundell, he is like their mini Barkov. They will sign friendly deals with Bennett and Ekblad or just let one of them walk away.
I would say Lundell is already a better player than Bennett.

Fully agree.

I think Florida may well let Bennett walk, try and get a 3C in UFA to lessen blow of Bennett's departure, and then finally unleash Lundell as 2C.

So yeah, there aren't many options at 2C available this year that aren't either old or unproven.

And those few guys available will require overpayment if we try to acquire them so it might be better to try and sign a Nelson, Duchene, Tavares, Granlund type of center if we can keep away from giving too much term.

A trade target that I think could be good for us would be Horvat, though we would need to live with the last 2 years or so of his deal not being good value.

I don’t agree with that take. Complete rebuild is not 3 years.

The rebuild pieces comes from more than just 3 years though. Suzuki, Guhle, Caufield? Gorton and Hughes didn’t start from scratch

We are in transition years now. Rebuild is not completely over but it’s more of a reinforce the roster on the ice type management phase now. Yes we will still draft and continue to focus on development but that’s the farm team strategy to keep the team strong for a decade+

These are chase the playoffs years now. We will use some of our futures for pieces we need now, but not based on rental targets. Our management team is clearly not desperate to make a move just for the sake of it. It has to make sense. The opportunity is circumstantial depending on timing. Wait for the right piece to make a trade or UFA signing

It’s pretty clear to me

I’ll take that as a “no”.
I'll continue to view Hughes' intentions based on his work to date. As an ex-agent mercenary players have no place in his concept of proper team building. He's been very clear about that since day one. His actions to date support what comes out of his mouth.
