He turned a corner.. then another corner, and another, one more corner and.. hey! We’re back to that thread about how he’s a bust!

Srsly though, it was a whole thing until he played well to end last season and then did well in playoffs, if memory serves. The rags are a mess, so maybe he can get back to playing better- also would think he should be part of the solution at this point, so idk.

Nail Yakupov is such a low bar though, he should at least aim for Daigle levels.

He really doesn’t do anything at a + level, which for a 1OA is pretty wild, and it’s not like he’s a massively well rounded guy who is just as good in all three zones or anything. He kinda genuinely sucks. He also has seemed like he “made it” and stopped trying since the day he was drafted. Kid showed up day one acting like a 10 year vet with the biggest salary on the roster and never once backed it up with his play. Earned his contract stapled to Panarin and Trochek while both had career years. Has never created any offense himself. Cocky as all get out. Equally lazy.

He finished last year and started this year strong. Since then...
He's gone missing.

In his defense, the Rangers are always a mess and he's not getting a ton of minutes. Having said that, I'm tired of making excuses for the guy.

...the Ranger "culture" might have a wee bit to do with it, as well...
You trying to say there's a country club atmosphere at msg?

Speaking of playoffs...he does seem to up his game come playoff time. He's one of those rare players whose playoff ppg is higher (albeit ever so slightly) than his regular season ppg.

If only Lafreniere and Shesterkin could play the regular season like it was the playoffs.

The only time he ever played well for an extended period was after that “the jury is in: lafreniere is a complete bust” thread from last year

He’s averaging the most minutes of his career and the rangers have made the ECF in 2 of the 4 post seasons he’s been in the NHL for. Not sure what this post means…

If you mean they’re always a mess this year, yes, but he’s also playing the most minutes of his career so…

He just sucks. He rode the coattails of his linemates last year. They’re having down years this year and he’s right back to looking like rookie/sophomore Laf. Theres been zero growth in his game and he doesn’t move his feet.

He played good long enough to secure that big contract.

I like his game and I defended him more than anyone but damn he did good by getting that big ticket. He’s a middle 6’er who gets stroked off due to draft position.
