Honestly if that's the ask, I'm sure Hughes is ready to sign but is bluffing left and right to get it down to 4 years.
? is...... can the habs find a centre for 3.5/4 mill to replace himI'd trim that number and give him more term. $3.5-$3.75 for 6 or 7 years.
Players like Evans don't hurt you, especially when the cap is going up as much as it is.
Beck and Kapanen both showing they’re very capable. Having Evans is a luxury of having a fully developed center already here. Plenty of bottom 6 centres to pick from IMO. Not giving Evans the moon even if some desperate GM might for a one off career year with an insane shooting percentage.? is...... can the habs find a centre for 3.5/4 mill to replace him
or
is Beck ready to go to take on 4th line centre at lower cost
Who is this guy?"Mailloux will be traded during the summer for a top-6 forward. That's what we're trying to do. [...] Mailloux attracts a lot of scouts. I wouldn't be surprised if we call Mailloux back and give him games and there are a lot of scouts on the bridge between now and the end of the season."

Disagree - with the cap going way up, you're far more likely to regret term vs AAV.Evans at 4M X 4 would be like signing Armia with a premium because Evans is a C. It could potentially be as much of an overpaid contract as armies contract was. During the early years of a rebuild, that's fine, but at the end of a rebuild, not so much.
I'd rather go 3.5M X 5, than 4M X 4. Cheaper per season is easier to move if you have players outperforming Evans as his contract wears on.
A guy who wrote opinion piece based other people opinions (and his own) for danslescoulisses.com.Who is this guy?
What’s there to fear exactly? Getting mid rounders for Dvorak, Savard etc is going to have negligible value to this team vs 53% of roster going through the grind of high intensity March / April games - even if they don’t capture a wildcard spot
Pending UFAs should simply be viewed as deadline acquisitions - Habs have so many picks who gives a f*ck about adding more 3/4/5th rounders
Dreger has no Habs connections, he’s only there because of the TSN link
Well he’s a French rapper (*Ironik), who just happens to be one of the main guys behind Dans Les Coulisses.Who is this guy?
This makes no sense... why wait for the summer?"Mailloux will be traded during the summer for a top-6 forward. That's what we're trying to do. [...] Mailloux attracts a lot of scouts. A team in the mix/ going for it might trade a player that has played well and is due for a raise, but thar team can't/doesn't want to do it.This makes no sense... why wait for the summer?
His options are like many postersThis makes no sense... why wait for the summer?
I think Silayev is a top 6 defenseman but has 4-5 more years of development. He’s a projected to be a stay home like Johnathan Kovalcevic so don’t think he’s that highly. Also New Jersey has some other very good defensemen coming Hughes, Nemec, Casey to add with Hamilton, Pesce, Dillon, Kova, Steiger.
Also Evans would need to agree on extension. Jersey has been looking for a 3rd line center for a very long time. Evans fits the style of play for sure. I wouldn’t be surprised.
If we are going to burn a $14m slot on a proven vet wing - then Rants is the only choice.Hypothetical
The habs are getting Rantanen, or Marner.
same contract at 14 x 7 let's say.
Which one are you choosing and why ?
In real life the habs get neither and they sign Dominik Kubalik and bring him back to the NHL.
Ok not that bad, but theres low belief to land either, but go have fun.
If we're trading Dach, it's for CozensMaybe they’ll actually trade Dach
There 4 potential 2Cs we can target each with pros and cons:The top trade target for me this offseason would be an established 2nd line C who can play a 200 foot game. Someone like Kadri would be ideal, but his age and contract are a concern. I worry about playing Demidov with some mix of Dach, Newhook, and Laine. Maybe its worth trying out for a season to see if something clicks but I just don't like the makeup of our 2nd line.
Regarding Evans, given that he is having a career year ahead of becoming a UFA and we have Beck and Kapanen on the way, I think now is the time to cash out and trade him.
I'd actually consider re-signing Dvorak on a short term deal (something like 2 years, $2.5-3M AAV). Here are my reasons:
- Assuming all our UFAs leave, a priority this offseason will be a vet LHC who can take draws, so if we don't re-sign him, we'll have to replace him somehow.
- He won't fetch anything in a trade given his current cap hit and his potential new deal will be much less than Evans is asking.
- Seems like he's a well liked guy in the locker room (i.e. already proven to fit with the culture).
The other option would be to replace Dvorak by moving Newhook to C full time. That would also open up a LW spot for Demidov, but again, I really don't like the makeup of a Demidov-Dach-Laine line.
