Oh I know that crazy talk, Lou about to Bergevin the isles.

Given the Habs closeness and great locker room spirit, I doubt they trade any significant players. More likely they trade their picks, prospects and use cap to add to the core they already have. I think that’s more likely than moving a core piece like Suzuki, Slaf, Cole, Slf, Demidov, Reinbacher and Hutson. Outside of them, I can see anyone else being made available.

There's really nothing to trade. Think about it, Savard, Dvo and Armia walk this summer and Pezz might get extended. I doubt anyone will line up for the services of Gallagher and Anderson. Matheson will be extended or traded next year towards the deadline, along with Laine. Let's be honest here, I wouldn't extend the latter, he seems so disinterested on the ice. Reminds me of Kovalev. All the talent in the world but no heart.

Anderson's contract suddenly becomes manageable with a caphit reaching 95 mil. Put him on the 3rd line and keep him there. Gally goes on LTIR, I mean he's pretty much done. Price's contract becomes enticing for a team to reach the capfloor. The Habs might get a reclamation project à la Dach. Apart from the Gally contract, the BargainBin mess has been sorted out. Suz, Cauf, Slaf, Guhle, the future core, are signed long term. Demidov and Hutson fit perfectly in the mold. I would throw the towel on Dach and keep Newhook on the 3rd line. Beck will be there as a bottom six.

I suspect HuGo will be extremely active in free agency. Lots of RFAs will not be qualified, amongst others Primeau and Harvey Pinard.

I would have traded Dvo, Armia and Savard to get more picks and reinforce the bottom six, but HuGo fell sort this time. This was bad asset management.

You really think hes gonna be there at 12-14ov?!?! I don’t. What’s up with that « an other C », it’s not like we have a ton in the pipeline/nhl lmfao

I would look at Obrien, Martin, Bear, Ryabkin with our picks.
Ryabkin could be the surprise pick that becomes a top-line Center. Obrien and Martin are not chopped liver, but Bear has played predominantly at wing.

Was thinking, maybe HuGo really wanted to tank and that's why they didn't aquire anybody but at the same time wanted to keep team moral so they didn't get rid of contracts either. Esp. pleasing the top guys. I mean I guess Suz is easily pleased.

Montreal does not check the boxes for top free agents....tax free state...warm weather....top stanley cup contender....and most top centers all have NTC....the only one who might waive is Kadri he grew up a huge habs fan....other center that do not have full NTC....Zacha 2 years left 8 team no trade list and Jenner 1 year left 8 team no trade list.

My plan would be to overpay Bennett for 4 years. If he can get 7 M$ for 7 years elsewhere, offer him 9M$ for 4 years. We have the spot and the cap space. And he becomes UFA before he is declining bad.

Let's be honest, Armia and Dvo could of went for picks. Bad asset management. Savard was kept to please the french media.

Let's hope KH steps up the process
Not sure anymore. For all the criticism BargainBin receives, he did manage to generate depth on this team by the end of his tenure which HuGo sold part of for futures. When Gainey arrived there was nothing more than desolation while BargainBin inherited a young core to work around, what he did with it is a subject for another debate. Otherwise, I'm truly dissapointed that HuGo threw Suz like that to the wolves, by placing him in the spotlight as if the captain's wish was to keep the team intact. Armia was easily tradeable for a 3rd and Dvo for a 7th too. They won't make a diff. if they stayed or not. I mean Dvo is quite invisible out there. Armia brings grit. They will walk this summer, so it's bad asset management. He turned Hoffman into a second, got another second for Laine and fleeced the Flames for a first to take on Monahan. So, Armia and Dvo could of gotten you a second if you packaged them. So, my guess is they plan to extend Armia. As for Savard, they kept him to please the media. It's just bad asset management. It's simple, UFAs don't come here, so build through the drafts. Your reclamation projects, Dach and Newhook, backfired. Stockpile on picks and you might get lucky. Anyways, the process will be long. Laine and Matheson are the big pieces that actually have some value.

Why would he sign for only four years if it amounts to what he would get in 5 years elsewhere?

This will be his last big contract and he can sign for 7 guaranteed years elsewhere.
