That's like four 1st rounders for Nemec! Mailloux, Mesar, the first we could get for Evans and the first we should get for the salary dump!
Exactly. Far too much value and yet still too soft of an offer.

Aside from making the values work, I’m not sure Nemec is the guy to target.

The secret is that the very best players show huge gains in performance and production year on year from the moment they enter the NHL. Is Nemec deprived of the opportunity to show this?

I'm thinking some fans are going to be disappointed with our TDL when nothing earth shattering happens.
Hughes will be only hurting and making things harder for himself if he doesn’t load up on more currency.

Getting a 2C to fix his Dach blunder is simple though not easy and won’t come cheap… and replacing the value he burned with Newhook should be straightforward if he sells UFAs at the deadline this year.

He had the chance to sell Anderson three years ago, and Savard last year — for right or wrong reasons he didn’t do it. Now that we know we need to optimise the lineup and have clear chairs/roles to fill, he can make these moves and make up for not making them earlier.

Savard, Anderson, and other « good in the room » players are not going to be a part of the Habs team that wins a playoff round. To get from today to then, Hughes has to speed up the churn.

Anyone who watched Bennett play for Team Canada today will understand why I want him here in Montreal. Will do absolutely anything to win for his team. Fight, score, play dirty, whatever it takes. We need a guy like this desperately.

3 shots, 4 hits, a scrap with Brady Tkachuk, in less than 8 minutes of ice time. He played a heavy game.

As I’ve mentioned several times. Bennett and Colton Parayko would be my two biggest targets as the GM in the off season.

Trade Evans and Armia at the deadline for a first rounder.

Move Mike Matheson out, potentially as a piece in the deal for Parayko.

Trade for Parayko, overpay (and you’ll have to), and sign Bennett to a deal, and we are in business as serious contenders.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Demidov - Bennett - Laine
Heineman - Beck - Dach
Gallagher - Newhook - Anderson

Hutson - Parayko
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj - Reinbacher

Montembeault
Dobes

That’s a talented and heavy team.

Interesting.

If they send Evans and Armia somewhere in a package, it'll be to a contender.
I doubt that a contender gives up a player that can help them now in such a trade.
So that leaves a big name prospect as a possibility.

Nemec?
You can argue he'd help the Habs now.

I'm guessing they'd try to add Mailloux to that and be willing to take back cap dumps.
But maybe if they add Heineman instead and send the whole line, that would get it done.
Friedman never mentioned who they asked about. Opposing GM told him that much. Friedman said information coming out of Montreal is sealed up tight as a drum. It was in his Feb. 10th podcast.

Thanks. I went and listened to it. The part where they talk about Evans and Armia at least.

Friedman thinks that the price for Evans is a 2nd. Called it a big price...lol. Said Armia is also getting attention but not as much.
Also said that the Habs are looking to make hockey trades, not just selling their UFAs, which is something we've heard before.
He didn't say the Habs wanted to make a hockey trade using Evans and Armia, like you mentioned before. I think those are 2 different things.

Another interesting thing he said is Hugues is setting his price for players and he's sticking to it.
If the price is not met then he just keeps his player. Gave Savard at last year's deadline as an example.
That way he doesn't get the reputation of someone who just buckles if someone waits him out.
I think it's a good strategy.

I didn't catch the part where he says there's no information coming out of MTL.

B-b-b-but people here said Evans was going to get a 1st and B prospect...

There's no way Bennett is getting $9m.
Will be interesting to watch the UFA landscape this summer - Bennett is a 40-45 pts two way C, but the cap is going to skyrocket

FWIW, $9M signing this summer would be equivalent to present day $5M-$6M contract ex Josh Anderson. Food for thought …

Marco mentioned the Armia and Evans combo.

That was Arpon Basu’s suggestion as a way to maximize return - giving a contender seeking to upgrade PK a combo for immediate improvement

As usual D’Amico regurgitates someone else’s ideas as his own

Or a team battling to get into the playoffs. Detroit is 32nd on pk. Islanders 31st. CBJ 26th. Bruins 25th. Ottawa 20th.

Contenders like Oilers are 23rd, Vegas 21st, Panthers 17th, Avs 16th.

Savard probably still has some value just for his pk work.

Mailloux and Mesar are not 1st round value. Mesar is worse then Beck and Hutson who are both 2nd round picks. Evans value should be two 2nd round picks. The salary dump won't return that much at the deadline when most of the salary is paid, retained salary will return a 4th at most.

I agree, you need to see the contracts as % and not actual $. But I have a feeling that he's the kind of player that will not age well and you won't get the value back for his contract. He will get paid for his past and not his future self.
