I’m not sure how people are choosing to not do simple math. Unless we’re talking about the Celebrinis and Demidovs of the world, most players, even highly touted ones like Hage, take years to make it to the show, if they do at all. And making a significant impact is harder still.
We should not value first round draft picks in the way a team in total rebuild does or even the way a strong team looking to the future to continue their success does.
Enough with the picks. We need players! We have a window: Slaf, CC, Suzy (and, yes, Lane and Demi). Even great prospects like Desnoyer will not be impact players for years. If we want to be true contenders in 2-3 years, we need players at least 20+.
If you can continue to pick up 1sts they should be used in packages to get ACTUAL PLAYERS. We need a 2C desperately as well as a RD. They are hard to come by but I would throw the kitchen sink at a team willing to part with a TRUE 2C or a TRUE top 4 RD. Not a prospect who, fingers-crossed, might one day, perhaps with luck, become a real piece (no more Dachs and Newhooks).
Unless we are looking at top 3 picks who can join the team immediately or in a season, even 1sts won’t do it, let alone 2nds.
I believe HuGo will find a way to get pieces who will move the needle; maybe a Nemec or a Yurov.
Otherwise, pass.
