Cozen: Someone with a motor on an awful, losing team who might have upside to do more with a better team
Dach: Lazy and devastated by injuries and has had half the career of Cozens

You can dislike Cozens all you want and think he's not the right target but he's not comparable to Dach.
Hes had 1 good season , yes hes on a bad team , that doesnt mean he has to be 100% bad*

Or they could go for an actual C.
They should try to go for an actual C, of course, but an audition at C won't cripple a player or his development. It's about communication, afterwards.

We should try Guhle at C, read somewhere he played some at 10yold.

Can we learn from our past mistakes and don’t f***ing play a good winger prospect at C?!?!
PTSD with Drouin, I see?

bo horvat should be prime target. experienced, not too old, signed long term, lefthanded, solid two way player with excellent fo%.
Like Horvat. Question mark whether he can be had without touching the team's core and be an actual addition to the roster?

Everywhere Horvat been though teams underachieved
Really? And that would be Horvat's fault?

Just asking to see what correlation there actually is.

Okay he’s been good for a week. What about the other 55 games where he’s a complete no show as soon as the puck is dropped?

Sorry but this is also recency bias. The guy has been dogshit his entire tenure in Montreal. The most bland nothing player to exist. Not good offensively, not good defensively. Not a good skater, not a hard forechecker. He might as well not have a name or number on his jersey, he’s the most vanilla player imaginable.
Nope, the sample size is pretty decent now. The overall feeling about him reminds me Eller back then. People bashed him non stop, no matter what incredible underlying numbers he has. One of the best in the league to take a face off in his own zone, get the puck out and end his shift the other side. Dvorak is not that good now, but he's getting closer, with an insanely good faceoff %.

Dvorak is playing very very well for several weeks now. Healthy for the first time in a while, still young, and most likely a way cheaper option than Evans. It's some of common for journalists and fans to spit on him, but it changes nothing he's a very solid bottom 6 C.

I summarize :

- Excellent in PK
- Excellent FO
- Positive expected goals in a non playoff team.

Cheap, young, liked by other players.

The thing is Cozens is a bad center , hes literally Dach but at 7m a year
You probably never watched him play. He's not that good the last 2 years, on an horrible team with crazy long history of failing players, but he's not at all the same player than Dach. At all. He's energic, he's hitting, he cares about his defensive game. And he's very, very talented, top line type of potential.

Risky play to get him, but also huge potential reward to get a high end 2C with grits at such controled cost.

Hughes injured in NJ.
Gonna need an extra C soon
(Evans, the 4th Hughes bro)
They already needed one before that as Haula has gotten worse it seems in every aspect of the game.

Not sure if they are still buyers, they don't have much buffer left and could be out of the race soon.

I honestly have no clue what you're actually trying to suggest.

The strategy hasn't changed since they took over. The approach (or tactics or priorities, however you want to frame it) are evolving, over time, as the roster and org. depth/assets evolve.

KH has been nothing if not consistent in both discourse and action. This year no different. What he does this week will depend on what's available & what's on offer, but it's unlikely they undermine the teams present competitive ability unless a high bar offer is met. And it's unlikely they aggressively pursue a top 6/top 4 rental unless the fit is viewed as more long term.

Fits the strategy perfectly. If you dislike the strategy, so be it :dunno:
I'm suggesting that you either think Armia, Evans and Dvorak ARE key players in your reconstruction and you sign them. I wouldn't agree with Dvorak at all but at least it shows me it's part of a plan. Or I'm suggesting that you trade them for the best you can get so you get assets in return. How just riding them till the end of the year 'cause you wanted a 1st and got a 2nd instead and for that you are not going to move them makes no sense.

Unless...the PLAN for THIS YEAR was really to make the playoffs. It's year 1 of showing the kids what playoffs look like and you want to ride with what you have. If so....no idea why there are discussions of Evans contract right now.

so again, to me, it's all in or sell. Those are the 2 acceptable plans. Staying put 'cause you are dissapointed in the return for you not to make the playoffs and seeing those guys sign elsewhere...we've played that game before with Bergevin.

How was Cozens on Saturday night?
Was he playing? Kirby for Dylan. Invisible for invisible.

Figured so

I'd be all over this but I don't see why NYI trades him unless the offer blows them away, especially at the deadline. He seems to be a key piece for them.

Seems like an offseason move. Could be wrong though.

Invisible ? You clearly not watch. 7 hits, +1, got into traffic. A couple bad turnovers also. He was anything but invisible, probably the most "visible" Sabres that game.

How about trying to get Barbashev from Vegas? Could help Demidov adapt to North America and the NHL next year.

Pretty sure he would be back nearer to his career 60-point season playing with, say, Slafkovsky and Demidov next year?

Turned 29 this last December and signed for three more years, until his 32nd birthday at 5M per season.

Evans + Armia half retained + Mailloux + PIT 2025 second rounder

VS Barbashev

Caufield - Suzuki -Slafkovsky
Heineman - Barbashev - Laine
Newhook - Beck - Anderson
F. Xhekaj/Davidson - Dvorak - Gallagher

to end the year and give an audition to both F. Xhekaj and Davidson.

Next year:

Caufield - Suzuki - Laine
Slafkosvsky - Barbashev - Demidov
Heineman - Beck - Roy
Anderson - Newhook - Gallagher

Barbashev would make a pretty good stop-gap, I think.
Love the player but I really doubt Vegas would let him go, he’s having a solid season and is on a 60 point pace

I think it's more complicated than that. If HuGo doesn't get what they want in term of value for Evans at the deadline and think they still have a chance of extending him, they probably keep him. If they feel they are too far from a deal, they will be more inclined to trade him even if the return is underwhelming. But then again, you need to take account of their position in the standings. If they win tonight and Thursday and are 1 point nor 2 out of the playoffs, do you really trade your 2nd best C for a late 2nd? I don't think you can.

I bet NJ or fla may bite on the dual package
Not with Jack Hughes' potential injury. I'm wondering if NJD is going to drop off the buyers list or if they're going to invest all their chips into getting someone like Brock Nelson to replace Hughes.

Bottom line is it's starting to look like HuGo waited too long.
