He wanted to play in Columbus.
Did the Habs make him an offer? And also, don't all players kind of have to say that..

esepcially since even if the Habs make the playoffs there is less than 1% chance they win the Cup.
The trade was the correct move. The issue is not signing him back in free agency. Oh Columbus is offering 5.5, well ok Sean we are willing to go higher, we want you to be with us for the next 5 seasons, come on back home. With the salary cap going up he's not just a bargain at that price but a steal.

I can see why, everyone besides Buffalo and Pittsburgh still have a fighting chance of making it in the east.
Out west it's everyone besides Seattle, Nashville, Chicago and San Jose.

So only 6 teams out of 32 are realistically in a position to sell right now.

Nah, Philadelphia & NYI are both out. Flyers 6 pts back with everyone having a game in hand on them except for the Bruins. They have to jump 5 teams. It's over.

NYI are 7 pts back & have to jump 6 teams. It's over for them, too.

It's getting close for Montreal, too. We'll see what the weekend brings.

People need to keep in mind ownership wants people to keep attending games & generating revenue in many of these markets - a deadline sell off signals “season over” to fans which is bad for business vs keep it going even if probability states making it is slim to none

I don't buy it.

Yes they might lose a bit of money over a few weeks, but the prize is more playoff revenue down the line.

I guess you did not follow the Gaudreau story huh. He EXPLICITLY said he wanted to play with his best friend, his soul mate from the Calgary years.

He. Wasn’t. Staying.

Yeah it's been stated a million times in this thread but people never seem to read even though they spend their days on this site.
Are you surprised?

Not saying the picks are useless, just that there are other considerations.

This has to be the last season of not being buyers.
...and what are you going to buy with? The picks you acquire from shipping out the deadwood. Evans. Armia. Savard. Dvorak. Pezzetta.

Even if we beat Buffalo in the next two games; we face some quality teams soon after.

Offer Islanders the Devil's 3rd for Pageau? He signed next season can re-trade him in a year get our pick back. Allows trade of Evans. Gives us depth down the middle. Buys time for Kapanen and Hage to develop
