I’ll be so bummed if we keep all our UFAs and then pick 15th.
That would be horrible asset management. I think management knows we won't be a top 4 team in the league for the next 20 games while all the other 6 teams play poorly.I’ll be so bummed if we keep all our UFAs and then pick 15th.
It all depends. If we only can get a 3rd for Evans, late picks for Armia and Savard, it’s not that bad. The young guys will experiment a push for the playoffs instead of a push for last positions like the last few years. I’m fine « paying » a couple of 3rd rounders for that.I’ll be so bummed if we keep all our UFAs and then pick 15th.
Lol asti, Crosby is good for 2 years for sure, still very good but the timing doesn't fit for us.Exactement, lol asti. Yet it would most likely be the price for 2 years of Crosby.
I fully disagree here. I'm following the draft closely. I'm not the one evaluating players, but I'm pretty good at summarizing more competent person's opinions. And there is a massive gap between the first 8 picks and what's left. We will most likely see a few players move up and down, but if nothing drastic happens, you will be able to draft a 2C at 8, maybe 9 with luck, but not at 10+. If you get to #7, you are in a great position, as you have higher chances to win the lottery and pick Misa, but also you are sure to get a very good C prospect. Desnoyer would be incredible, but if he's not there, you have 3 others high profile C (Bear / O'Brien / McQueen). None of these will be there at 12.We're likely not falling to bottom 5 anyway. For the difference of a couple of spots in the standings between 8-12, we're far better off with Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, Arber, Guhle etc playing meaningful games. Also players like Suzuki deserve a bone thrown at him after being a good soldier through this rebuild. This isn't a hockey pool. Human emotions and sentiment go a long way in building a team and recruiting UFAs when we're ready to take that plunge.

I'd never watch another Habs game again if they did that trade lol.Pittsburgh is awful. They should blow it up and start fresh. This year and the next two look like good seasons to tank.
Flames 1st 2025
Habs 1st 2025
Habs 1st 2026
Jake Evans
for
Crosby
BRING HIM HOME!!
Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Heinemen - Crosby - Demidov
Laine - Dach - Newhook
Anderson - Beck - Gally
Kapanen
Guhle - Matheson
Hutson - Reinbacher
Xhekaj - Carrier
Mailloux/Struble
At the draft - package both 2nds plus a third to move up to 1st round.
Fully agree. I get the appeal for most to have Crosby for 2 years. But it's a ridiculous timing and the idea that the cost of acquisitions would be balanced by the "experience and leadership" he'll share around is delusional, especially when you consider that not only he would cost a lot of futures to acquire, but also you would lost several draft ranks for no chance to really win anything.Lol asti, Crosby is good for 2 years for sure, still very good but the timing doesn't fit for us.
We better leave this discussion about Crosby, this is a waste of time.
For a late 2nd round? Yes, go try to make the playoffsSo you'd rather lose him for nothing?
How many pts we need to catch Columbus for a PO spot? For a late 2nd round? Yes, go try to make the playoffs
How many pts we need to catch Columbus for a PO spot?
You assume we are playing meaningful games because of the vets though. That's no what i see. Unpopular opinion probably but Struble is better than Savard at this point of Savard's career. We're likely not falling to bottom 5 anyway. 3 pts, so I prefer a battle for the playoffs then a late 2nd round pick in a weak draftHow many pts we need to catch Columbus for a PO spot?
How much would it cost to trade from 12 to 8?We're likely not falling to bottom 5 anyway. Let's say we don't go 0.650 for the next 20 games and all 6 other teams don't shit to bed, was it worth it to miss the playoffs but not have a free 2nd round pick? For a late 2nd round? Yes, go try to make the playoffs
I was going to reply pretty much the same thing. I doubt you get a high pick for Dvorak at his salary anyway so might as well keep him to finish the season. I agree with re-signing him for 1-2 years also at the condition of getting a real 2C and letting Beck and Kapanen fight for the last spot. Newhook is great depth at the position.Dvorak, for white some time now, is the C of an incredibly effective line. They don't score much, but they bring the puck the other side, they harass, they hit, and they don't get scored often. Dvorak is someone I'd consider to offer a cheap 1-2 years deal, so you stabilize your bottom 6 at zero cost.
Then you have a competition between Beck, Newhook, Kapanen and even Dach to fill the other bottom 6 C.
And finally, you try to land a legitimate 1C or elite 2C for the long run.
For the experience of battling for a playoff spot ? I do think so yes.Let's say we don't go 0.650 for the next 20 games and all 6 other teams don't shit to bed, was it worth it to miss the playoffs but not have a free 2nd round pick?
Given how only 2 of the 16 teams in the East are for sure out, we would still be battling. Being "in the mix" is not impressive this year, so we will be relatively close no matter what. For the experience of battling for a playoff spot ? I do think so yes.
The price for Evans should be a 1st. Package him wit Armia and retain on Armia is needs be, As a GM sometimes you need to stick to your gun to show other GMs you wont budge. I would hate losing him for nothing but a low 2nd is not worth it for him.For the experience of battling for a playoff spot ? I do think so yes.
That being said, if we can get an early 2nd/ 2nd + 3rd/ Quality prospect who have a nice progression, I would do it
I seriously doubt the Habs will be in position to draft McKenna next summer.Desnoyers, please and thank you, than McKenna (not a C) next year.
We are not "one Evans" away from being good.
