Colton Parayko is the man we need. I’ve been banging this drum for awhile, but he’d be the perfect partner for Hutson. He has great skating, size and leadership skills. His cap hit is ridiculously cheap for what he brings, so it would take an overpayment but I think he’s more than worth it for this club to take the next step towards being a playoff contender.
Working on the assumption that the Habs are trading Evans and Armia at the deadline, and the return is a 1st round pick, I would offer Saint Louis:
To Saint Louis:
Mike Matheson
Logan Mailloux
1st round pick acquired from Evans/Armia deal
OR
1st round pick acquired from Calgary
2nd round pick acquired from Pittsburgh
Michael Pezzetta
To Montreal:
Colton Parayko
Alexey Toropchenko
Habs give up a top defenseman, a high end right hand shot prospect, a 1st and a 2nd and a physical fourth liner for a top pair right shot defenseman and a Russian bottom six player with size and skill that can also be a mentor for Demidov.
Sign a center in the UFA market - as always I’m lobbying for Sam Bennett, or a veteran like Granlund, and you’ve got a really nicely balanced group, who shouldn’t have any excuse about making the playoffs.
Lineup looks like:
Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Demidov - Bennett - Laine
Heineman - Dach - Anderson
Toropchenko - Beck - Newhook
Gallagher
Hutson - Parayko
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj - Reinbacher/Struble
That’s a team with high end talent, and the ability to play the game anyway you want. Lots of size and toughness throughout the lineup, and a good mix of young guys and veterans with skill.
