HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
To me, that's just nerves. They're the 2nd youngest team and all, and feeling the pressure. Ready to sacrifice themselves, but a little all over the place because of the energy.

That's all the value of playing meaningful games. Today, that's on Marty's board. Maybe next time, we put the fourth one in and close the game for a full 60.

I wouldn't evaluate where we're at in terms of the rebuild by looking at high pressure games we looked a little shaky in, but ended up winning.
I agree. Part of the experience you have to get to become a better team. That being said, we don't have the D nor the G to play defensively and protect a lead by being conservative. That's a flaw we need to address in the near future.

Laine - Malkin - Demidov as the second line of Habs sounds pretty huge (at least for us who see that Demi will deliver already from his rookie season, and that Laine will continue at least at his post-4nations -level).
Malkin is putrid defensively, is putrid at face off, is putrid at 5v5, is getting slower by the year, would be an absolute horrible 2nd line when you consider that Laine is putrid defensively, putrid at 5v5 and most of the time just don't care to skate at all. Not to mention cost of acquisition and missed opportunities, it's a no go. You most likely have 7-8 years ago Malkin in mind.

I don’t envy Hughes. No matter what, some fans will be bitching. I do believe he sticks to his plan of not sacrificing the future for the present. If he gets any phenomenal offers I’m sure he’ll take them whether it hurts their playoff chances or not. I guess we’ll see just how desperate teams are.

Hughes should meet with Suzuki and tell him they will have to play better than the last 2 periods last night or he will sell. Of course it wasn't Suzuki who was bad after the 1st.

I'm really looking forward to see how they manage the TDL and what the message will be after it passes. My gut feeling is a lot of people will be dissatisfied. It's a sensitive position to be in. One point out of a playoff spot is a strange place to be for a seller. I guess what we need to do is listen to what their messages have been. This means that they'll keep to the long term plan, they'll let the players decide, they want to make hockey moves(which could accelerate the process) and they don't value picks as much anymore (though they talked about getting some in a few years, when they'll be useful for a potential pretender/contender). Trading Evans/Armia without a replacement would be strange, they'd need to have a clear explanation or a return that's too good to pass up. The players would certainly understand they'd need to do better next year. MSL certainly wouldn't be happy. Getting a UFA for a high price would make no sense, so there's no chance of that happening. Doing nothing would be a very probably scenario. Adding a 22-26 year old player would be optimal and they gave the assets to do it. Question is if anyone is available. A veteran who fills a need and is signed a few years like Carrier is also possible.

Tampa

Yanni Gourde 5'9
Tyler Johnson 5'8

Point is listed at 5'11, but I am sure dude is smaller than that.

That is not to say that we can take on more smaller players, but it's nor accurate to say cup winners have not had small players.
It's not that they didn't have small players. It's that they didn't have 3 small players (think I did under 5'10 as my cut off when I looked). Have 1, have 2, but be weary of going for more.

Andersson isnt as good as people here think he is. He also has 1 year left after this one, so it could be acquire Carlo for 5 bucks, sell Andersson for 8 bucks and then sell Carlo for 4 bucks when Parekh, or Bru is ready.

How come randomly random people get insight into things ?

Was it free agency, or last year's trade deadline when the Twitter user shay something who only posted clips and I think wrote articles started posting all these rumours that turned out.

Robinson isn't exactly random though.

He's a content and film scouting director at EP. It's not surprising he has some contacts not only from players/agents seeking promotion, but from teams looking for videos/scouting info.

Worst case scenario could be not making the playoff, keeping all our guys, then losing them to ufas and drafting 12-14ov…

Don’t believe Hughes will take this chance. IMO Evans is good as gone.

I think he's got more to worry about than fans bitching. His "Plan" for instance getting thrown off the rails with Dach getting an injury on the same knee and Guhle who can't avoid the IR for scraps. The guy is gonna need to rethink long-term or his rebuild will fizzle.

I don't see anything moving unless HuGo is getting a 1st or solid prospect. Maybe Armia + Evans as a duo can get you a solid prospect. Maybe Evans can get you a late 1st. Other than that, I don't see HuGo messing with the team for couple of late 2nds or 3rds.

For maybe the first time in my life, I would probably be a bystander on the trade deadline this year.

On one hand, the guys have fought enough to deserve a shot with the current group.
On the other hand, we're not at a point where being a buyer is realistic yet.

That being said, I'd be extremely aggressive this summer, both on the UFA market and on the trade market, to fill the gaps in our roster. Sam Bennett should be an absolute priority.

And we’d 100% be losing Hage in that trade.

Sure it benefits us right now, not sure it benefits us in 2-3 years.

Is our D and goaltending good enough right now? It would be in 2-3 years when Reinbacher and Fowler are in full swing.
100% agreed. I would want a player like him but on a 2-3 year deal. If he somehow does waive for us, that means we could trade him down the line, but it isn't ideal.

Edit: I mean in terms of a trade. I would go for a UFA like Bennett and give him the Horvat deal as it wouldn't also cost us assets.

Gorton traded his large fries for a poutine earlier today :thumbu:

Mactavish is RFA… If they see him at 3C and he sees himself as 2C, maybe they are open to a trade for picks/prospects if they continue the rebuild (more of a hope post)
I'm worried about him, as he's regressing

Bennett contract will be a massive overpaiment, and history shows us, he will be declining pretty fast. If Habs were a contending team, I'd be 100% on it. Now it's just not the time. You don't sign high prized UFAs at this point. You will end up with a 7-8 millions third line C on a sharp decline when you are contender.

I don’t care if the lockerroom gets pissed off if Evans and Armia are dealt. They should’ve played better in the first 30 games of the season, then we wouldn’t be suffering to fight for a chance to finish 8th place in a conference of 16 teams.

Selling high is the right move for the organization and it would help to recover some assets to use to acquire a 2C.

Sell Evans and Armia, try to remain in the mix. Probably the optimal overall outcome.

then MSL needs to keep the gang going

2 periods is more than nerves... I think
